Safety instructions
• Installation must be done by qualied installers, and conform to all local codes.
• It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that the mounting methods are safe and adequate for the
location.
• Use only stainless steel (SS) hardware to fasten the mount to an outdoor surface.
• All servicing must be performed by qualied service personnel. Procedures in this manual do not
require entry into the housing of the camera system. The unit contains potential high voltage. It also
contains sensitive devices that can be damaged by static discharge. To reduce the risk of electric
shock and damage to the unit by static discharge do not perform any servicing other than described
in these instructions. If the unit is defective, please contact the Customer Service Department for
technical assistance.
• It is the sole responsibility of the installer to provide proper installation in compliance with all local
codes and regulations.
Grounding
• To provide protection against electrical surges induced by lightning, static charges, or any other
cause, the camera and cabling system must be properly grounded to earth. For installation on a
building, the camera must be bonded (that is, provided with a low impedance connection) to the
building’s structural earth ground system. For installation on a metal pole with a proper ground
system at the base, the camera must be bonded to the pole. For installation on a non-grounded or
insulated support, the camera must be grounded with an adequate ground strap or wire between
the camera and a nearby ground system, or to a ground system installed at the base of the sup-
port. Failure to adequately ground the camera may lead to failure of the camera. This applies to
low voltage (i.e. PoE cameras) as well as to 115 Vac cameras. Failures due to surges are not
covered by the warranty, as they are not due to defects in material or workmanship, and it is
the installer’s responsibility to meet these grounding requirements.
• All system cables must be shielded, and the shield(s) must be bonded to earth ground.
• The grounding stud on the camera’s rear panel (see p6) must be connected to earth ground using
minimum 16 AWG wire and bonded to earth ground as close to the camera as possible.
WARNING:
PoE (Power over Ethernet) injectors used with this camera system may operate from 100-240 Vac.
These voltages are dangerous. Use extreme care working with equipment connected to these voltages.
WARNING:
Do not remove camera from housing. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
CAUTION:
In order to avoid deterioration of the color lter of the CCD and potential discoloration of the image
avoid pointing the camera system directly toward the sun or other bright source.
WARNING:
Voltages that present a shock hazard may exist on Power over Ethernet circuits. Use caution to avoid
direct contact with exposed, bare Ethernet circuit conductors or connector contacts.

1.0 Introduction
The 3930HD series camera system is a digital high denition
day/night zoom lens camera. The H.264 video standard,
which provides sharper image quality at lower bit rates than
previous standards, is used for video compression, along with
The motion JPEG (M-JPEG) standard.
The 3930HD series camera system is IP (Internet Protocol)
based with a full function built-in web server. Operator func-
tions, such as zoom, are controlled from the standard Internet
browser window. Administrative features, such as conguring
networking settings and assigning camera ID labels, can be
controlled from the same window as well. The 3930HD series
camera system can be programmed with ID labels for display
on an operator monitor. Camera location, presets, and sector
zones can be described with labels of up to 24 characters.
The camera system has built-in Power over Ethernet (PoE) in accordance with the IEEE 802.3at PoE stan-
dard. Power can come from a power supply within a PoE-enabled networking device such as an Ethernet
switch or from a midspan injector. Please refer to Section 2.1 for additional information.
The camera system has programmable input/output lines. The lines can be used for alarms or other user
dened controls.
The 3930HD camera system complies with NEMA TS 2 standards for temperature, shock, and vibration
specications. For environmental protection the camera complies with the IP67 standard. An optional sun-
shield and wiper are available to protect the camera system in inclement weather.

2.0 Installation
This chapter covers the general installation and cable requirements of the 3930HD series.
Before starting installation:
• Choose the installation mounting method. See Chapter 3.
• Verify that the system cable can be routed to the location of the mounting assembly
See Section 3.5 for details on the installation procedure for recommended mounts.
2.1 Power over Ethernet (PoE)
The 3930HD camera system is compliant with the IEEE 802.3at standard. Power to the camera system is
supplied through the network cabling. Two types of PoE implementations are specied by the standard:
• Endspan PoE - power is applied directly by the switch to the camera system. This method requires
the deployment of a PoE-enabled switch.
• Midspan PoE - power is supplied by an injector placed between an existing non-PoE switch and
the camera system.
PoE injectors can be ordered from CohuHD. PoE injector is supplied with the HD15 option. Please refer to
the CohuHD webpage in the 3930HD series specications section for ordering information. The PoE injector
selected for use with 3930HD must meet the following requirement:
• Be compatible with the IEEE 802.3at standard. For information on PoE injectors, refer to the website:
www.ieee.li/pdf/viewgraphs/introduction_to_poe_ieee802.3af_802.3at.pdf.
Figures 1 and 2 show interconnection diagrams for 3930HD:
• Figure 1 shows a setup of the camera system with PoE-enabled switch.
• Figure 2 shows a setup of the camera system using the PoE injector with non-PoE switch.
These diagrams represent typical installations. Each installation site will have its own unique requirements.

3.5 Installation Procedure
Provisions must be made for routing the system cable up to the camera system location:
• Pole mounting: if the cable routes up through the pole, support the cable inside the pole to strain
relieve the camera connector.
• Pedestal mounting: route the cable down into the pedestal. The cable must be secured by a strain
relief within the pedestal and must not be allowed to hang free through the pedestal.
• Allow approximately 4-5” clearance behind the camera system for the mating cable.
The sequence of installation can vary from site to site:
• Verify that the system cable is accessible for connection to the camera system rear plate connector
at the mounting location.
• If installing the camera system to the pedestal mount, use the mount as a template, mark and drill
holes in the mounting surface.
• Pull the system cable through the arm of the mount and out.
• Fasten the pole-mount bracket to the pole with the stainless steel straps (supplied) or attach the
pedestal mount with four 1/4-20 fasteners (not supplied) of appropriate length to the on-site mount.
• Position the camera system on the mount bracket and secure it with the 1/4-20 bolts (supplied).
• Loosen the bolts on the adjustable swivel head and adjust the pan rotation and tilt angle to the
desired position. Retighten the bolts and lock the mount into place.
• Connect the system cable to the camera rear plate.
• Ground the camera:
• Connect the grounding stud on the camera’s rear panel to earth ground using mini-
mum 16 AWG wire and bonded to earth ground as close to the camera as possible. A
star washer must be on either side of the grounding lug of the grounding cable when
attached to the rear plate. Refasten the nut securely. Recommended torque:12 in-lb.
• Refer to Section 4 to set up and check out the camera system.
