7. Functional description
7.1 Brief details
The X-ray film developer XR24Easy is fitted
with a Start-Stop-Automatic
The appliance on stand-by mode will start auto-
matically on the insertion of a film
The film will be transported through both the de-
veloper and fixer baths, and then be carried
through the water bath to the drying zone
Approximately 1 minute after the film run
through process has ended, the machine auto-
matically switches into stand-by mode
7.2 Warm-up stage
After switching on the main power supply (A) the
yellow LED (B) lights up As long as the yellow
LED is displayed, the temperature in the develo-
per bath and the fixer bath is being raised
Heating is effected by a heat cartridge in the
process heater (19) The temperature, factory-
set, is regulated by a capillary tube controller
(18)
During the warm-up stage, no film can be pulled
in and developed
The bath circulation processes (KE) and (KF) of
the developer bath and fixer bath start after a
delay of ca 60 seconds after the XR24Easy
has been switched on
The rotary pump (16) feeds developer and fixer
from 5 litre tanks via the process heater (19) into
the bath (23) through two separated hose
systems
7.3 Operating phase
The XR24Easy is on stand-by mode when the
yellow and green LEDs both light
When a film is placed in the film insertion slot (1)
it triggers the film feed flap (2) and the orange
LED (D) lights
The following activities are initiated:
Solenoid valve, motor, heating and rotary
pump
• The solenoid valve (17) serves to open the
water inflow (WZ) The connection pressure
causes the water to flow to the water bath (W)
and from there to the waste water drainage
(WA) If the waste water drainage is blocked,
the level will rise in the water bath (W) until the
level sensor (7) closes the solenoid valve (17)
and prevents further water inflow
• The motor (15) operates the drive shaft (10)
via the roller belt (14) The toothed cogs on
the roller sets are directly connected to the
worm screw cogs of the drive shaft This con-
nection serves to rotate the rollers of the roller
sets in order to transport the film through the
various process steps
The various film processing steps are:
1 Film insertion slot, 2 Developer bath and
Fixer bath, 3 Water bath, 4Dryer
• The ventilation fan (13) serves to extract air
On its way to the drying zone the air is war-
med by the heating system
The heating temperature is set to a stationary
value
• The rotary pump (16) activates the circulation
of the developer and fixer baths During the
operational cycle the capillary tube controller
(18) regulates the temperature of the bath(s)
After insertion of the film the film feed flap (2)
closes A further film can be inserted as soon as
the orange LED (D) switches off
The film travels through the developer bath (E),
then through the fixer bath (F) and finally through
the water rinse bath (W) and always at a con-
stant steady speed Afterwards the film is dried
by passing through warm air and arrives at the
film outlet slot (8) and leaves the developer
Approximately 1 minute after the film processing
cycle has ended, the machine is automatically
returned to stand-by mode
7.3.1 Temperature control
The temperature of the bath(s) is regulated by
the capillary tube controller in the process
heater
7.3.2 Sealing profile of roller sets
The roller sets developer/fixer (4) and the roller
set water (6) are fitted with extra sealing profiles
(24) These sealing lips prevent fluids from es-
caping The level of fluids in the roller sets devel-
oper/fixer are kept to a set level

8. Set-up
8.1 Room for set-up
• The XR24Easy developer may only be ope-
rated in a clean, dry and well-ventilated room
• Room temperature must not fall below +10°C
in winter and must not exceed +28°C in
summer
Never expose the machine to direct
sunlight! Danger of the chemicals over-
heating or pre-exposure of film
materials
• The room chosen for set-up must have ac-
cess to a water connection (water tap) (28)
R3/4" with pipe anti-vacuum device, waste
water drainage (29) with aeration (anti-odour)
via plastic siphon and an electrical safety so-
cket (27) Having a sink for washing next to
the developer is also recommended
The water tap (28) and electrical safety so-
cket (27) must be easily accessible to the
operating personnel.
• We strongly recommend that set-up of the
XR24Easy is effected in a darkroom
If the appliance cannot be set up in a dar-
kroom, then a daylight cover (24) (DL24 or
DL26) must be fitted
• When operating an appliance with daylight co-
ver (25) please note:
Do not store films in the vicinity of a
room used to take X-rays!
When storing film material in the film de-
pot (26) of a daylight cover there is the
danger of pre-exposure The pre-expo-
sure can be caused by the X-ray
appliance
If necessary impose a separating wall or barrier
equipped with lead protection between

8.2 Unpack the appliance
• Cut the plastic ties from the packaging Lift
the box upwards and remove
• Remove all small parts
8.3 Prepare set-up location
• The appliance should be set-up on a stable,
flat and suitably large working surface at an
appropriate height for working at
• In order to have access to the hoses the wor-
king surface should have at least one opening
of ca 10x7cm
• Take into account the need for additional
space for servicing and for sufficient ventilati-
on for the appliance:
At least 10 cm free space behind, appro-
ximately 50 cm free space to the left and
right.
Leave enough space at the front in case a day-
light cover (25) is to be used
8.4 Set-up
• Lift the appliance at the sides and place in its
set-up position
• The distance between the machine and the
water connection or the water drain and the
electrical safety socket should be maximum
15 m
• Set up the appliance so that it has a slight tilt,
ca 03° to the fixer bath (fig 7)
Adjust the feet of the appliance (30) using the
spanner provided (31) as required

9. Installation
9.1 Water connections
• Check that clean, clear water flows from the
water tap (28)
When installing for the first time make sure
the connection is allowed to flow and rinse
first!
• Turn off the water tap (28)
• Connect the 90° elbow piece (34) to the water
tap (28), mounting the fine filter (33) (arrow in
direction of flow) and the double nipple piece
(32) at the same time
Because the quality of water varies from
region to region we strongly recommend
fitting a fine filter (33) (order no 1700-
008-00) between the water tap (28) and
the water hose (35)
The fine filter (33) protects the flow regu-
lator in the water intake valve of the ap-
pliance from becoming dirty
• Check, whether the coarse filter (35a) and
both seals (35b) are present in the threaded
pipe fittings for the water hose (35)
• Connect the water hose (35) to the water in-
flow (36) of the appliance (threaded pipe fitting
with coarse filter) and connect to double nipp-
le piece (32)

Problems with the waste water
flow can be avoided by keeping the
following in mind when laying the
waste water hose:
Do not let the hose hang!
Avoid squeezing or reducing the
pressure on hose!
• Apply a small amount of UHU-Plast or similar
to the outside of the hose end of the waste
water hose (37)
• Screw the screw socket (38) onto the waste
water hose (37)
• Fasten the drainage hose onto the connector
of the siphon trap (40) with hose clamp (39)
• Fix the waste water hose to the wall using
hose clamp, screws and dowels
9.3 Waste water hose connection
from developer and fixer
• Place the 10l-collector tanks (43) for develo-
per (black level indicator marker) and fixer (red
level indicator marker) below the appliance in
a clearly visible position and free from the
possibility of tilting See also fig 11
• Lay the hose (41) with constant incline
• Shorten the hoses to the correct length
• Slide the hose for developer (black marking)
through the opening of the black cover (42)
(Fig 13)
• Screw the cover (42) of the collector (43) for
developer on tightly
• Fix the hose for fixer (red markings) in the
same way to the fixer collector
As soon as the level in the collector
reaches the level indicator markings
(43a) then the collector must be
emptied.
Danger of spilling!

10. Electrical connection
This appliance is designed for use with
supply voltage of 230 V, 50/60 Hz (see mo-
del identification plate, fig. 1).
Before connection of the main po-
wer cable it is important to check
whether the required voltage is
available, otherwise the appliance
can be damaged.
Use the Dürr mains cable supplied.
The appliance may only be connected to
the mains supply when all panels and the
cover are correctly in place.
• Connect the power plug (49) into the appli-
ance and into the main power socket
• Replace the side covers (46)
(ventilation slots to rear)
• Place the front panel with the label
XR24Easy in place and secure with three
cross-headed screws (48)
Do not mix up the front and rear panels
Only the front panel has the necessary
bored holes for attaching the daylight
cover
• Pass the quick-release catches (46a) through
the holes provided on the front panel
46
47
48
• Similarly fix the rear panel in place with the
three cross-headed screws (47)
