Operating Instructions for the Accurate PPM 5.0 meter

Operating Manual for the Accurate PPM 5.0 Meter
1. Remove the protective electrode cap and at the top of the meter and push
the switch to the ON position.
2. If you are using this meter for the first time or the meter has not been
used for a long time you will need to calibrate it for accurate readings.
Skip to the calibration section then return to step 3.
3. Dip the meter’s electrode into a small sample of the solution to the
immersion level as shown. Stir gently to dislodge air bubbles, stop and
wait for two minutes for the temperature compensation display value to
stabilize. The display number is the PPM (parts per million) value of the
solution. Note: The meter is not waterproof. Never dip the meter into a
large body of solution as you may drop it in and ruin the meter. Test small
samples only. See pictures. For complete temperature compensation,
allow the meter’s display reading to stabilize for up to 2 minutes.
4. Immediately after finishing your test, dip or rinse the electrode in distilled
water. Stir gently. Then use tissue paper or a soft cloth to blot the excess
water from the meter’s body and the electrode’s two metal pins. Replace cap. Note: As
with all quality PPM meters, do not allow the solution that you are testing to dry on the
electrode’s metal pins. Also, blotting action must be carefully done in order not to
damage the metal pins.
5. When storing the PPM meter, switch the unit to the OFF position. Complete step 4. After
step 4, put the cap onto the PPM meter and store it in a cool place out of direct sunlight
and moisture. For extended storage time take the batteries out of the meter. Do not store
with the meter’s electrode submerged in water or solutions.
If the unit cannot be switched ON or the display fades replace all of the batteries with
new batteries. Use only one brand of batteries. Never mix battery brands.

Calibration of the Accurate PPM 5.0 Meter
This PPM meter has a 1-point calibration system for superior
accuracy. The Calibration Screw is located on the back of
the meter. Control Wizard Products recommends its brand of
1382 PPM calibration solution, as it is a high quality product.
1. First clean the meter’s electrode with a small brush or
scouring pad to remove salt deposits or oils and rinse
with tap water. Then turn the meter ON and place it into
clean distilled water. Gently stir and then remove the
meter from the water and blot the excess from the
meter’s body and electrode with a tissue.
2. Dip the meter’s electrode into a 1382 PPM calibration
buffer solution to the emersion level shown and wait two minutes. If the display does not
show 1382 PPM, adjust the calibration screw at the back of the meter to make it display
1382 PPM. Calibration is complete.
3. Rinse the electrode with distilled water and dry the meter’s electrode and body with a
tissue before taking your test.
Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble calibrating the meter or you are seeing incorrect readings, clean or
the meter’s electrodes well and test. If this doesn’t help, replace the batteries. Check battery
quantity and model number under specifications. For the complete temperature
compensation of the solution being tested, allow the display reading to stabilize for up to 2
minutes.
