1.0 Product Description
1.1 General Description
The PICO-200 is a diamond wafering saw with a flat table capable of sectioning delicate specimens. The
PICO-200 is a table saw variant of the PICO line of wafering saws.
The specimen is secured to the table using vertical clamps while the blade is manually fed into the part.
Being equipped with a versatile T-Slot table the PICO-200 has and endless amount of clamping positions.
This allows the saw to cut longer parts that are typically harder to impossible on a standard gravity feed
wafering saw.
Many blade sizes ranging from 5 to 7 inches are supported. Wet or dry cutting is possible with the PICO-
200. An internal coolant tank is located below the hinged table.

1.3 Features
Passive Cooling System
The PICO-200 has a passive cooling system.
The blade runs through the cutting fluid held
under the cutting table. This action cleans the
blade while also cooling it. The fluid on the
blade cools the part as it cuts.
Motor Feedback
The PICO-200 is quipped with a 200W motor
that has a feedback loop for maintaining cutting
velocity. This allows the PICO-200 to adjust
power and torque as needed to maintain blade
rpm. The circuit has overload protection to stop
the blade if too many amps are pulled. This
occurs when the blade gets jammed in a part or
if the manual feed is too aggressive.
East to Use
The PICO-200 is easy to operate with its simple
control scheme. Adjust rpm with a simple turn of
a dial. The manual feed wheel gives a nice
feedback to the hand while moving the blade.
Multi-Purpose Machine
The PICO-200 saw can be used dry or wet. This
allows the operator to determine the best way to
cut a specimen. With the magnetic over-ride
switch enabled the operator can manually feed
parts if needed.

2.0 Unpacking, Shipping, and Installation
2.1 Unpacking
The PICO-200 is shipped in a customized box. Remove any foam, paper, and
accessories. Remove machine from the box using at least two people.
2.2 Shipping
Measures WxDxH: 25.5 x 23.5 x 20 inches (650 x 600 x 510 mm)
Weight: Weight with crate (approximately 120 lbs).
2.3.1 Installation
Install the unit carefully! Improper installation voids warranty.
The PICO-200 should be placed on a flat and stable surface.
Connect the unit to a drain line and electrical outlet. Note that the machine only
accepts one input voltage (the voltage is noted on the machine plate and has been
pre-wired at the factory.) After all connections are completed, the system is ready to
be used.

Drain Hose: The Drain hose needs to have enough clearance to avoid kinking of the line.
If there is not enough clearance the machine will not be able to drain properly. Replacing
the coolant in the tank is essential for proper cutting, cooling, and cleaning of the blade.
Refer to the Maintenance section for recommended usage.

4.2 Changing Wafering Blade
1. Lift the table and ensure the table locks in place
2. Using the provided wrenches (14 mm and 28 mm) hold the blade arbor and the
locking nut with their respective wrenches
3. Loosen the blade locking nut and remove it
4. Remove the blade and position new blade on arbor
5. Place locking nut back into arbor and tighten. Do not over tighten as this might
warp the blade
4.3 Positioning Sample
The PICO-200 has a large cutting table. Identify where the cut needs to take place
and position the part on the table in front of the blade. Use the vertical clamps to hold
the part down to the table. Ensure that the part will not move. Use your hand and
attempt to move it, if it slips at then tightening or repositioning is required.

5.0 Maintenance
5.1 Introduction
The PICO-200 wafering saw requires very minimal maintenance. However, to
increase the life of the saw, it is suggested that the cutting fluid be changed regularly
(weekly) using a cutting fluid containing an anti-corrosion additive (e.g DIACUT 2
cutting fluid).
After use it is also recommended that the unit be thoroughly rinsed and dried.

5.2 Cleaning the Outside Cabinet
The cabinet and hood shield should be cleaned occasionally with a moist cloth. Do
not use chemicals or cleaning abrasives.
5.3 Maintenance Schedule
Daily: Clean and dry out unit after use.
Weekly: Change out cutting fluid. Clean outside cabinet and hood
Monthly: Clean out internal fluid reservoir while replacing cutting fluid

7.0 Wafering Sectioning
7.1 Introduction
Wafer cutting is used for sectioning very delicate sample or for sectioning a sample in a
very precise location. The PICO-200 allows long samples to be cut in a precise
location.
7.2 Wafering Blade Characteristics
In order to minimize cutting damage, precision wafer cutting most frequently uses
diamond wafering blades, however for some materials the use of cubic boron nitride
(CBN) is more efficient. In addition, optimal wafer cutting is accomplished by
maximizing the abrasive concentration and abrasive size, as well as choosing the most
appropriate cutting speed and load. Table III provides some general guidelines and
parameters for precision sectioning a variety of materials.
The particle size of fine diamond grit blades is 10-20 microns or approximately 600 grit.
For medium grit diamond wafering blades, the particle size is 60-70 micron or 220 grit.
For these types of wafering blades, the abrasive is mixed with a metal binder and then
pressed under high pressure. As will be discussed in the next section, periodic dressing
/ conditioning of the metal pressed blades is required for optimum cutting performance
of the blade.
