1. Introduction
Our DWA-2000A-SS, designed to serve the purpose of an efficient operation of a wide-area water supply
system as well as of the elimination of its repair and maintenance works, is an instrument to measure SS
density at processes in a water supply system, sewage and waste water system, production line, and so on. It
is a suspended solids (SS) indicator and controller capable of reading and transmitting data received directly
from a measurement sensor.
2. Overview
The DWA-2000A-SS installed with a microprocessor of cutting-edge capacity and specification suitable for the
measurement of suspended substances/ solids (SS) in the field is designed to execute analysis quickly,
accurately, and real time under any types of domestic field processes. Since it can measure activated sludge
in water, suspended solids, or mixed liquor suspended solids consecutively, it will be used to measure the
density of suspended solids and high-density sludge at a wide range of facilities including sewage treatment
plants, livestock and night soil treatment facilities, industrial waste and water treatment plants, to name a few.
The DWA-2000A-SS is installed with all circuits including isolation function necessary for the output of 4-
20mA and transmission of data, which will provide reliable data applicable under any monitoring processes
and controls. Please be advised to get familiar with this instruction manual to make a good use of it when
installing and wiring the instrument in workplaces.
3. Warnings and Cautions
1) Warning
Warning A
■Before installing or inspecting the instrument, please be sure to turn off electricity.
■When wiring the sensor cable, output of electric current, and source power line to the
instrument terminals, be sure to refer to the details stated on page 11 of the manual or to
the inscription of the Input/ Output terminal panel on the reverse side of the Instrument.
Warning B
■Disassembly or alteration of the instrument, which may cause safety accident or failure, are
strictly prohibited
■Avoid installing the instrument at a place where there is damp and corrosion-gaseous or
there is exposed to direct sunlight.
■Avoid a place where there exist strong inductive magnetism and severe vibration produced
by a motor or the like

■Be noted that the accuracy and reliability of measured figures are not guaranteed if the
procedures and methods stated in this instruction manual are not duly observed, in which

10. Calibration
1) ZERO Calibration
Caution
•Make sure whether any flaw or defect is present on the surface of the sensor after the
product is unpacked; if any, feel free to notify us immediately.
•Be sure to execute calibration before operation to adjust the electric characteristics of the
sensor and the instrument.
•Because the sensitivity of the sensor is subject to change over a long period of time, a regular
calibration is necessary
•Clean the surface of the lens of the sensor and dry it completely before calibration
•After preparing a ZERO sample whose SS density is less than 1 mg/l and dipping the sensor into it, carry
out the procedure in the following order:
A press of the MODE key will display CAO sign.
Enter the ZERO Mode by pressing the key
The key carries out the calibration (The whole FND blinks and then the buzzer rings when
completed)
Save the calibration by pressing the key. (When the ZERO calibration is saved, the mode moves to
the SPAN calibration automatically.)
2) SPAN calibration
-Solution calibration: Dip the sensor (measuring part) adequately into a sample solution for calibration
(the solution value can be determined by user.)
-Calibration of sample solutions to be measured (Measurement solution calibration): After installing the
sensor in field samples, input values of water analysis to carry out calibration.
※The order of the sample calibration and the measurement sample calibration is as follows
Press the key twice, the CAS sign will appear.
Enter the SPAN Mode by pressing the key
Move to the next digit to input data (input a known SPAN value)
The press of the key implements the calibration
(The whole FND blinks and then the buzzer goes off when completed)
Save the calibration by pressing the key

11. Measurement of SS
Caution
■Be sure to perform calibration before installation
-When power is initially supplied, SS density values will appear real time on the FND.
-When the RUN lamp blinks, it indicates that analog output (4~20mA) is generating
-When it does not blink, the analog signal is not being produced.
-At the time of entry into MODE function, the analog output (4~20mA) will be put on hold
automatically
12. Measurement of Temperature
1) Compensation of Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC)
-This function should be carried out when the calibration of temperature is needed.
Pressing the key three times will make C-1 Mode appear
The figures will blink when the key is pressed
You can change the temperature by selecting either increase or decrease in temperature and pressing
the key one at a time slowly
When completed, please press the key
2) Input of Manual Temperature Compensation (MTC)
-This function should be carried out when the calibration of temperature is needed.
The C-2 Mode will be displayed when the key is pressed four times
The temperature value will blink when the key is pressed.
Input a value using and keys.
When completing the input of data, press the key
※While the temperature is input on C-2 Mode, the ATC function will come to a stop.

3) Adjustment of magnitude of electrode temperature compensation
-This function should be carried out when a correction is needed according to the temperature
specification of the electrode.
The C-3 Mode will be available when the key is pressed five times
The value will blink when the key is pressed.
Input a value using and keys (compensation per 1oC change)
When completing the input of data, press the key

1) ZERO compensation.
-This function carries out % compensation to a measured result.
The S-1 mode will appear when the key is pressed six times.
The value will blink when the is pressed.
Input a value using and keys.
When the input of data is completed, press the key
2) Coefficient compensation.
-This function carries out % compensation to a measured result.
The S-2 mode will appear when the key is pressed seven times.
The value will blink when the is pressed.
Input a value using and keys.
When the input of data is completed, press the key
3) Setting of damping
-This setting is performed when, at the execution of real-time measurement, severe fluctuations are
present or a delay is required.
-It should be considered at the time of the input that the bigger the input value is, the more the
measurement speed is delayed.
The S-3 mode will appear when the key is pressed eight times.
The value will blink when the is pressed.
Input a value using and keys.
When the input of data is completed, press the key
4) Setting of output at the external contact point
-This function serves to determine the ceiling and floor of SS density values when they are displayed
outside.

You can choose the r-H (upper limit) by pressing the key nine times or the r-L (lower limit) by
pressing it ten times
The value will blink when the is pressed.
Input a value using and keys.
And press the key after inputting the data
5) Setting of analog output
-This function sets the ceiling and floor values when SS density values are output in the analog form
You can choose 0-1 (floor value) by pressing the key eleven times and 0-2 (ceiling value) by
pressing it twelve times
The value will blink when the is pressed.
Input a value using and keys.
And press the key after inputting the data
※The state of output can be seen by the momentary lighting of the RUN lamp in the SS measurement
mode.
6) Setting of cleaning output
-This function serves to set the outputs of the electrode cleaning to be displayed outside.

You can choose CL1 (cleaning period) by pressing the key thirteen times, CL2 (cleaning
duration/ time) by pressing it fourteen times, or CL3 (delay time after cleaning) by pressing it fifteen
times.
The value will blink when the is pressed.
Input a value using and keys. (CL1 cleaning period: the unit is 1 minute; CL2 cleaning
duration: the unit is 1 second; CL3 delay time after cleaning: the unit is 1 second)
And press the key after inputting the data
※When the contact point of cleaning outputs is ON, the RUN lamp continues to be turned on.
If the input data of the cleaning period or the cleaning duration is zero (0), there is no cleaning output.
7) Manual cleaning output
-The cleaning output can be carried out manually.
When the is pressed for 3 seconds, the contact point of cleaning outputs is turned on and then
it will be turned off automatically in 10 seconds.
14. Installation
The body of the instrument is manufactured in accordance with DIN96 standards and can be installed
using parts that come with the device. The detection part can be fixed at a measurement location with
brackets found in the standard parts. When installing the instrument and the detection part, you are advised
to be careful about the followings:
-To avoid a wet and damp place as much as possible
-To avoid a place where corrosive gases are present
-To avoid a place that are exposed to direct sunlight
-To avoid where there are strong inductive magnetism and vibration generated by a motor
-To find a place that is convenient for repairs and maintenances
15. Wiring
-Sensor cable, current output, and power line have to be connected with the terminals on the reverse
side of the instrument as indicated on the Input/ Output indication panel.

-Even though the replacement period of a sensor may differ depending on the on-site circumstances, it is
generally advised to replace it once every 12~36 months.
-When a failure occurs, please contact the store or the maker for after-service.
-A mechanical failure will be subject to free-of-charge repair services for one year; in case of a failure of
the instrument resulting from force-majeure or faults attributable to user, the user is liable for the costs
arising from such repair.

18. Maintenance of the Sensor and Precautions
-The lens of the sensor must be cleaned regularly.
-Be careful not to give shocks or leave scratches on the surface of the lens of the sensor.
-When it is unused for an extended period of time, clean it with clean water and dry it completely before

keeping the instrument.
-In case a relay box is used to extend the cable, make sure of insulation, wiring, contamination, humidity
and so on.
-Since this instrument is likely to be affected characteristically by static induction current from outside, the
grounding is very important for the prevention of factors that hinder the measurement with the
instrument. Even at the place where a perfect grounding is regarded as being established, induced
voltage or potential differences of direct currents or alternating currents may generate through the
electrostatic capacity between instrument and ground or instrument and power sources due to induced
currents from various power sources of a plant facility; consequently, take extra care for the grounding of
the instrument in order to eliminate measurement errors.
-It should be noted that accurate indications may not be obtained in case the dedicated cable to connect
the instrument to the electrode is soaked with moisture or is contaminated when handling the wiring
connection of the electrode cable.
-The use of a general-purpose cable or an extension with electric tape in the middle instead of an
instrument-only cable should be avoided; a relay box is recommended.
19. Quality Assurance and After-Service
19.1 Quality assurance
(1) The instrument comes with one year guaranty from the date of purchase, and all costs and expenses for
after-services performed in connection with mechanical failures of the instrument during the guaranty
period are borne by the maker; except that the costs and expenses arising from causes attributable to

user or damage or failures through act of God, even during the guaranty period, should be borne by the
user
(2) Costs and expenses for after-services resulting from mechanical failures after the expiry of the guaranty
period are at user’s account, based on types of services provided, as specified in the company regulation
