Introduction
The DXE-MBV-ATU-1 Multi-Band Vertical Remote Antenna Tuner Add-on Kit for 43 Foot
Multi-band Vertical Antennas is a remotely mounted automatic tuner system which also features
proper feedline isolation for a 43 foot vertical antenna. The DXE-MBV-ATU-1 is the perfect
solution for the DX’er running modest power (200 watts maximum) who wants maximum
performance on any 43 foot tall multi-band vertical antenna. Now you can hear and work the weak
ones. Just install on your vertical antenna mount and start operating. NO MANUAL TUNING!
Now you can have full performance 80-10 meters with no mismatch coaxial cable loss! A no
compromise system! A Bias Tee is included with this special package for supplying the 12 Vdc
power through the coaxial cable from your radio shack to the remote tuner.
This automatic antenna tuning system, mounted at the base of a ground mounted vertical
antenna works on all DX Engineering, Zero-Five, MFJ and Hy-Gain 43 foot vertical antennas.
Also works on your own vertical antenna homebrew creation!

DXE-RADP-3 Radial Plate:
Made from Laser Cut Stainless Steel with 20 Sets of Stainless Steel Radial Attachment
Hardware. The DX Engineering Radial Plate (patented) is meant for those of you having a
vertical antenna and want an easy, neat and effective way to connect those essential radial
wires to your antenna system for the highest efficiency and strongest signals.
DXE-SSVC-2P Stainless Steel V-Clamp for steel pipe:
One required for mounting the optional DXE-RADP-3 Radial Plate to the antenna mounting pipe of 1" to 2"
outside diameter. This V-Clamp is made in one size that fits Steel tubing or pipe from 1 to 2'' O.D. as used in
antenna construction. The supplied V-bolt is long enough to attach tubing to thick plates and is made with
anti-corrosive properties. The special Stainless Steel saddle has serrated teeth will clamp to the
pipe securely by biting into the surface. For this reason, it is not recommended for softer aluminum
tubing or pipe. Ideal for fastening a radial plate and antenna mounting to a steel pipe.

DXE-PSW-12D1A - AC Adapter 12VDC/1000mA -
The DXE-PSW-12D1A is an AC Wall Transformer Adapter to furnish 12 Volts DC at 1000
mA from 110 Vac 60 Hz input, fused output. It features a standard 2.1 mm plug connection
for 12 Vdc. Outer connection is GROUND Center Pin is input for +12 VDC.

aluminum tubing, general hardware and copper grounding systems. On bonded metal surfaces Jet-
Lube™SS-30 assures electrical and RF conductivity while preventing oxidation and corrosion.
Surpassing the capabilities of other aluminum anti-oxidants, the wide temperature range of Jet-
Lube™SS-30 prevents long-term drying and caking, and allows easy disassembly and effortless
cleaning of parts. An environmentally preferred thread lubricant and conductive termination

Assembly
Note: The assembly of the DXE-MBV-ATU-1 Multi-Band Vertical Remote Antenna Tuner
Add-on Kit is described in this assembly manual with the use of the optional DX
Engineering Tilt Base, DX Engineering Radial Plate, DX Engineering 43 foot vertical
antenna and a 2" (maximum) OD mounting pipe. Depending on your installation, slight
variations in dimensions may be required.
Note: JTL-12555 Jet-Lube™SS-30 Anti-Oxidant should be used between all antenna element
sections. Jet-Lube™SS-30 is an electrical joint compound to affect a substantial
electrical connection between metal parts such as aluminum tubing or other antenna
pieces. It ensures high conductivity at all voltage levels by displacing moisture and
preventing corrosion or oxidation. Jet-Lube™SS-30 should also be used on all element
clamps and stainless steel threaded hardware to provide good electrical contact,
prevent galling, allow easier disassembly and to ensure proper tightening.
The stainless steel laser cut mounting bracket has eight PEM nuts installed for mounting both the
DXE-FCC050-H05-A Feedline Current Choke and the MFJ-927 IntelliTuner™. There are also two
holes for mounting the ground braid straps and two holes for the DXE-SSVC-2P V-Clamp.

Install the DXE-FCC050-H05-A Feedline Current Choke on the mounting bracket using the four
#6 Hex Head Bolts, four #6 flat washers and four #6 tooth lock washers as shown in Figure 3 .

On the MFJ-927 IntelliTuner™, remove the wing nut, two flat washers and split washer from the
GROUND connection as shown in Figure 4.

Install one of the braided straps on the MFJ-927 IntelliTuner™ GROUND connection as shown in
Figure 5 using the previously removed hardware plus the new #10 stainless steel tooth washer.
Firmly hand tighten the wing nut (do not over tighten using pliers or other means).

Loosen the red connector on the MFJ-927 IntelliTuner™. Install the 14 gage feedline connection
wire (bare wire end) on the , red ANTENNA WIRE connector. Firmly tighten the red connector.

Note: Depending on your antenna installation, you may want to trim the length
of this feedline wire once everything is installed.
Place the MFJ-927 IntelliTuner™ on the mounting bracket. Install four #6 hex head bolts to hold
the MFJ-927 IntelliTuner™ in place on the bracket as shown in Figure 7. The MFJ-927 Remote
IntelliTuner™ is mounted to the bracket this way to make removal easy when making internal tuner
adjustments if needed (refer to the MFJ-927 Remote IntelliTuner™ manual for details). Variations
in the metal mounting bracket on the MFJ-927 may make it appear that the bolt holes do not align
properly with the DX Engineering mounting bracket. The easiest way to mount the MFJ-927 is to
install the two hex head bolts closest to the DXE-FCC050-H05-A Feedline Current Choke first.
Then install the two outboard hex head bolts - you may have to push or pull on the MFJ bracket to
get the holes to align properly.

Install the two Ground Braids on the mounting bracket using two 1" hex head bolts, flat washers,
star washers and hex head nuts as shown in Figure 5. Note the Ground Braid from the MFJ-927
remote IntelliTuner™ is installed on one of the bolts as shown.

The DXE-8XDU002 coaxial cable jumper is connected from the DXE-FCC050-H05-A Feedline
Current Choke SO-239 connector to the MFJ Tuner "Transmit" SO-239 connector as shown in
Figure 9.

Mounting to Vertical Antenna System
The DXE-MBV-ATU-1 Multi-Band Vertical Remote Antenna Tuner Add-on Kit requires the
distance between the bottom of the DXE-TB-3P Tilt Base (included with the DX Engineering 43
foot vertical antennas) and the top surface of the DXE-RADP-3 Radial plate be set at 6-1/2" as
shown in Figure 10.

The orientation or placement of the Tilt Base and Radial Plate on your antenna system may vary
depending on your installation. The distance between the Tilt Base and Radial plate listed allows
room for the remote antenna tuner and allows easy tilting of the antenna. You may require a
modification to the set up depending on your installation. The distance required is to allow room for
the tuner and to allow proper operation of the Tilt Base.

Using the included DXE-SSVC-2P - Stainless Steel V-Clamp, mount the assembly to the antenna
mounting pipe just above the Radial Plate. The standard 1-1/2" galvanized water pipe (with its 1.9"
OD) is just fine for this application and can usually be found at your local home building supply
store. Allow approximately 1/8" to 1/4" gap between Radial Plate Mounting Tab and the Mounting
Bracket as shown in Figure 11.

Attach the two ground braids to the DXE-RADP-3 Radial Plate using hardware supplied with the
Radial Plate as shown in Figure 12.

Once the remote tuner is installed, you'll want to cut the antenna feed wire to
the minimum length required to go between the red binding post on the tuner
and the vertical antenna feedpoint connection which will also allow tilting
without straining the wire. Strip approximately 3/4" of insulation from the bare
end of the antenna feedline wire. The stripped end is attached to the MFJ tuner
using the red binding post as shown in Figure 13. The ring terminal end
connects to your vertical antenna feedpoint connection as shown in Figure 14.

Connect the customer supplied coaxial cable from the transceiver to the DXE-FCC050-H05
Feedline Current Choke as shown in Figure 10. Do not ground the transceiver coaxial cable to the
radial system. Weatherproofing of all coaxial cable PL-259 connections is recommended.

Bias Tee and Operation
The MFJ-4117 Bias Tee (included with the MFJ-927 Tuner) is usually located
inside the radio room and requires a +12 Vdc power source such as the DXE-
PSW-12D1A AC adapter 12VDC/1000ma. Follow the instructions provided by
MFJ for both the Tuner and the Bias Tee. Once the power is applied to the
tuner via the Bias Tee, your vertical antenna system is ready to operate on 80-10
meters.
NOTE:
Review the MFJ-927 Remote IntelliTuner™ manual for a detailed explanation
of the MFJ-927 Remote IntelliTuner™ and the MFJ-4117 Bias Tee operation.
Incorrect installation of the Bias Tee will cause damage to your radio.

DXE-RADP-3 - Radial Plate, Stainless Steel with 20 Sets of SS Radial Attachment Hardware
The DX Engineering Radial Plate is meant for those of you that have or are building a quarter wave vertical antenna
and who want an easy, neat and effective way to connect those essential radial wires and the coax to your vertical
antenna for the lowest takeoff angle and strongest signals. The patented DX Engineering Radial Plate is laser cut
from tough stainless steel so that it has smooth edges, won’t corrode and will always look good. You will be proud
of how good your installation looks. This plate will work perfectly with DX Engineering vertical antennas and most
commercially available vertical antennas such as the Hutsler® BTV series (4-BTV thru the 6-BTV), the SteppIR™
(BiggIR or SmallIR) or one of your own construction

TES-2155 - 3M Temflex™ 2155 Rubber Splicing Tape.
Conformable self-fusing rubber electrical insulating tape. It is designed for low voltage electrical insulating and moisture
sealing applications. For outdoor use, it should be protected from UV deterioration with an overwrap of TES-06132
TES-06132 - Scotch® Super 33+.
Highly conformable super stretchy tape for all weather applications. This tape provides flexibility and easy handling for all
around performance. It also combines PVC backing with excellent electrical insulating properties to provide primary
electrical insulation for splices up to 600V and protective jacketing.

Warranty
All products manufactured by DX Engineering are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a
period of one (1) year from date of shipment. DX Engineering’s sole obligation under these warranties shall be to issue
credit, repair or replace any item or part thereof which is proved to be other than as warranted; no allowance shall be
made for any labor charges of Buyer for replacement of parts, adjustment or repairs, or any other work, unless such
charges are authorized in advance by DX Engineering. If DX Engineering’s products are claimed to be defective in
material or workmanship, DX Engineering shall, upon prompt notice thereof, issue shipping instructions for return to
DX Engineering (transportation-charges prepaid by Buyer). Every such claim for breach of these warranties shall be
deemed to be waived by Buyer unless made in writing. The above warranties shall not extend to any products or parts
thereof which have been subjected to any misuse or neglect, damaged by accident, rendered defective by reason of
improper installation, damaged from severe weather including floods, or abnormal environmental conditions such as
prolonged exposure to corrosives or power surges, or by the performance of repairs or alterations outside of our plant,
and shall not apply to any goods or parts thereof furnished by Buyer or acquired from others at Buyer’s specifications.
In addition, DX Engineering’s warranties do not extend to other equipment and parts manufactured by others except to
the extent of the original manufacturer’s warranty to DX Engineering. The obligations under the foregoing warranties
are limited to the precise terms thereof. These warranties provide exclusive remedies, expressly in lieu of all other
remedies including claims for special or consequential damages. SELLER NEITHER MAKES NOR ASSUMES ANY
OTHER WARRANTY WHATSOEVER, WHETHER EXPRESS, STATUTORY, OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING
WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS, AND NO PERSON IS AUTHORIZED TO ASSUME
FOR DX ENGINEERING ANY OBLIGATION OR LIABILITY NOT STRICTLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
FOREGOING.
