Battery precautions and warnings
The DI-50 DI box comes with a 9 V battery. Due to the hazardous substances of a battery precautions must
be met in order to use this battery and the product in which it is installed to safely.
CAUTION
Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced.
Replace only with the same or equivalent type of battery.
Do not expose batteries to excessive heat such as sunshine fire and the like.
Do not leave batteries in an extremely high-temperature environment as this may cause explosions or
leakage of flammable liquids or gas.
Do not burn batteries do not place batteries in a hot oven and do not crush or cut batteries as this may
cause explosions.
Do not subject batteries to extremely low air pressure (high altitudes) as this may cause explosions or
leakage of flammable liquids or gas.
When equipment is not used for an extended period of time (e.g. a few months) batteries should be
removed.
Instantly remove empty batteries from the equipment.
Do not store loose batteries or carry them in your pocket or purse. Contact with metal objects like coins and
keys etc. may cause them to leak rupture or short-circuit.
Keep batteries out of reach of children.
Recycling:
Do not dispose of batteries in general household waste. Batteries can contain substances that may harm the
environment. If they are properly recycled used batteries are a valuable source of reusable materials.
Contact your local government for information on battery disposal.

Use of t e device
The Devine DI-50 is an active DI box used to transform unbalanced high impedance audio signals to
balanced audio signals. This makes the signal more suitable to travel long distances to mixing consoles or
audio interfaces. By doing this the chance of audio disturbance and unwanted noise is decreased
significantly.
The Devine DI-50 is a battery powered device and requires a 9V battery (like the one which is included in
delivery) or phantom power to operate properly. Because of the battery powered and phantom powered
design no additional bulky power adapters are needed on stage or where you wish to use it. Furthermore
this type of powered device is more likely to keep the volume and quality of the audio signal on an optimal
level compared to DI boxes which are equipped with passive circuitry.
The DI-50 will work on a standard 9V battery and will work for several hours. Once the electronics of the DI-
50 notice that phantom power from a mixer or audio interface is present the 9V circuitry will be disconnected
and the device will automatically switch to phantom powered operating mode. Of course the device can also
be used without battery installed if it will only be used in combination with a device capable of supplying
phantom power.
The phantom power voltage may have a value between +18V to +48 V DC in order for the DI-50 to work
properly. If the correct phantom power voltage is present the Power LED will be lit continuously.
The lifespan of a battery installed in the DI-50 may vary as the battery characteristics are different for each
manufacturer. The included battery is only meant for testing purposes (testing the product upon arrival
practicing) and should be replaced for a new one when using the device for critical applications such as
recording or live performance.
The DI-50 is equipped with a 6.35 mm TS jack input and an unbalanced 3-pin XLR input suitable for devices

such as electric guitars (mono) keyboard signals etc.
A parallel output is available to transfer the signal to other equipment. For example if you wish to connect a
keyboard to a PA system but you also wish to use a stage monitor the link output could be sent directly to a
stage monitor for the keyboard player.
The various signal sources such as guitars or keyboards also feature other signal impedances. To
compensate for the different input impedances an attenuator is provided which can decrease the level of the
incoming signal. Choose between an attenuation of –0 dB or -20 dB.
When connecting the balanced output to your mixing console audio interface or other processing equipment
you will almost instantly see which attenuation works best.
Devine recommends to start with -20 dB attenuation. This way you will start with the least powerful volume
level possible and you can see on your mixing console if the signal is strong enough. If not you can switch
the attenuation to -0 dB and see if the signal is strong enough but not overpowering the inputs on your
processing equipment.
Some equipment such as the power adapters from keyboards link-connected amplifiers or the pickups of
electric guitars can cause unwanted noise and hums. To eliminate these problems a ground lift is available.
The ground lift disconnects the connection between the ground of the balanced signal the housing and the
ground of the incoming and outgoing input/link signals. If no audio-problems are present the ground
connection does not need to be lifted.
The balanced output sends out a balanced microphone level signal suitable for connecting to the
microphone inputs of a PA-mixer audio interface or other equipment provided with microphone preamp
circuits.
To install the included 9 V battery or a new battery once the battery has been used up untighten the silver
coloured knob which is attached to the battery compartment. By loosening this knob the battery cover will
open and grant you access to the battery itself. When installing a new battery the battery needs to be
connected to the contacts which are presented within. Only when a noticable 'click' can be heard the
contacts of the battery are in place. The battery contacts and the cable contacts can only be connected in
one particular way.
If the battery is connected it can be slided into the compartment. If it is in place the compartment can be
closed and tightened by turning the knob clockwise.
Practical extra’s
The housing of the DI-50 is useful in different ways. For example the shape of the housing makes it possible
to stack several units on top of each other thus saving valuable studio or stage space.
In addition to this the lifted product design creates space underneath the DI box for cables. This way cables
pulled to and from the DI box as well as other types of cable can be positioned underneath it thus creating a
neat appearance in situations where this is required.
