Stingray2BandEQ,butisnotacopyoftheoriginalcircuit.Theoriginalusedasingleop-
ampchip(singleamplifierstageintheformofachip)forbothbassandtreblecircuits,
whereasthisunitutilisesamoremoderndualop-ampchip(twoamplifiersstagesinachip).

Thedesignofthe2bandEQintheearlyStingray©bassesisunusualinthatitdoesnotfollowthetypesof
topologiesaroundwhichthemajorityofequalisersaredesigned.ItwouldseemthatLeoFenderdesigned
ittocreateaparticularsoundratherthanfollowanyconventions,suchassymmetricalEQcurves.
Consequentlythefiguresshownmayappearunusualtothosefamiliarwithsuchspecifications.Infactit's
noteasytoportraywhatthisEQdoeswithafewnumbers,butinanycasesomefigures,basedarounda
flatresponseinputsignal,arequotedasreferencepoints.
Thereismoreboostthancut,givingrisethecharacteristic'sizzle'associatedwiththeStingray©styleof
EQ.
Thebasscontrolhasalittlemoreboostthantheoriginal.Theboostcurvecontinuestorisetowardsthe
lowerfrequencies,withoutflatteningoutatanyfrequencywithinthenormalbassguitarrange.Conversly
thecutcharacteristicisshelving,havinganessentiallyflatresponsefrom30-100Hz,whenfullycut.
Setsthelevelfromthepreamp,feedingtheoutputjackdirectly,liketheorignal.Thismeansthatthepickup
feedsthepreampdirectly,allowingthebestpossibletransferofsignal,and fullinterractionofthepickup
withthepreamp.
Thisunitcanbepoweredfrom9-18VoltsDC.
Thepotsaremarked:V=Volume,B=Bass,T=Treble
Thepotthreadsare7.0mmsize.Fitthemintotheirholesleavingtherubberspacerringsinplaceifthe
holesaretheoriginallargersize.Tightenthemoncetheyareinplace.
Mountthepreampontherearfacesofthebassandtreblepotsusingthefoamtapeontherearofthe
preamp.
Connectthepickupswirestothebass/treblecircuitboard,accordingthetheBTB-MMdiagram.
Abatteryclipisprovidedwiththepreampallowingittobepowereddirectly.Butmostbasseswillhave
aseparatebatterycompartment.Inwhichcase,cutofthebatteryclipandjointheredandblackwires
fromthethepreamptothoseinthebass.Beforejoiningthewires,sliptheheatshrinksleevesoverthe
joints.Thesleevingcanbeheatedwithahotsolderingiron,orotherlocalisedheatsource,heldin
closeproximity.(Theheatshrinksleevescanbefoundthreadedontheblackgroundwire)
Connecttheblackgroundwirefromthejacktoanygroundwiresinthebass,suchasthebridge.
NOTE: Liketheoriginal,thiscircuitdoesnothaveaflatresponsewhenthecontrolsaresetmidway.This
unitisnotdesignedasaclinicaltool,wherewhatgoesin,comesoutatsomereferencesetting.
