1. FIRST OF ALL
• Before installing the unit, read this manual thoroughly, and
following the instructions contained in it. After installation, do a
test run to make sure the unit runs properly, and then explain
how to operate and take care of the unit to the customer, using
the operation manual.
• Lastly, make sure the customer keeps this manual, along with
the operation manual, in a safe place.
• This manual does not describe how to install the indoor unit and
the remote controller. Refer to the installation manual included
with the indoor unit for that.
1-1 Safety precautions
Please read the these “Safety precautions” carefully before
installing air conditioning unit and be sure to install it correctly.
After completing the installation, make sure that the unit operates
properly during the start-up operation.
Please instruct the customer on how to operate the unit and keep it
maintained.
Also, inform customers that they should store this installation
manual along with the operation manual for future reference.
After completing installation, conduct a trial operation to check for
faults and explain to the customer how to operate the air conditioner
and take care of it with the aid of the operation manual.
Ask the customer to store the installation manual along with the
operation manual for future reference.

strongly recommended to observe.

WARNING

Do not attempt to install the air conditioner yourself. Improper
installationmayresultinwaterleakage,electricshocksorre.
• Install the air conditioner in accordance with the instructions in
this installation manual.
Improper installation may result in water leakage, electric shocks
orre.
• Consult your local dealer regarding what to do in case of
refrigerant leakage, when the air conditioner is to be installed in
a small room, it is necessary to take proper measures so that
the amount of any leaked refrigerant does not exceed the
concentration limit in the event of leakage. Otherwise, this may
lead to an accident due to oxygen depletion.
• Besuretouseonlythespeciedaccessoriesandpartsfor
installation work.
Failuretousethespeciedpartsmayresultintheunitfalling,
waterleakage,electricshocksorre.
• Install the air conditioner on a foundation strong enough to
withstand the weight of the unit.
Afoundationofinsufcientstrengthmayresultintheequipment
falling and causing injury.
• Carryoutthespeciedinstallationworkaftertakingintoaccount
strong winds, typhoons or earthquakes.
Failure to do so during installation work may result in the unit
falling and causing accidents.
• Make sure that a separate power supply circuit is provided for
thisunitandthatallelectricalworkiscarriedoutbyqualied
personnel according to local laws and regulations and this
installation manual.
Aninsufcientpowersupplycapacityorimproperelectrical
constructionmayleadtoelectricshocksorre.
• Makesurethatallwiringissecured,thespeciedwiresareused,
and that there is no strain on the terminal connections or wires.
Improper connections or securing of wires may result in abnormal
heatbuild-uporre.
• When wiring the power supply and connecting the wiring
between the indoor and outdoor units, position the wires so that
the EL.COMPO.BOX lid can be securely fastened.
Improper positioning of the EL.COMPO.BOX lid may result in
electricshocks,reortheterminalsoverheating.
• If refrigerant gas leaks during installation, ventilate the area
immediately.
Toxic gas may be produced if the refrigerant comes into contact
withre.
• After completing installation, check for refrigerant gas leakage.
Toxic gas may be produced if the refrigerant gas leaks into the
roomandcomesintocontactwithasourceofre,suchasafan
heater, stove or cooker.
• Do not directly touch refrigerant that has leaked from refrigerant
pipes or other areas, as there is a danger of frostbite.
• Be sure to switch off the unit before touching any electrical parts.
• Do not allow children to climb on the outdoor unit and avoid
placing objects on the unit.
Injury may result if the unit becomes loose and falls.
• Be sure to earth the air conditioner.
Do not earth the unit to a utility pipe, lightning conductor
or telephone earth lead.
Imperfectearthingmayresultinelectricshocksorre.
A high surge current from lightning or other sources
may cause damage to the air conditioner.
• Be sure to install an earth leakage breaker.
Failure to install an earth leakage breaker may result in electric
shocksorre.

CAUTION
• While following the instructions in this installation manual, install
drain piping to ensure proper drainage and insulate piping to
prevent condensation.
Improper drain piping may result in indoor water leakage and
property damage.
• Install the indoor and outdoor units, power cord and connecting
wires at least 1 meter away from televisions or radios to prevent
picture interference and noise.
(Depending on the incoming signal strength, a distance of
1metermaynotbesufcienttoeliminatenoise.)
• Remote controller (wireless kit) transmitting distance can be
shorterthanexpectedinroomswithelectronicuorescentlamps
(inverter or rapid start types).
Installtheindoorunitasfarawayfromuorescentlampsas
possible.
• Make sure to provide for adequate measures in order to prevent
that the outdoor unit be used as a shelter by small animals.
Small animals making contact with electrical parts can cause
malfunctions,smokeorre.Pleaseinstructthecustomerto
keep the area around the unit clean.
• Do not install the air conditioner in the following locations:
1. Where there is a high concentration of mineral oil spray or
vapour (e.g. a kitchen).
Plastic parts will deteriorate, parts may fall off and water
leakage could result.
2. Where corrosive gas, such as sulphurous acid gas, is
produced.
Corroding of copper pipes or soldered parts may result in
refrigerant leakage.
3. Near machinery emitting electromagnetic radiation.
Electromagnetic radiation may disturb the operation of the
control system and result in a malfunction of the unit.
4. Whereammablegasmayleak,wherethereiscarbonbre
or ignitable dust suspensions in the air, or where volatile
ammablessuchaspaintthinnerorgasolinearehandled.
Operatingtheunitinsuchconditionsmayresultinre.
5. Do not climb up the outdoor unit or place objects on it.
Falling or tumbling may result in injury.
6. Do not wash the outdoor or indoor unit with water.
Otherwise,itmaycauseelectricshocksandreharzards.
1-2 Special notice of product
[CLASSIFICATION]
This air conditioner comes under the term “appliances not
accessible to the general public”.
[EMC CHARACTERISTICS]
In a domestic environment this product may cause radio
interference in which case the user may be required to take
adequate measures.
[REFRIGERANT]
This series uses R410A refrigerant.
• The refrigerant R410A requires that strict precautions be
observed for keeping the system clean, dry and tightly sealed.
A. Clean and dry
Strict measures must be taken to keep impurities (including
SUNISO oil and other mineral oils as well as moisture) out of
the system.
B. Tight sealed
Take care to keep the system tight when installing.
R410Acontainsnochlorine,doesnotdestroytheozonelayer
and so does not reduce the earth’s protection against harmful
ultraviolet radiation.
R410A will contribute only slightly to the greenhouse effect if
released into the atmosphere.
• Since R410A is a mixed refrigerant, the required additional
refrigerant must be charged in its liquid state. (If the system is
charged with refrigerant in its gaseous state, due to composition
change, the system will not function normally.)
[DESIGN PRESSURE]
Since design pressure is 4.0MPa or 40bar, the wall thickness of
pipes should be more carefully selected in accordance with the
relevant local and national regulations.
1-3 Disposal requirements
Dismantling of the unit, treatment of the refrigerant, of oil and of
other parts must be done in accordance with relevant local and
national legislation.
2. INTRODUCTION
1. This series uses R410A refrigerant. Be absolutely sure to
comply with “7. REFRIGERANT PIPING CONNECTION”,
because even greater caution is needed to prevent impurities
from entering R410A (mineral oils and water).
2. The design pressure is 4.0MPa which means that piping may
be thicker than conventionally, so please refer to
“7. REFRIGERANT PIPING CONNECTION”.
3. This is a mixed refrigerant, so charge as a liquid when adding
refrigerant.
(If charged as a gas, the composition of the refrigerant may
change, preventing normal operation.)
4. The indoor unit must use R410A. See the catalog for indoor unit
models which can be connected. (Normal operation is not
possible when connected to other units.)
5. The power supply for the RZQ-M models is three phase,
380V-415V,50Hz.

• Remove the packaging (L-pillar) used to protect the unit while
carrying from the right front part.
Follow the steps below to remove.
1. Remove the front plate screw.

Note
Do not place your ngers into the inlet holes of the casing
while moving the unit. Failure to do so may result in
deformation. Only hold the corner of the unit with your hands.

4. SELECTING INSTALLATION LOCATION
(1) Select a location for installation that meets the following
conditions and get the customer’s approval.
• Good ventilation.
• Not disturbing the neighbors.
• No shelters of the small animals.
• Solid enough to support the weight and vibration of the unit
whichcanbeplacedhorizontally.
• Able to avoid raining as much as possible.
• Adequate space kept around the unit for installation.
• Outdoor piping and wiring within the allowable length range.
• Noriskofammablegasleaks.
(2) When installing in locations where there is a possibility of
strong wind, take the following measures.
•
If the strong wind with speed over 5m/s blowing to the exhaust
sideoftheoutdoorunit,thedecreasedairowrateand
re-absorbed exhausted gas (short circuit) etc. by the outdoor
unit will lead to:
- Decreased capability
- Increased frost during heating
- Operation stopped as high pressure increases
• Excessive strong wind continually blowing to the front
exhaust side of the outdoor unit will result in the fan reversing
at a high speed and being damaged. Refer to the

(3) When installing in locations where there is heavy snowfall,
take the following measures.
• Block up the base.
• Installsnowhoods(eldsupply).
• Remove the rear suction grille to prevent snow from
accumulatingonthens.
(4) If there is a risk of short circuit for the outdoor unit in the
ambient environment, use air ow direction adjustment
plate (eld supply).
(5) The refrigerant gas (R410A) is nontoxic, nonammable and
safe. It is necessary to take measures against to keep
refrigerant concentration from exceeding allowable safety
limits in a small room in the event of refrigerant leakage.
(6) An inverter air conditioner may cause home appliances
produce noise.
When selecting the location for installation, keep the air
conditioner and wiring a proper distance away from radios,
computersandstereoequipmentasshowninthefollowinggure.
Particularly for location with weak wave reception, be sure to keep
a distance of at least 3m between the indoor unit and the remote
controllers and place the power supply wiring and transmission
wiring in conduits, and connect the conduits to the ground.
In addition, use the shielded wires for all electric wires between
units.

5. PRECAUTIONS DURING INSTALLATION
• To prevent vibration and noise, check the foundation is solid and
level before installation.
• Asshowninthefollowinggure,rmlysecuretheunittoa
stable base using anchor bolts.
(Prepare four sets of M12 foundation bolts, nuts and washers
each which are available on the market.)
• The foundation bolts should be inserted 20 mm.

[About drainage handling] : option parts
• Use the drain pipe to drain the water off.
• In the cold areas, drain the water off the outdoor unit freely.
(Ifusingthedrainpipe,thedrainedwaterwillfreezeonthe
foundation and adversely affect the heating effect.)
1. Insert the water drain pan (C) into the 4 projections of the
drain socket (A) and drain cover (B) respectively.
2. Insert the drain socket and the drain cover into the outlets
correspondingly and respectively (insert the drain socket (A)
into water outlet and drain cover (B) into water outlet
and ), then turn them clockwise for 40° around.

Check if the water drain pan (C) has been clasped to the
projections of the drain socket (A) and drain cover (B) reliably.

3. Connect the commercially-sold polyethylene tube
(inner diameter 25mm) to the drain socket (A).
(If the tube is so long that it nearly hangs down, secure it
properly to prevent the tube from being twisted or bent.)

Ifthewateroutletiscoveredbythehangingbracketoroor,
block up the air conditioner and keep an interspace over
100m under the outdoor unit’s footing.

6. ELECTRICAL WIRING
CAUTION
To those doing electrical work
• Do not operate the unit before completing refrigerant piping
connection. (Failure to do so will result in compressor
malfunction.)
• Install the earth leakage circuit breaker. (Since this unit is
equipped with an inverter, to prevent malfunction of the earth
leakage circuit breaker itself, select the breaker that be
capable of handling high harmonics.)
6-1 Example of whole system wiring connection
• Be sure to install the earth leakage circuit breaker to prevent
electricshockandrehazard,etc.
• The electrical wiring must be installed by the trained electricians.
• Perform wiring connection in accordance with “Electrical Wiring
Diagram Label”.
Only conduct the wiring connection after turning off the branch
circuit breaker and the over current circuit breaker.
• Thegroundingimpedancemustbe4Ωorless.
• Set the earth leakage circuit breaker.
• Earth the indoor and outdoor units.
• Do not connect the earth wire to the gas pipes, water pipes,
lightning rods or telephone earth wires.
- Gas pipes:gasleakscancauseexplosionorre.
-
Water pipes : cannot be grounded if hard vinyl pipes are used.
- Telephone earth wires or lightning rods: the ground
potential when struck by lightning may get extremely high.
• Only use the copper wires.
• Be sure to turn off the power supply before performing the
electrical wiring work. Do not switch on the breakers until all
wiring work being completed.
• Install the earth leakage circuit breaker.
(Since this unit is equipped with an inverter, to prevent
malfunction of the earth leakage circuit breaker itself, select the
breaker that be capable of handling high harmonics.)
• Connect the power wiring and the power supply terminal blocks
asshowninthefollowinggureandtightentheclamps.
• Fuse models of the outdoor unit:
F1U (T6.3A/250V)
F6U (T3.15A/250V)
• The unit is equipped with an inverter. Always connect the earth
wire to discharge the unit and eliminate the impact on other
devices by reducing the noise generated from the inverter, and
to prevent the unit casing from being live due to electric leakage.
• Never install a phase advancing capacitor to improve the power
factor. (Installing a phase advancing capacitor will not improve
the power factor, but may cause the capacitor abnormal heating
and accidents.)
• For the wiring, use the designated electric wires and connect
rmly,thensecurethemwiththeaccessoryclampstoprevent
outside force from being applied to the terminal area (terminals
of the transmission wiring and earth wire connected on site).
For details, please refer to 6-3 Precautions to power wiring
connection.
• Do not tie the remaining wires in a bunch and tuck into the unit.
•
Place the electric wires in the conduits or plastic sleeves to prevent
them from being scratched by the edge of the knockout hole.
• Secure the electric wires with the accessory buckles to prevent it
from touching the piping and stop valves (Refer to 6-3 Precautions
to power wiring connection.)
CAUTION
• Use the sheathed wires for the power wiring.
• Do not route the weak electric wiring (remote controller wire
and wiring between units) together with the strong one
outside the air conditioner, keeping them at least 50mm
apart. Otherwise, being affected by the electrical noise
(external noise) may result in malfunction or breakdown.
• Be sure to connect the power wiring to the power supply
terminal blocks and hold it in place in accordance with
6-3 Precautions to power wiring connection.
• Hold the wiring between air conditioner units in place in
accordance with 6-4 Precautions to wiring connection
between units.
• Secure the electric wires using the accessory clamps to
prevent it from touching the piping, etc.
• After connecting the electric wires, lay the wires in a
smooth and regular way to avoid the electronic component
box cover being protruded, then close the cover tightly.

6-2 Precautions to lead out power wiring and
transmission wiring
Lead out the power wiring (including the earth wire) from the power
wiring outlets at the sides, front or back of the units.
Lead out the electric wires between units from the wiring outlet,
piping outlet or knockout holes in the front of the units.

• Do not connect the power supply to the single-phase wiring
terminals.
Otherwise, the whole system will be damaged.
• The wiring from the indoor unit must be connected to the PC
board terminal F1/F2 (TO IN/D UNIT) of the outdoor unit.
• For the electric wires between units, after being secured within
the unit, wrap them together with the refrigerant piping connected
locallyusingtheprotectivetapeasshowninthegurebelow.

7. REFRIGERANT PIPING CONNECTION
7-1 Installation tools
To withstand the pressure and prevent entry of any impurities
into the air conditioning system, always use the special
installation tools for R410A.
Multi-purpose
gauge hose
• To withstand the pressure and prevent entry of
any impurities (mineral oils such as specialized
lubricating oil and moisture), be sure to use the
special installation tools for R410A.
(Screw specications for R410A and R407C are
different.)
Vacuum pump
• Make sure that the engine oil in the pump will not
ow backward into the air conditioning system
when the pump stops.
• Use the vacuum pump able to lower the pressure
to -100.7Pa (5Torr, -755mmHg).
7-2 Selecting piping material
• Do not use the pipes covered with sulfur, iron oxide, dust, cutting
oil, moisture or other contamination inside. (Better not to exceed
30mg/10m for the oil inside the pipes).
• Select a thickness for the refrigerant piping in accordance with
the local laws and regulations.
For R410A, the design pressure is 4.0 MPa.
• Use the refrigerant piping with its thickness complying with
Japan’s High-Pressure Gas Control Law (January 2003).
• Thicknessandsize:determinethembasedontheprecautions
forpipingsizeselectionontheback.
• While performing the piping work, make sure that the piping is
within the maximum allowable ranges for length, height in
difference and branch piping length listed on the back.
7-3 Piping protection
• Maintain and protect the piping to prevent moisture from getting
into and the entry of the impurities and dust, etc.
• Pay special caution when penetrating the copper pipes through
the walls till outside.

Keep the system under this condition for more than 1 hour, check if
the vacuum gauge indication rises or not.
(If it rises, the system may either contain moisture inside or have
gas leak.)
If moisture might enter the piping (e.g. if doing work during the
rainy season, if the actual work takes long enough that condensation
may form on the inside of the pipes, if rain might enter the pipes
during work, etc.)
Afterperformingthevacuumdryingfor2hours,pressurizeto
0.05MPa(vacuumbreakdown)withnitrogengas,thendepressurize
down to -100.7 kPa or less and hold for an hour using the vacuum
pump (vacuum drying).
(Ifthepressuredoesnotreach-100.7kPaevenafterdepressurizing
for at least 2 hours, repeat the vacuum breakdown-vacuum drying
process.) After vacuum drying, maintain the vacuum for an hour and

8. CHARGING REFRIGERANT
WARNING
• Be sure to inform other installers or attach the front panel
well before you leaving with the power supply turned on for
the outdoor unit.

• Check whether the tank has a siphon pipe before charging and
place the tank properly so that the refrigerant is charged in the

Electric shock warning
• Never touch other parts excluding the push buttons of the PC
board (A1P) during setting.
• There is a risk of electric shock if you touch wrong, since this
operation must be performed with the power on.
CAUTION
• Use protective equipment (groves and goggles) when charging
the refrigerant.
• To prevent the liquid hammer, the refrigerant must not be
charged over the allowable maximum amount.
• Do not perform the refrigerant charging operation when indoor
unit is under construction.
• Beware the fan running when opening the front panel.
The fan may continue rotating after the outdoor unit stops.

• The refrigerant charge port is connected to the unit piping.
When shipped, the unit’s piping is charged with refrigerant, take
care when attaching the charge hose.
• After refrigerant charging is completed, secure the refrigerant
chargeportcaptightly,toatighteningtorqueof11.5~13.9N∙m.
• See stop valve operation procedure under “7. REFRIGERANT
PIPING CONNECTION” for details on Stop valve operation

• When the refrigerant charging operation is completed or
paused, close the valve of the refrigerant tank immediately. If the
tank valve is left open, the amount of refrigerant which is
properly charged may be off the point. Because even if the air
conditioner stops, the refrigerant will be charged into the unit
under the residual pressure.

Check if the liquid side and gas side stop valves are opened.

Precautions” label.
8. Insulation test on main power circuit
•Use500Vinsulationtester.
•Donotuseitinlowvoltagecircuit.(Connectionwiring
between units, etc.)
CAUTION
To those doing piping work
• Be sure to open the stop valves after completing wiring
connection. (Operation with the stop valve closed will
result in compressor malfunction.)
10. ABOUT TEST RUN
To start smoothly, a crankcase heater is equipped to the unit.
To power up the crankcase heater, be sure to turn on the
power supply 6 hours before operation.
WARNING
Be sure to inform other installers or attach the
front panel well before leaving with the power
supply turned on for the outdoor unit.
(Raise the front panel as high as possible during
installation to clamp it with the top panel.)
Before powering on
• Indoor unit connected with the outdoor unit will operate
automatically after powering on.
To ensure safety, check the indoor unit installation has been
completed.
10-1 Powering on – test run
• Makesuretoperformatestrunrstafterinstallation.(Iftheunit
is operated with the indoor unit’s remote controller but without
performing test run, the malfunction code test “U3” will be
indicated on the display of the remote controller and the unit will
not operate normally.)
• After turning on the power supply, do not touch any parts
excluding button switches and changeover switches when
setting the outdoor unit’s PC board (A1P).
(For positions of the button switches (BS1~5) and changeover
switches (DS1-1~4) on PC board, refer to the “Service
Precautions” label.)
• Check the state of the outdoor units and fault wiring with this
operation.
1. • Attach the front panel of the
outdoor unit.
• Turn on the power supply of
the outdoor and indoor units.
CAUTION
To power up the crankcase heater
in advance, be sure to turn on the
power supply 6 hours before
operation.
2. • Remove the front panel of the outdoor unit.
• Check LED display of the outdoor unit’s PC board (A1P), to observe whether
data transmission is normal.

Don’t touch the parts other than button switches and changeover switches
of the PC board (A1P) during setting. Failure to do so may result in electric
shock.

If customer wishes to perform
LOW NOISE operation or
DEMAND operation, perform
setting with the push buttons
(BS1~5) on outdoor unit’s PC
board (A1P).
(See the “Service Precautions”
label for details.)
Power supply has been turned on for
outdoor unit, be careful to avoid electric
shock.
• Set the push buttons (BS1~5) after
making sure the microcomputer normal
monitoring lamp has been ON.
• For setting method, see the “Service
Precautions” label attached to the front
panel of the outdoor unit.
(Be sure to keep a record of the setting
items in the “Service Precautions” label.)

Check whether the gas side
and liquid side stop valves
have been opened.
Open them if they are closed.
CAUTION
Operation with the stop valve
closed may result in compressor
malfunction.
5. Press TEST button (BS4) for
5 seconds or more to perform
test run.
See Test run precautions on
the “Service Precautions” label
for details.
• This display of the remote controller
indicates symbol if test run during this
operation.
• Ask other installers to perform test run or
attach the front panel before having to leave
the outdoor unit working alone.
• Test run is automatically stopped after about
15 minutes (maximum 30 minutes)
operation. (When charging the refrigerant of
calculated amount, test run is automatically
stopped after 30 minutes (maximum 1 hour)
operation.)
• If there is a malfunction code on the display
of the remote controller, please check the
malfunctioncodedetailsonpage16andx
the malfunction. After that, push and hold
the RESET button for 5 seconds.
Then make sure to perform a test run again.
• After test run is completed, If there is no
malfunction code on the display of the
remote controller, the unit can perform
normal operation 3 minutes later.
6. Be sure to attach the front panel of the outdoor unit after test run is completed.
[About test run]
• If the system is started within 12 minutes after turning on
the power supply using the remote controller, H2P will light
up and the compressor will not operate.
Before operating, always check whether the symbols indicated
on the LED display are those in the table under 10-1 Powering
on – test run 2.
• In order to ensure uniform refrigerant distribution, it may take up
to around 10 minutes for the compressor to start up after the
unit starting operation. This is not malfunction.
• Be sure to perform malfunction check for all indoor units.
After completing test run, operate the system normally with the
remote controller.
• Test run cannot be performed when the unit is in other modes
such as refrigerant recycling mode.
• Never perform test run with suction pipe thermistor (R2T),
discharge pipe thermistor (R3T) and pressure sensor (S1NPH,
S1NPL) removed. Failure to do so will result in compressor
damaged.

• The compressor will not restart in about 5 minutes even if the
ON/OFF button of the remote controller is pressed.
• When the system operation is stopped by the remote controller,
the outdoor unit may continue operating for future 1 minute at
maximum.
• If any check operation was not performed through test run at
