T ROTTLE LOCK--OUT
The THROTTLE LOCK--OUT must be
pressed before you an squeeze the
throttle trigger. This feature prevents you
from a identally squeezing the trigger.
C OKE/FAST IDLE LEVER
The hoke and fast idle are set by pull-
ing the CHOKE/FAST IDLE LEVER out to
the full extent for old starting or after
refueling. The hoke provides additional
fuel to the engine during old starting.
PRIMER BULB
The PRIMER BULB ir ulates fuel to the
arburetor to provide qui ker starting.
C AIN BRAKE
The CHAIN BRAKE is a devi e designed
to stop the hain if ki kba k o urs. The
hain brake a tivates automati ally in
the event of ki kba k. The hain brake
a tivates manually if the front hand
guard is pushed forward. The hain
brake is disengaged by pulling the front
hand guard ba k toward the front handle
as far as possible.
C AIN TENSION
It is normal for a new hain to stret h
during the first 15 minutes of operation.
You should he k your hain tension
ea h time before you start the hain
saw. See CHAIN TENSION under the
MAINTENANCE se tion.
WARNING: If the saw is oper-
ated with a loose hain, the hain
ould jump off the guide bar and result
in serious injury to the operator and/or
damage the hain making it unusable.
BEFORE STARTING ENGINE
WARNING: Muffler is very hot
during and after use. Do not tou h the
muffler or allow ombustible material
su h as dry grass or fuel to do so.
WARNING: Be sure to read the
fuel handling information in the safety
rules se tion of this manual before you
begin. If you do not understand the
fuel handling information do not at-
tempt to fuel your unit. Seek help from
someone that does understand the in-
formation or all the ustomer assis-
tan e help line at 1-800-235-5878.
GUIDE BAR AND C AIN OIL
The bar and hain require lubri ation.
The hain oiler provides ontinuous
lubri ation to the hain and guide bar.
Be sure to fill the bar oil tank when you
fill the fuel tank (Capa ity = 6.8 fl. oz.).
La k of oil will qui kly ruin the bar and
hain. Too little oil will ause overheat-
ing shown by smoke oming from the
hain and/or dis oloration of the bar.
For maximum guide bar and hain life,
we re ommend you use Craftsman
hain saw bar oil. If Craftsman bar oil
is not available, you may use a good
grade SAE 30 oil until you are able to
obtain Craftsman brand.
The oil output is automati ally metered
during operation. Your saw will use
approximately one tank of bar oil for
every tank of fuel mix. Always fill the
bar oil tank when you fill the fuel tank.
FUELING ENGINE
WARNING: Remove fuel ap
slowly when refueling.
IMPORTANT: This equipment is de-
signed to operate on unleaded gasoline
with a minimum 87 o tane (R+M/2
method), with ethanol blended up to
10% maximum by volume (E-10).
Before operation, gasoline must be
mixed with a good quality syntheti
2- y le air- ooled engine oil designed to
be mixed at a ratio of 50:1. Craftsman
brand syntheti oil is re ommended.
Mix gasoline and oil at a ratio of 50:1.
A 50:1 ratio is obtained by mixing
2.6 fluid oun es of oil with 1 gallon of
unleaded gasoline. DO NOT USE auto-
motive oil or marine oil. These oils will
ause engine damage. When mixing
fuel, follow instru tions printed on on-
tainer. On e oil is added to gasoline,
shake ontainer momentarily to assure
that the fuel is thoroughly mixed. Always
read and follow the safety rules relating
to fuel before fueling your unit. Pur hase
fuel in quantities that an be used within
30 days to assure fuel freshness.
CAUTION: Never use straight gasoline
in your unit. This will ause permanent
engine damage and void the limited
warranty. Do not use alternate fuels
su h as ethanol blends above 10% by
volume (E-15, E-85) or any methanol
blended fuel. Use of these fuels an
ause major engine performan e and
durability problems.
