Exchange of the Built-In Grinder

Dear Customer,
this updated built-in grinder EK11b for the KE 640, KE 640 Vario espres-
so grinders ensures you high quality espresso grinding due to the fol-
lowing improvements:
- Brass-aluminium thread for the grind adjustment. Therefore a
blockage of the thread can be prevented.
- New spout ensures better dosing of ground coffee into the portafil-
ter and very precise dosing repetition accuracy shot by shot.
- Redesigned spout cover makes cleaning easier and is more robust
against deformation and misplacement.
Please follow the instructions below for a safe and correct exchange
of the built-in grinders.

For the exchange of the built-in grinders, please follow this manual
closely.
1. Loosen the safety screw that blocks the hopper. Close the hopper
slider and grind all remaining coffee beans out of the discs. Take
off the hopper by turning it anti-clockwise and lifting it off the bayo-
net.

2. Switch off the grinder and pull the mains plug.
3. Carefully lay the grinder on its side. Remove the three screws un-
der the base plate. Reposition the grinder on its rubber feet.
4. Remove the lid safety screw and turn the grind adjustment to
coarse. Lift off the lid from the grinder.

5. Loosen the motor’s plug and socket. Carefully lift the built-in grind-
er out of the body.
6. Vacuum-clean the grinder body. Do not damage any cable or elec-
trical board.
7. Carefully insert the new built-in grinder with the brass ring into the
body. Make sure its feet slide into the slots in the base plate and
that the spout fits into the tube in the body.
8. Reconnect the motor’s plug and socket. Carfully secure the con-
nection in the back of the body away from the disc casing.
9. There are two factory-made red marks on the brass ring of the
built-in grinder:
Left red mark 1: Zero grind adjustment, finest setting with minimal
distance between the discs just before touching
Right red mark 2: Grind adjustment for fitting the lid, which is put on
at the coarsest setting.

Never turn the grind adjustment clock-wise further-
than the left red mark 1. The discs could get dama-
ged due to touching and abrasion.
Make sure, the index mark on the disc casing cover
always points to the right red mark 2 before replac-
ing the lid.

10. Replace the grinder’s lid on the body and adjust to grind adjustment
8-10. Fasten the lid safety screw.
Note: Do not place the lid in any position and then
turn. The inner setting will be misplaced. Hold the
lid above the body in the correct position before
lowering and pushing it on the body.

11. Carefully lay the grinder on its side. Reassemble the three screws
under the base plate. Reposition the grinder on its rubber feet.
12. Replace the hopper in the bayonet and open the hopper slider. Re-
fasten the safety screw for the hopper.
