FILMREMINDERCLIP
TheFilmReminderClip(33)accommodates
theendpanelofa 35mmfilmcassettepackage

filmloadedinthecamera.Theendpanel
shouldbechangedeachtimera different
film-typeisused.

SETTINGTHEFILMSPEED
Eachtypeoffilm— colororblack& white—
hasitsownsensitivitytolight.Thissensitivity
isassigneda numericalvaluedescribedasan
ASArating(U.S.A.Standard)ora DINrating
(Europeandmostothercountries).Inmost
cases,bothASAandDINratingsareimprinted
onthefilmpackage,aswellasthedatasheet
packedwiththefilmandthefilmcassette
itself.
Thehigherthefilmspeedrating,themore
sensitivethefilmistolightthatis,lesslightis
requiredfora properexposure.Thefilmspeed,
therefore,isanimportantelementinensuring
thatthethrough-the-lensmeteringsystemsof
yourcameradeterminethecorrectshutter
speed/f-stopcombinationsfora givenlighting
situation.
Eachtimea filmwitha newfilmspeedratingis
loadedinthecamera,thefilmspeedMUSTbe
setintheFilmSpeedWindow(8)toassure
accuratelyexposedphotographs.
Tosetthefilmspeed:
1.LiftupontheoutercollaroftheShutter
SpeedDial(10)androtateituntiltheASA
numberorrepresentativeindexmarkis
oppositethegreenindexline.
2.Releasethecollartolockthefilmspeed
settinginthecamera.
ThefilmspeedrangeisfromASA25-3200. 5

SETTINGTHESHUTTERSPEED
Theshuttercontrolsthelengthoftimelightis
allowedtostrikethefilm.Thespeedatwhich
theshutteropensandclosesismeasuredin
fractionsofa secondthatcorrespondtothe
numbersontheShutterSpeedDial(10).For
example1000is1/1000second,125is1/125
second,2 is1/2second,andsoon.Thenumber
"1"ontheDialrepresentsonefullsecondof
exposure.Whensetto"B"(Bulb)theshutter
remainsopenaslongastheShutterRelease
Buttonisdepressed.Thissettingisforusein
picturesofnightscenesandwhereavailable
lightexposuresarebeyondtheexposureread-
ingcapabilitiesofyourcamera.
Tosettheshutterspeed,rotatetheDialuntil
thenumberrepresentingthespeedyoudesireis
oppositetheindexmark.Generallyspeaking,
whenoutdoorsinbrightorhazysunlight,
1/125secondissuitableformostphotographs.
Whenindoorsina well-litroom,1/60second
shouldbesufficienttorecordyoursubject,
dependinguponthefilmyouareusing.Final
determinationofa shutterspeedsettingshould
bemadebasedontheaction-stoppingneedsfor
yourpicture,i.e.themoreaction,thefasterthe
shutterspeedrequired.
FOCUSINGTHELENS
Toassurethesharpestpossiblephotographs,
yourCOSINACSRhasa horizontalsplit-image,
surroundedwitha micro-prism,focusingspotin
theviewfinderwhichexaggeratesin-focusand
out-focusimages.
Asyoulookthroughtheviewfinder,turnthe
LENSFOCUSINGRING(37)untilthesplit-off
imagebecomesasonecompleteimageinthe
viewfinder.Whenthisoccurs,theimagehas
beenbroughtintofocus.

YourCosinaCSRhasa built-inLEDsystem,
whichmeasuresthelightcomingthroughthe
lensandenablesyoutosettheproperexposure
fora givenlightingcondition.
Totakeanexposurereading:
1.WindingoftheFilmAdvancelever(3).
2.Switchthemeteronbygentlypressingthe
shutterspeedbuttonhalf-waydown.The
lenswillstopdowntotheF-stoppre-seton
theapertureRing.
3.WhenoneoftheLEDslocatedatupperside
oftheviewfinderlights,themetercircuitis
poweredbybatteries.
4.Whentheredwarninglight(+)lightsitis
meaningofOver-exposure.Inthiscasethe
diaphragmringofthetakinglensshouldbe
turnedtothedirectionofthearroworthe
shutterspeeddialshouldbeturnedtoa
higherspeeduntilthegreenoptimumlamp
lights.
5.Whentheredwarninglamp(-)lights,itis
meaningofUnder-exposure.Inthiscasethe
diaphragmringofthetakinglensshouldbe
turnedtothedirectionthatthearrow
indicatesortheshutterspeeddialshouldbe
turnedtotheoppositedirectionuntilthe
greenoptimumlamplights.
6.Theproperexposureoffilmisobtained
wheneverthegreenoptimumlamplights.The
rangethatthegreenoptimumlightlightsis
0.3EV.
SelectingtheMeteringSystem
YourCosinaCamerahastwoseparatethrough-
the-lensmeteringsystems— onefor"Spot"
readingsandonefor"Average"readings— to
assurehighlyaccurateexposuremeasurement
eveninthemostdifficultlightingconditions.
"AVERAGE"Readings
WhentheMeterSelectorSwitchissetto"A,"
themeterreadstheamountoflightfallingon
theentirepictureareaasseenthroughthe
cameraviewfinder.
TheAveragemeteringsystemshouldbeused
whenallelementsofthescenetobephoto-
graphedareevenlyilluminatedandwhere
strongback-orside-lightingisnotpresent.

"SPOT"Readings
WhentheMeterSelectorSwitchissettothe
green"S,"themeterreadsapproximately10%
ofthesceneyouarephotographing.Thecross
visibleunderneaththemicroprisminviewfinder
representsthepictureareacoveredbytheSpot
meteringsystem.
TheSpotmeteringsystemisextremelyvaluable
whenthesubjectbeingphotographedismuch
lighterordarkerthanthesurroundingarea,as
ina portraitagainsta brightsky.
Additionally,whentheprincipleamountof
lightisstrikingthesubjectfrombehind(back-
lighting)orfromtheside(side-lighting),using
theSpotMeterassuresthata properexposureis
madeofthatportionofthesubjectmost
importanttoyou.
APERTURERELEASEBUTTON
WhentheShutterReleaseButton(5)ispressed
half-waydown,theLEDmeteringsystemis
activatedandthelensstopsdowntothef-stop
pre-setonthelensApertureRing(12).Ifyou
wishtore-composeyourphotographorcheck
thefocuspriortotakingthepicture,pressthe
ApertureReleaseButton(18).Thisopensthe
lenstoitsmaximumf-stopallowingyouto
viewyoursubjectthrougha bright,clear
viewfinder.

DEPTHOFFIELD
Whenyoufocusona specificsubject,anareain
frontofandbehindthatsubjectwillappear
acceptablysharpinyourpicture.Thisarea,or
zone,ofacceptablesharpnessisDEPTHOF
FIELD.
Depthoffieldisdeterminedbythef-stopyou
selectandthedistancefromthesubjectin
focustothefilmplane.Asyougetcloserto
yoursubject,orasyouopenyourlens(e.g.
fromf16tof2.8),thedepthoffieldbecomes
shallower.Bystoppingyourlensdown(e.g.
fromf2.8tof16),thisdepthorzoneof
acceptablesharpnesscanbeincreased.
Anotherfactorindepthoffieldisthefocal
lengthofthelensbeingused.Asa rule,the
longerthefocallengthofa lenstheshallower
thezoneofacceptablesharpnessbecomes;the
shorterthefocallength,thegreaterthedepth
offield.Knowingthedepthoffieldlimitations
ofyourlenscanenhancethecreativityofyour
pictures.A deepzoneofacceptablesharpness
providedbyshorterfocallengthlensesisideal
for"snapshooting"whenthereisn'ttimeto
focusproperly,asinfastactionphotography.
Shallowdepthoffieldcanbeusedtothrow
distractingforegroundsandbackgroundsoutof
focustoaddseparationbetweena subjectand
itssurroundings.
TAKINGTHEPICTURE
Onceyouhavegotthegreendotlightedon,
checkthecompositionofyourpictureand
presstheShutterReleaseButtonallwaydown
givinga slow,steadypressureonittotake
photograph.
Advancethefilmforyournextshot.

USINGTHESELF-TIMER
YourCOSINACSRhasa built-inself-timer
whichdelaystheshutterreleaseapprox.10
seconds.Thisenablesyoutoincludeyourselfin
thepictureandisalsoofbenefitinclose-ups
andmacrophotographywherethecamera
movementmustbereducedtoa minimum.
Toactivatetheself-timer.
1.Movetheself-timerleverinthedirectionof
thearrowuntilitstops.
2.Presstheshutterreleasebuttontostartthe
selftimermoving.
Aredlightblinkstoindicatetheself-timer
working.
TAKINGFLASHPICTURES
CordlessElectronicFlash
Ifyouwillbeusinganelectronicflashunitwith
built-inhotshoecontact,theflashcanbe
attacheddirectlytotheHotShoe(1)atopthe
camerapentaprism.Thecameraandflashwill
thenbefullysynchronizedthroughthecon-
tactsintheshoewithanyshutterspeedupto
andincluding1/60second.NOTE:TheShutter
SpeedDialIndexfor1/60thsecondismarked
inredasa reminderforelectronicflash
synchronizationandiscolor-codedtothe"X"
markingontheHotShoeitself.

Toattachyourlens:
1.Holdthecamerasecurelyinthepalmof
yourlefthand.
2.Graspthelensfirmlyaroundthelensbarrel
andalignthelensthreadswiththecamera.
3.Turnthelensclockwiseuntilitisfirmly
seated.Ifthelensisdifficulttoscrewin,
removeitandinspectthethreadsfordirtor
otherforeignmatter.
Toremoveyourlens:
1.Holdthecameraasabove.
2.Graspthelensfirmlyaroundthelensbarrel
andturnitcounter-clockwiseaboutthree
fullturnsandliftitcarefullyawayfromthe
camerabody.
IMPORTANT:Donottouchthereflexmirror
inthecamerabodywhenattachingorremoving
alens.Dustparticlescanberemovedwitha
blowerorsoftcamel-hairbrush.
AUTO-MANUALSWITCH
Whenusingnonautomaticaccessories(bellows,
etc.),itissometimesrequiredthatyoudisen-
gagetheautomaticdiaphragmfeatureofyour
lens.MoststandardlensesforyourCosina
Cameraaswellasmostuniversalthreadmount
lensesprovideanAuto/ManualSwitch(35)for
thispurpose.
Todisengagetheautomaticfeature,movethe
Switchto"M"(Manual).Toengagetheauto-
maticdiaphragm,returntheSwitchtothe"A"
(Automatic)position.

Multi-exposure
Yourcameraisequippedwithmulti-exposure
system.Thisenablesyoutomaketrickyor
fantasticpictures.Twoormoreshotscanbe
exposedona singleframewhenthefollowing
procedureisrepeated.
1.Shootfirstscene.
2.TurnMULTI-EXPOSURELEVERtothe
directionofarrow.
3.Shootsecondscene.
NOTE:
1.Forthismulti-exposurethedarkerback-
groundofsubjectswillbemoreeffective.
Anexposure-compensationwillbeneeded
whenthebackgroundisbright.Incaseof
double-exposureone-step-under-exposure
fromthecorrectsettingshouldbegivento
eachshot.(Compensatewithshutterspeed
orF-number.)
2.Aslongasmulti-exposuresystemisoperat-
edthefilmcounterremainsatthesame
number.
REWINDINGTHEFILM
Whenyouhavefinishedtakingallyourpic-
tures,rewindthefilmbackintoitscassetteas
follows:
1.PresstheRewindReleaseButton(11)be-
sidethespeeddial.
2.LiftuptheFilmRewindCrank(23)and
turnitinthedirectionofthearrowuntil
youfeelthefilmtensionlessen.Thisindi-
catesthefilmhasbeencompletelyrewound
intothecassette.
3.Openthecamerabackbypullingupsharply
ontheRewindCrankandremovethe
exposedcassette.
NOTE:AVOIDDIRECTSUNLIGHT
WHENLOADINGORUNLOADING
YOURCAMERA.

waydown.
3.Then,immediately,themetercircuitispoweredandoneoftheLEDsintheviewfinderwilllight.
Atthesametime,themotorofadapterstartsrunning.Itrunsjustuntilthecenterpositioned
greenLEDlightsandstops.

4.WhenthegreenLEDlights,itmeansthattheexposureconditioniscorrect.Now,youcanpress
theshutterreleasebuttonallwaydown.
5.WheneitherorredLEDlightandthemotorkeepsrunning,youshouldrotatethe
diaphragmringandchooseanotherF stopuntilgreenLEDlights.
6.WhenredLEDlights,itmeansoverexposure,soyoushouldrotatethediaphragmringto
(right),inotherwords,tosmalleraperture.
7.WhenredLEDlights,itmeansunderexposure,soyoushouldrotatethediaphragmringto
(left),inotherwords,tobiggeraperture.
8.IfthegreenLEDdoesnotlightthoughyouhavealreadysettomaximumaperture,itisoutof
EErange.Itisthesamemean,ifthebothredLEDslightatthesametime.
