AIR CONTROL SYSTEM CALIBRATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE
DIRECT DRIVE TECHNOLOGY™ SOFTWARE
1. Connect the air control system hoses to the bed, making certain that there is no weight on the bed other than sheets, pillows and comforters.
MAKE SURE THE AIR HOSES AIR STRAIGHT WITH NO KINKS OR BENDS.
2. Connect both hand controls to the air control system.
3. Plug the power cord into the air control system and then plug the cord into the wall outlet. A clicking noise will occur inside the air control system.
4. The number “4” will display, then “88” will display on both of the remote controls and then the display on the hand controls will go dark.
5. Pick up one of the hand controls (either one will work). Press and hold down the Memory button until the “MEM” on the display begins ashing.
6. While continuing to press down the Memory button, push down both the Up and Down arrows so that you are pressing down all three buttons at the
same time.
7. Stop pressing only the Memory button.
8. Then stop pressing the Up and Down arrow buttons.
9. The hand controls will display the number “4“ and then will display the “[ ]”symbol and then the calibration routine will begin.
10. The air control system will now automatically calibrate itself to your mattress. The routine will take approximately 3 to 4 minutes and
involves several automated air control system and dump cycles which you will hear. You do not need to do anything while the calibration routine is
running.
11. The calibration routine will run for both sides of the mattress even though you started the routine using one of the hand controls.
12. When the calibration routine is nished , both hand controls will display a number that is the actual pressure in that chamber and if no command is
entered into the remote the display will go dark after 30 seconds. Your system is now calibrated to your bed and ready for you to enjoy.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU DO NOT PLACE ANY WEIGHT ON THE MATTRESS DURING THE CALIBRATION ROUTINE!
*** An air control system which has been calibrated for your mattress type and size will assure the most accurate performance. The calibration routine can
be rerun at any time by repeating the steps above. It is NOT necessary to recalibrate your pump if it is unplugged ***
EASY STEPS TO COMFORT
1. Stand beside your bed and inate it to full (press “FULL”button).
2. Lie on your bed in your normal sleeping position and adjust the pressure up or down until it feels good to you.
3. Sleep on your bed for a minimum of seven days (or longer) without changing pressure settings.
4. After seven days you may adjust the pressure up or down as needed. Again, commit to sleeping at this pressure for seven additional days.
5. Repeat step #4 if needed. By this time you should be at your optimum pressure setting.
FAQ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
}CAN ONE HAND CONTROL BE USED TO CONTROL BOTH SIDES OF THE BED?
No, each side has its own hand control.
}CAN BOTH SIDES OF THE BED BE ADJUSTED AT THE SAME TIME?
No, the system can only execute one command at a time. If both hand controls are used simultaneously, one hand control will ash, signaling that the
system is busy. When the rst command is nished, a new command may be sent.
}WILL THE BED GO FLAT IF THE SYSTEM IS UNPLUGGED?
No, the bed will continue to hold air if it is not connected to electricity. When electricity is restored, the valves will open and some of the air will be lost.
}WHY IS THE BED AT MAXIMUM PRESSURE WHEN I LAY ON IT, BUT SEEM LESS FULL WHEN I STAND UP?
The pressure is affected by the amount of weight applied to the bed. If you are sitting or laying on the bed while it is inating, the added pressure caused by
your weight will cause the system to stop pumping sooner than if there were no weight on the bed. To obtain maximum ination, the bed should be lled
to 99 before any weight is put on the bed.
}WHY DIDN’T THE AIR CONTROL SYSTEM RESPOND WHEN A COMMAND WAS SENT?
There could be several reasons. First, the desired pressure may already exist. If so, the air control system would sense that and remain dormant. Second, the
air control system may have responded and been too silent to hear, or the change too slight to be felt. There are 89 separate settings for each side of the bed
and slight changes in the target number are too subtle to feel.
}WHAT IS THE CLICKING NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE SYSTEM?
This sound may be heard when the air control system is deating. It is normal and means the deation mechanism is working properly.
}WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THE HAND CONTROL DISPLAY DOESN’T LIGHT, IS “FROZEN”, OR WON’T CONTROL THE
AIR CONTROL SYSTEM?
Check the connection of the hand control cable into the side of the air control system; unplug it, wait 15 seconds then plug it in again. If that doesn’t resolve
the problem, unplug both pendants and then the unit from the wall, wait 2 minutes, reconnect both hand controls to the air control system, and nally the
air control system to the wall.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
You’ll probably never have a moments trouble with your Comfortaire® bed, but just in case, here are a few easy steps to take if your
bed is not working properly.
#1 AFTER SETUP
WHAT TO LOOK FOR…
A. Look for kinks in the air hose, air chamber should be positioned with hoses face down.
B. Make sure the hoses are attached properly.
}Seat and secure the air hoses completely. Slide the air hoses all the way onto the in-line hose connector.
C. PLUG IT IN! Make sure the outlet works.
D. Check hand controls, make sure the power cord is completely plugged into the air control system.
#2 IF THIS HAPPENS, DO THIS...
A. LEAK?
1. Find your plugs – If you can’t nd them, “AA” battery is a good substitute.
2. Pump up the side that leaks and adjust it to a comfortable sleep setting.
3. Crimp the hose – bend it in half to prevent air from escaping.
4. Disconnect the hose from hose connector.
5. Plug the end of the hose with the plugs or “AA” battery – this will isolate the
air inside the chamber.
6. Sleep on the bed with the hose plugged o.
}If the bed still leaks, the problem is the air chamber.
}If the bed holds air, the problem is the air control system.
Either way, call Comfortaire at 1-800-759-0594.(We will need the model and serial number of your air control system
OR the number on the chamber located where the hose connects inside of the mattress at the head)
7. When you are ready to reattach hose to the air control system, snip o 1” of the hose to provide a fresh end for the
tting
B. AIR CONTROL SYSTEM WILL NOT OPERATE...
1. Plug it in. Make sure the outlet works.
2. Check for tight connections at the hand control connections and power cord at the air control system.
C. AIR CONTROL SYSTEM WORKS BUT THE PRESSURE DOES NOT CHANGE...
1. Unzip mattress cover and look for a crimp where the hose attaches to the chamber.
2. If the problem persists, disconnect the hose from the in-line hose connector. (See step 4 under “Leak”) – air should
expel from the hose (hold hose up to your face to feel for a breeze). If this doesn’t happen, look for visible obstructions.
While the hose is disconnected, use the hand control to activate the ination for that side of the bed – check to see if
air is blowing from the air control system. To deactivate the air control system, place your nger over the end of the
hose to create pressure or simply unplug the power source.
3. After you have determined the problem call Comfortaire at 1-800-759-0594 for further assistance.
**WARNING! DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE AIR CONTROL SYSTEM.
INTERNAL COMPONENTS CAN BE DAMAGED AND WARRANTY WILL BE VOIDED.**
D. SOILED COVER?
Steam clean only. Do not dry clean the mattress cover.
Steam clean – allow it time to AIR dry – put it back on the bed. NEVER put the cover in the dryer.
E. COVER WEAR?
Over time, impressions will occur in the cover of the mattress. This is normal and will not aect your level of comfort. Only
the quilting of the cover is aected. The air support components will last a lifetime.
