Docma Srl, based in Verona, manufactures agricultural-forestry machinery: wood-splitters, log-split-
ters and portable forest winches.
The manufacturing process is completed when the machine is commissioned: this ensures a superior
quality product with high reliability. Each model is manufactured entirely using Italian-made compo-
nents.
TheDocmalog-splittercanbesuppliedbasedonspecicuserrequirements:withelectricmotor,dou-
ble pump, for power cultivators, for tractors, with combustion engine, with electric motor and tractor
connection, with hydraulic connection hoses.
Due to continuous technical evolution, Docma Srl reserves the right to make changes to the machine
at any time and without notice.

1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION
In this manual the term “machine” refers to the various models of log-splitter.
1.1 MANUFACTURER
Docma Srl has extensive experience in the construction of machinery for forestry applications and for
cuttingandsplittingrewood.
1.2 SERVICE
For any requirements regarding the use or maintenance of the machine or to order spare parts, custo-
mers should contact an authorised service centre, or alternatively Docma Srl directly, specifying the
machineidenticationdatashownontheratingplate(Fig.1).
1.3 CE MARK
The machine is built in compliance with the relevant EU directives applicable at the time it is introduced
into the market.
1.4 WARRANTY
The warranty on the components of the machine is valid from the date shown on the delivery docu-
ments, invoice or receipt:
►
24 months on the mechanical parts.
►
The warranty, at the manufacturer’s sole discretion, only covers the parts replaced, excluding
labour and transport costs.
►
Any defective components must be kept by the person or persons authorised to make the repla-
cements, in order to be checked by the manufacturer.
►
The place of jurisdiction for any disputes is Verona.
The warranty does not cover any damage to the machine caused by:
►
transport and/or movement;
►
improper or unskilled use of the machine by the user
►
use with components that have been tampered with and/or are faulty
►
failure to perform properly the maintenance operations described in this manual
►
faults and/or breakages not due to the operation of the machine
►
damage to the electrical components for failing to observe the VDE - DIN 0100, DIN 57113 / VDE
0113 electrical standards.
1.5 CUSTOMER DUTIES
An area must be provided for installation that is suitable for the dimensions of the machine and the
hoisting equipment used (e.g. bridge crane, crane). To ensure stability and safety the working area
must be levelled.
The machine is delivered complete and does not have any special system or environmental requi-
rements. Unless otherwise agreed contractually, the customer is normally responsible for providing:
►
a suction system for the wood chips/dust when the machine is used in closed places;
►
mains power supply, 220 Volt or 380 Volt.
All the connections must be in compliance with the VDE and DIN standards; only
use H 07 RN connection cables.

1.6 STRUCTURE OF THE MANUAL
The customer must carefully read the information contained in this manual, as the correct preparation,
installation and use of the machine represent the basis for satisfying manufacturer-customer relations.
The various models of machines are described in the following pages.
All models with electric motor may be single-phase or three-phase.
1.6.1 SCOPE AND CONTENTS
This manual supplies the customer with complete information concerning correct use of the machine
and explanations on how to use it autonomously in the safest possible way. It includes information
relating to the technical aspects, safety, operation, machine shutdown, maintenance and spare parts.
If there is any doubt regarding the correct interpretation of the instructions, contact the manufacturer
for the necessary explanations.
Before performing any work on the machine, the operators and the qualified techni-
cians must carefully read the instructions contained in this publication.
Some figures in this manual may not correspond perfectly to your machine; the
descriptions and operating procedures are nonetheless still valid.
1.6.2 INTENDED USERS OF THIS MANUAL
The manual is addressed to the user and the technicians authorised for the maintenance of the machine.
Users must not perform any operations reserved for the maintenance personnel or
qualified technicians.
The manufacturer is not liable for any damage deriving from failure to observe this warning. The autho-
rised reseller is responsible for providing the user with the manual at the moment of sale and ensuring
writtenconrmationofitsreceipt.
1.6.3 SAFEKEEPING
The instruction manual must be kept near the machine, inside a special container and, above all, pro-
tected against liquids or other substances that may affect its legibility.
1.6.4 SYMBOLS USED

2.2 ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The machine must be positioned outdoors on level ground, or if required inside a building, as long as
thisiswelllit,ventilatedandhasasolidandleveloor.
For models , an effective engine exhaust gas discharge system is required.
2.3 LIGHTING
The lighting in the workplace must be compliant with the laws in force in the country where the machine
is used and must in any case ensure good visibility in every position (recommended 300 lx); there must
notbeareasinshadowordangerousreections.
2.4 VIBRATIONS
If the machine is used in accordance with the instructions for correct operation, the vibrations produced
will not create situations of danger.
2.5 NOISE EMISSIONS
The machine is designed and built in such a way as to reduce the level of noise emissions at the source.
The level of noise during operation, excluding models , is very low (< 90 dB) and consequently no
precautions are necessary; nonetheless, it is recommended to use earmuffs for hearing protection.
2.6 OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The machine is powered by the connection to the power supply, as indicated in the following diagram:

3.0 SAFETY
International safety standards require the customer to read and understand this
manual before using the machine and to observe the safety standards described
herein.
If in doubt, contact the manufacturer’ s qualified personnel, who will be happy to
help. Failure to observe the safety rules may cause accidents during the use and
maintenance of the machine.
3.1 GENERAL WARNINGS
The manufacturer is not liable for any damage to people and/or things due to failure
to read or implement the instructions contained in this manual.
The user must observe the following warnings:
►
Make sure that the mains power supply system complies with the standards in force and corre-
sponds to the voltage, power, frequency of the machine; the machine must be earthed.
The extension cord used must have a minimum cross-section of 2.5 mm² and a ma-
ximum length of 15 m; a Schuko-16A socket is required.
►
Check that the cables, extensions and power sockets used are in good condition and stan-
dards compliant; these must not cause hindrance to the operator.

►
Neverstopthemachinebypullingouttheplug:rstturntheswitchoff,thenunplugthepower
cable.
►
Use appropriate containers for collecting chips and other waste material produced during proces-
sing. Avoid the excessive accumulation of processed material in the machine’ s working area; keep
the machine and the working area clean and tidy.
►
Do not use the machine if you are not in perfect mental-physical conditions.
►
Wear suitable clothing that does not hinder movements and/or cannot get trapped in the moving
parts of the machine. Wear the required personal protective equipment for the operations to be
performed.
►
Do not remove or bypass the safety systems on the machine.
►
Do not remove or modify the plates applied to the machine.
►
Whenusingthemachine,paymaximumcaretoavoidinjuriestothengersduetocrushingbetwe-
en the wedge and the log of wood.
►
Check that the log to be split does not contain iron wires or nails that may damage the machine.
►
The log must always be split along the grain; to avoid damage to the machine, never place the log
crossways.
►
Intheeventofres,donotusewater:disconnectthepowersupplyandonlyusemulti-purpose
powder extinguishers.
►
Check that the machine is properly connected to the three-point hitch and that the cor-
responding safety pins are always inserted.
►
When manoeuvring, take care not to cause accidents or damage to others and to the
machine itself.
►
The drive shaft must only be connected and disconnected when the tractor engine is off.
►
Only use a drive shaft that is approved and suitable for the use of the log-splitter; this must be
equipped with the complete original safety guards.
►
Do not stand in the area where the drive shaft is rotating during operation.
►
Check that the tractor output RPM does not exceed the value shown on the machine’ s
rating plate (max 540 RPM).
►
As regards the warnings on the use of the drive shaft, follow the instructions shown in the spe-
cicinstructionmanual(enclosedwiththedriveshaft).
►
Do not operate the machine in closed places. The exhaust gas is harmful (it contains
carbon monoxide) and may cause loss of consciousness and consequently danger for the opera-
tor. If having to work in a closed or sheltered environment, make sure there is suitable aeration and
that the exhaust gas is not breathed in.
►
During refuelling the engine must be off.
No modifications may be made to the machine !!!
►
As regards the warnings relating to operation of the combustion engine, see the instructions
providedinthespecicinstructionmanual(enclosedwiththemachine).
►
Before performing maintenance operations or if the wedge gets stuck in the log, disconnect the
powersupplyfromthemachine,specically:
►
Switch off the tractor.
►
Unplug the power supply.
►
Switch off the motor/engine.
Do not leave the machine unsupervised without having disconnected the power supply.

3.2 SPECIFIC WARNINGS
3.2.1 ELECTRIC CURRENT
Conventionally there are two types of accidental contact of the human body with live circuits:
►
DIRECT: with two phase wires; one phase wire plus the earth wire.
►
INDIRECT: with a live circuit due to faulty insulation; with two points having different potential on
an object carrying current (step potential).
3.2.2 EFFECTS OF ELECTRIC CURRENT ON THE HUMAN BODY
The effects depend on current intensity, contact duration and the path travelled by the current (hand
to hand, hand to foot, etc.).
The average resistance of the human body is conventionally accepted as being around 3000 ohm
(however this is highly variable).
►
Tetanic muscle contractions: this occurs when the victim remains “frozen” to the circuit: the
victim loses control over the affected body part, usually the hand, and cannot release his/her grip;
ifcontactcontinues,evenlowintensitycurrentcanbedangerous.“Letgocurrent”isdenedasthe
highest current value at which the person is capable of releasing his/her grip.
►
Respiratory arrest: current that exceeds the let-go current limits. Intervene immediately after the
accident, at most within 2/3 minutes.
►
Ventricular fibrillation: this involves uncoordinated contraction of the cardiac muscle of the heart,
especially the ventricles, making them quiver and causing arrhythmia; this is a medical emergency
that requires prompt hospital treatment. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is used as basic life sup-
portintervention,howeveradebrillatorisessentialforeffectiveemergencytreatment.
►
Burns: at high current values, the heat produced is greater than in the cases described above,
causing destruction of nerve tissue and arteries.
►
Other damage:evenweakcurrentcanoftencauseinvoluntarybodymovementsandreexesthat
over time may cause bodily harm.
The above description is provided to demonstrate the importance, when working with electrically-
powered machinery, of using xed safeguards and personal protective equipment: insulating oor
covers, dielectric footwear and electrical safety gloves.
3.3 INTENDED USE
The machine is designed and manufactured exclusively for splitting wood.
It is intended exclusively for manual operation; it is suitable for household, trade, industrial and farm
use.
The machine must only be used by one operator.
3.4 IMPROPER USE
The machine must not be used:
►
For purposes other than splitting wood.
►
Inatmosphereswiththeriskofre.

3.5 DANGER ZONE
The zone where the machine operates is called the “working area”. The machine’ s “danger zone”
includes the areas affected by the moving parts and the immediate vicinity.
3.6 PROTECTION DEVICES
Themachineisttedwithguardsforprotectingthepeopleexposedtorisksduetothemovingparts
(log-splitting wedge) and the ejection of processing material (chips and sawdust).
3.7 STOP FUNCTIONS

3.8 SAFE WORKING PROCEDURES
The machine is designed and built with the aim of eliminating all the risks related to its use; none-
theless, the risks due to possible accidental contacts with the moving parts cannot be eliminated
entirely.
To minimize the consequences of such dangers, the following instructions must be follo-
wed:
►
While working, the operator must keep his/her hands on the special handles (5 Fig. 2).
►
During maintenance operations the machine must be disconnected from the power supply (see 3.4
IMPROPER USE).
3.9 RESIDUAL RISKS
During the normal processing cycle and during maintenance, the operator is exposed to a number of
residual risks that, due to the nature of the operations, cannot be completely eliminated:
►
Risk of ejection of fragments due to contact of the wedge with the wood: wear safety glasses
and protective garments (see 3.10 SAFETY SIGNS).
►
Risk of inhalation of sawdust:wearlteringbreathingmasksforsoliddust(see3.10SAFETY
SIGNS).
►
Risk of entanglement:weartight-ttinggarments,keepasafedistancefromthedriveshaft
working area when this is connected to the tractor, even if not actually rotating (see 3.10 SAFETY
SIGNS).
►
Risk of the piece being processed dropping: wear safety footwear (see 3.10 SAFETY SIGNS).
►
Risk due to use of the machine with excessively large or heavy pieces to be split (see 5.3 START-
UP).
►
Risk of crushing/impact:themachinemustoperateonaperfectlyatandstablesurface.

3.10 SAFETY SIGNS

tion, are shown here below and in Fig. 4.

The warning labels with safety indications must not be removed, covered or da-
maged; if damaged, they must immediately be ordered from the manufacturer and
replaced.

4.0 INSTALLATION
4.1 TRANSPORT
Transportbyvehiclemustbeperformedbyqualiedpersonnel.Themachinemustbetransportedin
such a way as to avoid any damage to the components.
Before transporting the machine, a number of operations must be performed:
►
Check the weight of the machine; the dimensions and the volume may be misleading, see the
rating plate on the machine (Mass) (Fig.1).
Check that the capacity of the hoisting equipment is suitable for the weight and the
dimensions of the machine. Check the capacity of any hoisting ropes or straps.
►
Strap the machine stably and safely, running two cables crossing over each other underneath the
frame, so as to ensure a balanced load.
When hoisting the machine and moving it overhead, make sure there are no people
transiting in the immediate vicinity.
►
Load the machine onto the transport vehicle and make sure it is anchored securely so as to avoid
problems during transport.
The same rules for loading the machine onto the transport vehicle must also be
observed when unloading it.
►
Themachinemustbetransportedintheworkingconguration,betterstillinthespecialpackaging.
►
The machine must be handled manually.
The machine must be protected against all possible knocks and stress according to
the type of transport. Damage to the machine caused during transport and handling
is not covered by the WARRANTY. Repairs or replacements of damaged parts are
the customer’ s responsibility.
4.2 POSITIONING
To cover small distances and position the machine for operation, securely hold the two handles (1 - 2
Fig. 5), tilt the machine downwards carefully and push or pull it by rolling on the two wheels.
The machine must be positioned as near as possible to the logs of wood to be split,
so as to simplify the subsequent operations.
Clear space must be left around the machine to allow unhindered and safe opera-
tion.

4.3 HITCHING TO THE TRACTOR
►
Beforehitching,positionthemachineonrmandlevelground.
►
Bring the lifting arms of the tractor to the same height as the corresponding hitch points on the
machine (1-2 Fig. 6).
►
Hitch the parts together using the special pins, and insert the safety pins.
►
Connect the third hitch point of the tractor to the machine (3 Fig. 6), insert the special pin and
secure it using the safety pin.
►
Tighten the lifting arms so as to ensure machine stability and avoid dangerous swinging move-
ments.
The operations described above must be performed with the tractor’s power takeoff
disengaged and engine off.
►
Connectthetractor’spowertakeofftothemachine(4Fig.6)usingasuitabledriveshaftttedwith
guards.
The user must only use drive shafts with CE mark, complete with declaration of con-
formity and instruction manual. Read and carefully observe the instructions sup-
plied by the manufacturer of the drive shaft.
4.4 PRELIMINARY STEPS
Before starting the machine, a series of checks are required for the purpose of preventing errors or
accidents when starting operation.
►
Check that the machine has not been damaged during transport.
►
Check the free movement and free rotation of all the moving parts.
►
Check the hydraulic oil level and if necessary top up (see 6.5.1 CHECKS) using
AGIP SP 7735-7736 oil or equivalent.
Never use the machine without or with too little hydraulic oil in the system.
This may cause serious damage to the pump.

►
Check that the power cable is correctly connected to the mains power supply.
►
Adjust the opening of the log-splitting wedge using the special device (see 4.5.1 ADJUSTING THE
TRAVEL OF THE WEDGE).
►
Check correct oil level in the combustion engine and make sure there is enough fuel in the tank.
►
Check the correct coupling of the machine to the three-point hitch on the tractor.
►
Check the correct insertion of the drive shaft in both spline shafts.
►
Makesurethequickcouplingsareproperlyconnectedtothehydraulicttingsonthetractor.
►
Check the free movement of the control levers (5 Fig. 2).
►
Press the right handle on the machine downward using the left hand, and then use the other
hand to press the switch (1 Fig. 3), wait around 2 seconds and then release the handle; the machi-
newillstartwithoutuidhammerduetoexcesspressure.
4.5 ADJUSTMENTS
4.5.1 ADJUSTING THE TRAVEL OF THE WEDGE
If the length of the logs is less than the maximum travel of the wedge, the working travel can be decre-
ased so as to reduce working time.
Before adjustment, position one of the shorter logs on the workbench, move the wedge near the log
and stop the machine just before making contact (around 10 cm). Then proceed as follows:
SF60 - 80 - 81:
►
Unhook the chain (1 Fig. 7) and hook it on another ring so that it’s slightly tighter.
SF100 - 110:
►
Unscrew the knob (2 Fig. 7) and move the block (3 Fig. 7);
►
Tighten the knob (2 Fig. 7)

4.5.2 ADJUSTING THE WORKBENCH (SF81 - 100 - 110)
Somemodelsarettedwithamoveableworkbenchthatshouldbepositionedatthebestworking
height, depending on the length of the logs being split.
To do this, proceed as follows:
►
Remove the safety pin (1 Fig. 8).
►
Remove the pin (2 Fig. 8).
►
Hold the workbench securely with both hands (3 Fig. 8), remove it and place it in the desired
position.
►
Insert the pin (2 Fig. 8).
►
Insert the safety pin (1 Fig. 8).
