elcome to the family of CYTEL cordless telephone users. This
CYTEL cordless telephone uses the latest technology to provide
you with a high-performance communication tool. This telephone

is part of a comprehensive line of state-of-the-art communications instruments
developed by CYTEL. Your telephone has been through rigorous testing, and
its quality is guaranteed by CYTEL.
When examining your new CYTEL cordless telephone, you will find an array
of special features including:
40 Channel Autoscan - Push a button on the HANDSET to find and lock on to
the clearest channel for any call.
Telephone Number Storage - Store up to 10 frequently called numbers.
Desk or Wall Mount - Use this equipment as a desk phone or as a wall phone.
Tone or Pulse Dialing - Use this phone for either tone or push button pulse
(rotary) dialing.
Automated Functions - Redial the last number called, speed dial 10 numbers
and automatic STANDBY.
Security - Ensures greater privacy because a built-in security code with 65,536
combinations prevents use of your telephone line by another nearby cordless
phone.
Dependable Battery - Recharge your battery pack many times with the built-in
charger. The warning tone tells you when the battery needs recharging.
(see page 18.)
Special Services - Use the FLASH button to access special services such
as Call Waiting supplied by your telephone company or company switchboard.
STANDBY Mode - When in STANDBY Mode, the phone is capable of receiving
a call (ON HOOK). When the HANDSET is on the base it is automatically in
the STANDBY Mode (ON HOOK). When the HANDSET is taken off the base it
remains in the STANDBY Mode until you activate the TALK button.
Battery Power Saver - Once fully charged, in STANDBY Mode and with the
RINGER SWITCH in the "ON" position, the HANDSET can receive/send calls
for a maximum of seven days without the need for recharging, depending on
frequency of use.
HANDSET Volume Level - Select the HANDSETvolume level (HI, MID, LOW).

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and/or injury, always

1. Read and understand all instructions.
2. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the telephone.
3. Unplug this telephone from the wall outlet before cleaning or replacing batteries.
Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
If necessary, use only a mild soap.
4. Do not use this telephone near a bathtub, kitchen sink, wash bowl, laundry tub,
swimming pool, in a wet basement, or anywhere else where there is water.
5. Do not place this telephone on an unstable cart, stand or table. A fall could cause
serious damage to the phone.
6. This product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register.
This product should not be placed in a built-in installation unless proper
ventilation is provided.
7. Operate this telephone only with the correct electrical voltage shown on the
marking label. If you are not sure of the voltage in your home, consult your
dealer or local power company.
8. Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not install the phone where
people will walk on the cord.
9. Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords. This can increase the risk of
fire or electric shock.
10. Never push objects of any kind through slots in the phone. They could touch
dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a risk of fire or
electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the telephone.
11. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not take this telephone apart.
When service or repair work is required on this telephone, take it to a qualified
service representative. Opening or removing covers may expose you to
dangerous voltage or other risks. Incorrect re-assembly can cause electric
shock when the appliance is used.
12. Unplug this telephone from the wall outlet and consult a qualified service
representative in any of the following situations:
A. When the power supply cord is frayed or damaged.
B. If liquid has been spilled into the telephone.
C. If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
D. If the telephone does not operate normally by following the operating
instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating
instructions. Improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage
and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the
telephone to normal operation.
E. If the telephone has been dropped or the case has been damaged.

F. If the telephone exhibits a distinct change in performance.
13. Avoid using a telephone (other than a cordless type) during an electrical storm.
There may be a remote risk of electric shock from lightning.
14. Do not use the telephone to report a gas leak in the vicinity of the leak.
15. Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
16. Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically
designed for wet locations.
17. Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line
has been disconnected at the network interface.
18. Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
BatterySafety
CAUTION:
To reduce the risk of fire or personal injury, read and follow
these instructions:
1. Use only the following type and size battery pack:

NiCad Battery Pack: 3.6V, 600mAh
2. Do not dispose of the battery pack in a fire. It may explode. Check with local
codes for possible special disposal instructions.
3. Do not open or mutilate the battery pack. Released electrolyte is corrosive and
may cause damage to the eyes or skin. It may be toxic if swallowed.
4. Exercise care in handling the battery pack to prevent shorting the battery with
conductive materials such as rings, bracelets and keys. The battery pack or
conductor may overheat and cause burns.
5. Charge the battery pack provided with or identified for use with this product
only in accordance with the instructions and limitations specified in this manual.
ATTENTION:
The product that you have purchased contains a rechargeable battery. The battery
is recyclable. At the end of its useful life, under various state and local laws, it may
be illegal to dispose of this battery into the municipal waste stream. Check with your
local solid waste officials for details in your area for recycling options or proper
disposal.

2. Talk Button: Press to answer an incoming call or to place a call. Press to
end a call.
3. In Use/Bt Low Indicator: Lights up when the HANDSET is in TALK Mode.
Blinks when battery power is low. (See page 18 for details)
4. Flash Button: Press to answer an incoming call if you have Call Waiting.
5. Memo Button: Press to store phone numbers in memory or to call a number
you have stored previously.
6. Charge Contacts: For charging battery inside the HANDSET. We
recommend cleaning the charge contacts periodically with a damp cloth.
7. Channel Select Button (CH): Press to change the operating channel when
you hear interference.

9. Ringer Switch: Turn to OFF position to disengage the ringer on the
HANDSET.
10. Redial Button: Press to redial the last number you dialed.
11. Tone Button: Press to change the dialing mode temporarily from Pulse to
Tone for Rotary Services Users. (Press once before entering numbers to
access the answering system or electronic banking services, etc.)
12. Pause Button: Press to insert a pause while dialing. (You will need
PAUSE button to dial numbers which use an alternative long distance
access code.)

In order to get maximum life from the
HANDSET battery, be sure to charge the
HANDSET for 12 hours before initial use.

When the HANDSET is placed on the BASE UNIT for charging, this indicator
light will be ON. We strongly recommend cleaning of the charge contacts
periodically with a damp cloth.

(Note: The page function is disabled when the RINGER SWITCH is OFF.)

Connecting Your Phone
This section is a reference guide to the basic functions and operations of your
cordless telephone. For more detailed descriptions of the operations and features of
this telephone, refer to the Contents on page 1.
1. Carefully remove your cordless telephone from its shipping carton. If there is any
visible damage, do not attempt to operate this equipment. Return it to the place
of purchase.
2. Check to be sure you have all items that come with this cordless telephone
system. You should have a HANDSET, BASE UNIT, ANTENNA, AC Adaptor,
Telephone Line Cord, and Owner's Manual.

3. Insert the small plug on the end of the AC adaptor into the POWER-IN connection
jack on the back of the BASE UNIT.
4. Plug the AC adaptor into a 120V AC wall outlet.
5. Insert one plug of the TELEPHONE LINE CORD into the house TELEPHONE
JACK and the other into the telephone line jack on the back of the BASE UNIT.
(If you have an older 4-prong telephone jack, you will need an RJ-11C
TELEPHONE JACK ADAPTOR. This adaptor is available at the same place you
purchased your telephone.)
6. Fully extend the antenna on the BASE UNIT for best reception.
7. We recommend not placing this unit next to appliances. Doing so may cause
interference.
8. TONE/PULSE Select Switch:
A. If your home is equipped with a touchtone dialing system, set the
TONE/PULSE select switch to the TONE position.
B. If you have a rotary dialing system, set TONE/PULSE select switch to the
PULSE position.
C. If you are unsure which system you have, set the TONE/PULSE select switch
to the TONE position. Press the TALK button on the HANDSET to get a
dial tone, and press any key on the keypad except the zero. If the dial tone
continues, you do not have touchtone dialing service. Press the TALK
button on the HANDSET to hang up. Set the TONE/PULSE select switch to
the PULSE Mode and try again.
9. Before initial use, charge the HANDSET for 12 hours.

Push the TALK button to confirm that you have a dial tone. If you
do not get a dial tone, review steps 3 through 8. If you still have no
dial tone, refer to the Problem Solving section on page 19.

WallMounting
You may choose to mount the BASE UNIT of your cordless telephone on a wall.
1. With the back of the BASE UNIT facing up, connect the SHORT TELEPHONE
LINE CORD to the telephone line jack.
2. Insert the SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD through the hole of the
MOUNTING BRACKET.
3. Insert the hooks of the MOUNTING BRACKET (marked "WALL MOUNT") into
the matching slots of the BASE UNIT (as shown below). Then slide the
MOUNTING BRACKET into place as indicated by the arrow. Plug the free end
of the SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD into the MODULAR WALL JACK.
4. Align the upper keyhole on the MOUNTING BRACKET with the upper STUD of
the wall plate, so that the opening end of the MOUNTING BRACKET matches
the lower stud, then pull the BASE UNIT down until securely seated.

Preparing for Use
Before you can use your cordless telephone, you must charge the HANDSET
for 12 hours. Failure to do so will require recharging of the battery pack more often.
1. Place the HANDSET on the BASE
UNIT for 12 hours.
2. After 12 hours, remove the
HANDSET from the BASE UNIT.
3. FULLY EXTEND THE ANTENNA FOR BEST RECEPTION.
Before you can use your cordless telephone, you must charge the HANDSET
for 12 hours. Failure to do so will require more frequent charging of the
battery pack. See page 18 for more information on the battery.
NOTE:
If you are far away from the BASE UNIT, the HANDSET emits a beep
sound (every 5 seconds) to warn you that the background noise level is
too high for proper communication between the HANDSET and the
BASE UNIT.
When you hear this sound, you should move closer to the BASE UNIT
to reduce the noise level. Otherwise, the call will automatically cut off.

The AC ADAPTOR must always be
plugged into an electrical outlet.

Receiving Calls with the HANDSET on the BASE
UNIT
1. When the phone rings, lift the HANDSET.
The IN USE Indicator will light up.
(Note: The HANDSET RINGER SWITCH
must be in the "ON" position.)
2. Start your conversation.
3. To end your conversation, either press
the TALK button or place the HANDSET
on the BASE UNIT. If you place the HANDSET
on the BASE UNIT charge cradle, you activate
the automatic STANDBY feature.
Receiving Calls with the HANDSET off the BASE
UNIT
1. When the phone rings, press the TALK button. The IN USE
Indicator will light up.
2. Start your conversation.
3. To end your conversation, either press the TALK button or place the
HANDSET on the BASE UNIT. If the HANDSET is placed on the BASE
UNIT charge cradle, the automatic STANDBY feature is then activated.
(Note: The BASE UNIT has no buzzer and does not ring when receiving
an incoming call.)
Once the HANDSET is fully charged, it is operable for approximately 6 hours of
continuous talk use and approximately 7 days when the HANDSET is left off the
BASE UNIT in STANDBY Mode with the RINGER SWITCH in the "ON" position,
depending on frequency of use.

3. Listen for a dial tone.
4. Press the REDIAL button. This will
automatically redial the last telephone
number you called.

When you hear interference, press the CH
button to change the operating channel.

1. Be sure the BASE UNIT IN USE Indicator is off and the HANDSET
is in STANDBY Mode (See special features section).
2. Press the button.
3. Dial the number you want to store.
4. Press the button again.
5. Dial the index number (0-9) where you want to store that number.
You will hear one confirmation beep.
6. Write the name of the person you will be calling with that number next
to the corresponding index number on the telephone number card.
7. Repeat for other telephone numbers.
EXAMPLE: To store the number 555-1212 under the index number 1 on the
keypad:
1 - Press the button. 4 - Press 1 on the keypad.
2 - Dial 555-1212. 5 - You have stored 555-1212 under
3 - Press the button again.
A total of 10 telephone numbers can be programmed in memory.
IMPORTANT: The maximum number of digits that can be stored for any phone
number is 16 in pulse or tone mode. The maximum number of digits for mixed (tone
and pulse in combination) dialing is 15. If you are using a switchboard system to
access an outside line (such as an 8 or 9), press the PAUSE button to store a
pause.

Security System

Security
Your cordless telephone uses a digital coding security system to prevent
unauthorized use of your telephone line by another nearby cordless telephone.
The system has its own identifying signal created by microcomputersin both the
BASE UNIT and HANDSET.
SecurityCode
This telephone has an internal security code with 65,536 possible combinations.
Each time you pick up the HANDSET, the code is randomly set to a new
combination.
ResettingSecurityCodeandChannelInformation
Communication between HANDSET and BASE UNIT may not be possible
in any of the following situations:
1. After a power failure.
2. After relocating the BASE UNIT by disconnecting the AC ADAPTOR.
3. After replacing the HANDSET battery.
To reset, place the HANDSET on the BASE UNIT for 3 to 5 seconds and a
confirmation "beep" will be heard.
Multi-ChannelAccess
Your cordless telephone lets you select a channel from the 40 frequencies
available to transmit signals between the BASE UNIT and HANDSET. When
you notice interference from other cordless telephones, change to another
channel by pressing the button on the HANDSET.
