Section 1: Introduction
Thank you for purchasing BounceBack Ultimate software, truly the Ultimate in backup
software.
BounceBack Ultimate is software designed to backup the entire contents of your PC to a
USB backup device called the Instant PC Recovery Drive. This backup will include all of your
data files, the operating system, and anything else required by Windows to start your system. If
the hard drive in your PC fails at any time after BounceBack is installed, you will be able to start
your system directly off the connected USB backup device. All of your programs and data
will work the same from the backup drive and allow you to continue using your system. Once a
replacement hard drive is installed in your system, BounceBack Ultimate will make it easy to
restore the system from the Recovery Drive back to the newly installed hard drive in the PC.
If your system is a desktop PC, or a laptop that remains on your desk during the day, then
BounceBack will assume that your USB backup device is always connected and will
continuously update the backup with all the files that change on your system. If you are
constantly on the go and can’t always have your backup device connected, then the backup
process will automatically launch each time you connect the device. It is HIGHLY
recommended that you connect the backup drive at least once a day to keep the
important documents on your system backed up.

1-1: BounceBack Software Overview
BounceBack software has many features that can be tailored to individual user needs. Here is
a brief overview of these features.
BounceBack Features
Initial Backup - Your entire system drive (data only) can be automatically backed up or
just the data you select, (My Documents).
Backup Sets - The Settings feature allows you to create and modify Backup Sets. Each
Backup Set allows you to specify a unique set of backup characteristics such as data
selection, scheduling, and power down.
Scheduling - Backups may be automated by scheduling them. Schedules can be specified
by time and date on a weekly or monthly basis.
Power Down - Your computer can be set to Power Down on completion of a backup.
Backup - Once you have created one or more Backup Sets, the Backup Feature allows
you to select and run a Backup Set at any time.
QuickRestore - This feature restores files, reports file status between the backup device
and computer. Files can be restored to their original location or redirected to another
location.
Native File Format - Backups are in ‘native file format.’ This means that backed up data
is always available, there is no special software needed to view files or data, and files can
be restored in seconds by drag and drop or by using QuickRestore.
Internal Backup - Supports the use of internal hard drives as backup devices.
Data Management - When files are no longer needed on the backup hard drive they can
be reviewed and purged from the backup device.
Continuous Data Protection – This mode of operation continuously monitors the
computers system drive. At fixed intervals the changed files are copied to the backup.
AutoLaunch - Any time you connect an external designated backup device to your
computer, this feature scans your system disk for new or modified files and automatically
backs them up to the backup device.
Throttling – Used with Continuous Data Protection, throttling monitors computer activity
to only initiate backups when computer resources are available so that you can work
without interruption.

Not Available in BounceBack Express
Disaster Recovery – Full System Backups in BounceBack Ultimate make the backup
hard drive a spare System drive from which Windows can be started. This hard drive may
be swapped with the failed system drive or connected via the USB or eSATA or SATA ports
for recovery.
Instant PC Recovery Mode (BounceBack Ultimate Only) – Starts Windows using
spare System drive. Connect the spare System hard drive, created by BounceBack
Ultimate Full System Backup, to a USB 2.0 port, set the computer to start from an
external USB port and Windows will start from the backup drive, giving access to all data,
programs and configurations for emergency use and to restore the system hard drive.
Versioned - This backup type, designed for data only, keeps multiple copies of changed
files, from backup to backup. Recovering files from a Versioned Backup Set is by Date and
T0ime.
Synchronized - This backup type is intended for data only and verifies that files in
selected folder(s) are always current between the computer(s) and the backup device.
Security (BounceBack Pro Only) - This feature allows you to password protect your
external backup device for additional data security.
Encryption (BounceBack Ultimate Only) - This backup option encrypts the data files in
a backup set, protecting the data files from being accessed by an unauthorized user.
BounceBack Ultimate software and the correct decryption key are needed to restore files
from an encrypted data set. Without the correct decryption key, encrypted files cannot be
restored.
