Safety Guidelines
Safety guidelines are general-to-specific safety rules that must be followed at all times. This manual is
written to help you understand safe operating procedures and problems that can be encountered by the
operator and other personnel when using this equipment. Read and save these instructions.
As owner or operator, you are responsible for understanding the requirements, hazards, and precautions
that exist and to inform others as required. Unqualified persons must stay out of the work area at all
times.
Alterations must not be made to the equipment. Alterations can produce dangerous situations resulting in
SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH.
This equipment must be installed in accordance with the current installation codes and applicable regula-
tions, which must be carefully followed in all cases. Authorities having jurisdiction must be consulted
before installations are made.
When necessary, you must consider the installation location relative to electrical, fuel and water utilities.
Personnel operating or working around equipment must read this manual. This manual must be delivered
with equipment to its owner. Failure to read this manual and its safety instructions is a misuse of the
equipment.

Follow Safety Instructions
• Carefully read all safety messages in this manual and safety
signs on your machine. Keep signs in good condition.
Replace missing or damaged safety signs. Be sure new
equipment components and repair parts include the current
safety signs. Replacement safety signs are available from
the manufacturer.
• Learn how to operate the machine and how to use controls
properly. Do not let anyone operate without instruction.
• If you do not understand any part of this manual or need
assistance, contact your dealer.

Maintain Equipment and Work Area
• Understand service procedures before doing work. Keep
area clean and dry.
• Never service equipment while it is operating. Keep hands,
feet, and clothing away from moving parts.
• Keep your equipment in proper working condition. Replace
worn or broken parts immediately.

Install and Operate Electrical Equipment Properly
• Electrical controls must be installed by a qualified electrician
and must meet the standards set by applicable local codes
(National Electrical Code for the US, Canadian Electric
Code, or EN60204 along with applicable European Direc-
tives for Europe).
• Lock-out power source before making adjustments, cleaning,
or maintaining equipment.
• Make sure all equipment is properly grounded.

Mounting the Weather Station Enclosure
What You Should Know
• Install the EDGE Weather Station in a corridor or a room dedicated to electronic controllers.
• The ideal ambient temperature is between 20 °C and 25 °C (68 °F - 77 °F). The temperature should
not go lower than 0 °C (32 °F) and should not exceed 40 °C (104 °F).
• Make sure there is a minimum of 6 inches around the unit for sufficient ventilation and that it is posi-
tioned for easy access for servicing.
• Fix the enclosures into the supporting structure behind the drywall. If this is not possible, create a
wood frame where the enclosure can be securely mounted.
• Make sure that the enclosure is located within the maximum recommended length of all the wires
and cables.
1. Position the Weather Station enclosure at an eye level height on the mounting structure.
2. Mount the enclosure using wood deck screws through the four corners of the enclosure.

Installing the Weather Station and Rain Sensors
The sensors for the Weather Station kit must be mounted to a building or structure to place it at above
and away from interference.
Before You Begin
These instructions cover the installation of the EDG-187 Weather Station that includes the hardware and
mounting kit EDG-184.
What You Should Know
The Weather Station sensor and Rain Sensors will need to be mounted above and away from any
obstacles that would interfere with communication. The maximum cable length for the Weather Station
Sensor and the Rain Sensor cable is 98 Ft., (30 m). Therefore, the EDGE Weather Station should be
mounted within 98 Ft. (30 m) of the sensor. The sensors must be mounted 5 Ft. (1.5 m) above the roof or
structure edge.
1. Determine the length of pipe needed for the weather station to be mounted 5 Ft. above the roof or
structure edge and also long enough to reach where the pipe will enter the building.
2. Cut a section of 1-1/2” schedule 80 PVC pipe (not included) to the length needed.
3. Cut a 6” length of 1-1/2” schedule 80 PVC pipe to pass through the hole into the building.
4. At a location that is convenient to run the electrical wires to the controllers, use a hole saw to drill a
2” hole into the outside wall of the building.
5. Install the Nipple (3) into the 1-1/2 inch Bushing (4).
Use Teflon Tape to seal the threads.
6. Install the Cable Swivel Connector (2) onto the Nipple (3).
Use Teflon Tape to seal the threads.

7. Install the Cable (2) to the Weather Sensor.
The cable rests inside a swivel connector, this will allow the cable to stay stationary as you twist the
connector onto the Weather Sensor.
8. Position the Weather Sensor (1) with the Alignment notch pointed toward true North. To do this,
loosen the Swivel Connector (2) and move the Weather Sensor until the notch is facing North, then
tighten the Swivel Connector (2).
IMPORTANT: Hand tighten only. Tighten or align the Weather Station by grasping the lower housing
below the reflector plate.

WARNING
If the Weather station is oriented incorrectly, the EDGE Main Controller will
provide the wrong information about the wind direction.
9. Install the Bushing (4) into the PVC Tee (5).
10.Install the ¾ inch Bushing (6) into the PVC Tee (5).
11.Install the Heyco Connector (7) into the ¾ inch Bushing (6).
12.Install the PVC Tee onto the end of a SCH 80 PVC Pipe (not supplied) using primer and PVC glue.
Pipe needs to be long enough to extend the Weather Sensor 5’ above the top of the building from
the location where it enters the building.

13.Install the Rain Sensor Mounting Bracket (9) right below the PVC Tee (5) using U-Bolt Clamps (10).

14.Install the Rain Sensor (11) to the Weather Station Mounting Bracket (9) using ¼” x ¾” bolts (12)
and nuts (13).

15.Route the Rain Sensor Cable through the Heyco Nut and down the pipe.

IMPORTANT: Use two wrenches to fully tighten the Heyco Nut to the cable.
16.Install the PVC Elbow (17) between the long and short SCH 80 PVC pipes (8), making sure the
wires are routed through the elbow and exit the small pipe.
Use primer and PVC glue on the ends of the pipe to secure the elbow.

17.Install the Building Mounting Brackets (14) to the SCH 80 PVC Pipe (8) using U-Bolt Clamps (10).
18.Install the Building Mounting Brackets (14) to the building using flat washers (15) and self-drilling
screws (16).
Caulk around the pipe where it enters the building on both the inside and outside of the building.

Power Source Connections
Before You Begin
• The recommended installation wire gauge is 16 AWG (1.29mm diameter or cross-sectional area of
1.30 mm2) for the power supply wires at a length of 300 meters (1000 feet). The minimum wire
gauge is 18 AWG (1.02 mm or cross-sectional area of 0.82 mm2).
• When tightening small terminal blocks, use a torque between 0.5 N*m (4.43lbf*in) and 0.6 N*m (5.2
lbf*in) to fasten a wire gauge from 16 AWG to 18 AWG (from a diameter of 1.29 mm or a cross-sec-
tional area of 1.30 mm2to a diameter of 1.02 mm or a cross-sectional area of 0.82mm2).
• Disconnect supply before servicing.
What You Should Know
1. Locate the Automation or Safety terminals on the EDGE Weather Station to connect.
2. Connect the wires (24V and GND) from the EDGE Weather Station to the network.
Consult the wiring diagrams to see the maximum cable distance according to the wire gauge.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to connect the same identifications together and to use the same network
from one side to the other
IMPORTANT: If redundancy supplies are not used, use the Automation bus.

Chapter 3: Basic Connections and Wiring
Connecting the EDGE Weather Station to Communication Network
The communication bus enables communication between the EDGE system and the EDGE Weather Sta-
tion (terminal A and terminal B on the Automation network or the Safety network). There are two commu-
nication networks available. One of them serves as a backup network (Safety network).
What You Should Know
• Disconnect supply before servicing.
• Make sure to connect same identifications together and use the same network from one side to the
other.
• The recommended installation wire gauge is 18 AWG (diameter of 1.02mm or cross sectional area
of 0.82mm2) for the communication wires at a length of 1200 meters (4000 feet). The cable must be
twisted pair and shielded.
• For the small terminal blocks used for inputs and low voltage outputs, use a tightening torque from
0.5N*m (4.43lbf*in) to 0.6 N*m (5.2lbf*in) to fasten a wire.
IMPORTANT: The communication network must be installed in a daisy chain topology. The order of the
wires is very important. At both ends of the network, the End-of-Line must be activated. If
the wiring can not be done in a single chain, you might need to deactivate the end-of-line
(EOL) resistor to improve communication. AP/Cumberland does not warranty the proper
operation if the topology network is not daisy chain.
WARNING
Installation must only be performed by qualified service personnel.
1. Locate the terminals Automation or Safety on the EDGE Weather Station you want to connect.
2. Connect the wires (A and B) from the EDGE Weather Station to the network.
3. Connect the GND wire from the EDGE Weather Station to the network.
Connecting the Wires for the Main Weather Sensor (110WX)
What You Should Know
• Disconnect supply before servicing.
• The maximum cable length allowed (including cable extensions) is 30 m (98 feet). The cable is
provided by the factory.
• For the small terminal blocks used for inputs and low voltage outputs, use a tightening torque from
0.5N*m (4.43lbf*in) to 0.6 N*m (5.2lbf*in) to fasten a wire.
WARNING
Installation must only be performed by qualified service personnel.
1. Connect the 110WX NMEA 2000 connector to the EDGE 110WX Weather Station.
2. Connect skinned wires at the EDGE Weather Station side according to the following table:
