after the first Espresso machine was invented in 1901.
However, it took nearly 50 years for the word “cappuccino”
to officially find its way into the English language. In Italian,
cappuccino literally means “little cap,” which aptly describes
the head of frothed milk that sits atop the drink’s espresso
base. Though a simple enough explanation, others believe the
drink was named after the monks of Capuchin, whose brown
hooded cowls and shaved heads closely resemble the ring of
crema and white foam that tops this iconic beverage.
