•For AC systems, if power needs to be removed from this product, you must
disconnect the power cord; therefore, the socket-outlet shall be installed near
the equipment and shall be easily accessible.
•For DC systems, additional readily accessible disconnect devices, like circuit
breakers or power switches, must be incorporated in the building installation
wiring.
•Warning – This system may contain more than one power supply. Disconnect
all power supplies before servicing.
•Power supply: Hazardous voltage, current, and energy levels are present inside the
power supply enclosure.
•Devices and cables: Hazardous electrical conditions may be present on power,
telephone, and communication cables. Turn off the BorderNet 4000 SBC and
disconnect telecommunications systems, networks, modems, and the power cord
attached to the BorderNet 4000 SBC before opening it. Otherwise, personal injury or
equipment damage can result.
•Maintenance: There are no user-serviceable parts inside the BorderNet 4000 SBC.
Only technically qualified personnel approved by Dialogic should perform service and
maintenance tasks.
•Avoid injury: Lifting the BorderNet 4000 SBC and attaching it to the rack is a two-
person job. If needed, use an appropriate lifting device.
•Electrostatic Discharge Protection (EDP): Use proper ESD protection.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protective straps, shoes, or mats must be used when
working with electronic components. Electrostatic discharge from your body can
damage integrated circuits during installation.
•DC systems: For DC systems, each unit should be on its own branch circuit. The
over-current protection device of the branch circuit must be rated a maximum of 30
A. The DC power supply of this equipment is fitted with a DC fuse rated 30A.
•DC Power Supply Wiring: Only wires rated minimum 12 AWG and VW-1 or FT-1
are to be used to connect to the DC power source.
•Uneven loading: Use caution when mounting the equipment in the rack so that a
hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.
•Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries
according to the battery manufacturer’s instructions.
•For AC input version, this product is equipped with a three-wire grounding type plug,
a plug having a third (grounding) pin. This plug is intended to fit only into a
grounding type power outlet. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the
plug into the outlet, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not
defeat the safety purpose of the grounding type plug. Do not use a 3-to-2 prong
adapter at the receptacle. Use of this type adapter may result in risk of electrical
shock and/or damage to this product.

14
CAUTION: Boards with fiber interfaces contain Class 1 laser devices. Class 1 lasers are not
considered to be hazardous. All adjustments have been made at the factory prior to
shipment of the devices. No maintenance or alteration to the device is required. Do not
tamper with or modify the performance of the device.

6. Installing the Rack Mount Kit
When mounting the BorderNet 4000 SBC, follow these requirements:
•Elevated operating ambient: If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly,
the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than
room ambient. Therefore, consideration should be given to installing the equipment
in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) of
40℃.
•Reduced air flow: Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the
amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.
•Mechanical loading: Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a
hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.
•Circuit overloading: Consideration should be given to the connection of the
equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits might
have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of
equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.
Recommended power supply wiring for -48Vdc is minimum 12 AWG.
•Reliable earthing: Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be
maintained. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than
direct connections to the branch circuit (for example, use of power strips). Only
minimum 12 AWG wire is suitable for use as earthing cable.
•Rack Depth: The minimum rack depth is 600mm (24 inches). In addition, four-post
racks must have at least 20 inches between holes in order to bolt in the rail.
Before you install the BorderNet 4000 SBC, you must install a rack mount kit to support the
server in the rack.
The BorderNet 4000 SBC comes with a tool-less rail mount system and a conversion kit so
that the tool-less system can be used in a rack with either square holes or M5 round holes.
The round hole conversion kit uses M5 screws for mounting the adapter to the rack.
The rack mount kit is used only with a four-post rack and cannot be used with a two-post
rack. Both kits may contain extra hardware.
