Davone Ray User manual

Davone
Ray, the manual

WELCOME
and thank you for choosing Davone to bring music to your home. Davone stands for combining traditional
Danish hand craftsmanship with sound quality of the highest calibre. Therefore it is worth taking care with
the set up of your system. In this manual you will find instructions for how to connect, position, maintain and
warrant this loudspeaker.
Should you have any questions that you feel have not been answered, feel free to contact your dealer, your
local Davone distributor or the Davone staff in Denmark.

STAND ASSEMBLY AND CABINET MOUNTING
The stands are packaged separate from the loudspeaker cabinets. For assembly of the stands and the
mounting of the loudspeaker cabinet to the stand, follow the instructions included in the stand packaging.
PLACEMENT
WARNINGS
a) This loudspeaker may not be placed close to a heat source, or in direct sunlight. Excessive
drying of the wood and leather could occur, eventually damaging the cabinet and drying out,
cracking and fading of the leather.
b) The air humidity must be like a normal living room, between 40-70%
c) Make sure that the loudspeakers stand firmly on the floor
d) Do not sit on the loudspeaker cabinet.
FLOOR PLACEMENT
At the bottom of the stand you will find 4 M6 mounts. These can be used to mount spikes. This will place
the Ray cabinet firm on the ground which will result in a more precise bass reproduction. Be careful,
spikes can easily damage your floor. In case the stand is directly placed on a scratch sensitive floor, it is
recommended to apply felt or rubber at the bottom of the stand for floor protection.
ROOM ACOUSTICS
When listening to music, part of the sound from the loudspeaker is reaching our ears directly. The rest is
reflected via the walls, floor, ceiling, furniture etc. These reflections play an important role in our perception
of the sound quality. Finding the optimal placement for your loudspeakers is all about tuning the reflected
sound by changing loudspeaker position, listening position and, if needed, changing the room acoustics.

POSITIONING
You probably have a position for your loudspeakers in mind. Start with this position and try to position the
loudspeakers not too close to a corner (>0.5m), and between 1.5m and 3 m apart. For the listening
position we recommend in the middle in front of the speakers, a distance away from the speakers a little
over the actual gap between them.
CONNECTING
With all equipment turned off, please check the connections on your loudspeaker cable. You now have the
following two possibilities:
1. (recommended) spade type connector: rotate the speaker terminal knob counter clockwise
and mount the + and - spade connector simultaneously in between the knob and the speaker
terminal base. Tighten the speaker terminal knob firmly by rotating clockwise.
2. no connector: rotate the speaker terminal knob counter clockwise. Remove the cable isolation
for about 10-15mm. Bend halve of the wire strands around the left and the other halve around
the right side of the copper terminal piece. Do this for the + and - cable endings simultaneously
and tighten the knob firmly by rotating clockwise.
A tie rap mount is provided in the stand base to enable to hide the loudspeaker cable out of sight. With the
cable connected to the loudspeaker terminal, guide the cable downward the stand, and tighten it to the
stand base with the tie rap. Note: the provided tie rap can not be released without cutting it.
CONNECT TO YOUR AUDIO AMPLIFIER
Ensure that positive terminals on the speaker (marked +) are connected to the positive output terminal on
the amplifier. The negative terminals on the speaker (marked – ) should be connected to the negative
output terminal on the amplifier. With the cable securely connected to amplifier and loudspeaker, you can
switch on your audio amplifier. If you are satisfied with the sound quality, you have now successfully
installed your Davone Ray loudspeakers. If not, in the next section you can find recommendations how to
improve.

FINE TUNING
•Booming bass: move the speakers further from the walls. Conversely, moving the speakers
closer to the walls will increase the volume of bass.
•Uneven loudness with frequency: typically in bass range: make small changes to the position
of the speakers or the listening position. The presence and position of large pieces of furniture
can also have an influence.
•Uneven stereo image: ensure that the immediate surroundings of each speaker are similar in
acoustic character. For example, the same distance to walls, same distance to soft furnishings
and curtains, etc
•Poor focus in stereo image: try moving the speakers closer together or angling them inward or
outward.
•The sound is too bright: increasing the amount of soft furnishing in the room (heavier curtains
for example) may help balance the sound. Conversely, reducing the amount of soft furnishing
may help brighten a dull sound.
If you are not satisfied with the sound image after these changes, try moving the listening position or
locating the speakers along a different wall and repeat the above.

MAINTENANCE
All surfaces usually only require dusting. If you wish to use an aerosol or other cleaner, first test a small
area. Some cleaning products may damage the surfaces. Avoid products that are abrasive, or contain
acid, alkali or anti-bacterial agents. Spray aerosols onto the cleaning cloth, not directly onto the
loudspeaker. The grille fabric may be cleaned with a normal clothes brush. Do not to clean the leather
surfaces with products that are not specifically designed for leather.
