Introduction
The Delta-Trem
ä
authentically recreatesthe
alluring,hypnotic tone andfeelofavintagetube
amptremolo. This is accomplished byusing aphoto-
opticalvacuumtubesignalpath–twiceforstereo!
This is an exceptionally warmand musicaltremolo
effectthatblendswell withclean and overdriven
guitarsounds.Thedualsignalpathallowsthe pedal
tooperateinmono tremolomodeintoasingleamp
ortrue stereowherethesound ‘ping-pongs’ between
twoampsforahuge, spacioustone.
Circuitoperation is utterly quietwithnoneofthe
audible'ticking'sound oftenassociatedwithtube
amptremolo.The Delta-Trem featuresan incredibly
versatileL.F.O.(lowfrequency oscillator) thatcan
reproducetheclassic deep throbofavintage

The 12AU7tubesinthe Delta-Trem canbeswapped
withother9-pindoubletriodetubessuchasthe
12AX7,12AY7,etc.Thesesubstitutionsyieldhigher
gainand mildoverdrivefora‘Leslie’stylegrowlas
well astonaldifferencesdepending onthetube type,
manufacturer,etc.Mil-SpecNOSarerecommended,
if theycan beobtained.

No,notdrugs!This pedalis fitted withcustom
manufactured Omeg potentiometers.Theseare
sealed unitssodustcannotenterthemand they
won’tdry outsoneverrequireperiodic cleaning or
lubrication.Also,ourunique potbushingsystem
protectsthepotfrommechanicaldamage(i.e.being
steppedon!)

Aninternaljumpercan be used to Sync the ‘Left’
and ‘Right’channels forping-pongtremolo.Withthe
jumperinplacethechannels will be exactly 180°out
ofphaseand the ‘Shape’,‘Depth’,‘Speed’and
‘Rhythm’parameters forthe Rightchannelwill be
the sameasthe Left channel.
CV(ControlVoltage) inputallowsthespeed ofthe
tremolotobecontrolled withanexpression pedal,
suchasthe Roland EV-5orEV-7.Ifusing a
modified passivevolumepedal,theinternal
potentiometermust havearesistanceofintherange
of10Kto250Kand shouldbeconnected asshown
inthe figurebelow.

The Delta-Trem tremolospeed canalsobe
controlled using an externalV.C.O.(voltage
controlled oscillator).Voltagerange mustbeinthe
range of 0to5volts.

the tremolo.16 differentL.F.O.waveshapesare
continuously selectableusing this knob withafurther
24 being accessed viathe 3-way
‘Filament/Fluid/Neon’toggleswitchontherear
panel. Effectrode’s powerfulL.F.O.engine can
authentically reproducethe soundofthe original
Delta-Trem filamentlamptremolo,vintagetube amp
neon/photocell tremolo,‘Leslie’rotating speaker,
DeArmond

mechanical-fluidtremoloaswell as
othertotally uniqueand tremolosounds.
Depth knob controls the intensityofthetremolo
effectfromasubtleshimmertodeep amplitude for
somegoodoldLouisianaswampblues.When fully
anti-clockwisethe tremoloeffectis cancelled sothat
the guitarsignalis beingbufferedandboosteda
littlebythe tube circuitry forwarmthandsome
additionaldrive.
Speed knob setsthe tremolomodulationrate.
Rotatingthis knobclockwiseincreasesthe rate.The
L.F.O.engine is abigimprovementon the primitive
phase-shift oscillators foundinmanytube amps
whichareknowntogeneratean audible‘ticking’
noiseandalsolosegainatlowermodulation rates,
resulting inaweakerintensityofeffect. These
issueshavebeen engineeredoutinthe Delta-Trem
togivetheL.F.O.awide rangeforadeepertremolo
on slowersettingsandsuper-quiet operation.
Rhythm knob selects1of8differentaccented
rhythmic patternstoemphasisespecific tremolo
pulsebeats.Thefollowing timesignaturesare
available:1/1,1/2(marchtime),3/4(waltztime),4/4
(rock/pop),5/4and6/8timealong withother
patterns.Asthe‘rhythm’knobis rotatedclockwise
the timesignatureincreasesproducing evermore
complexpatternsuntil the Delta-Trem beginsto
sound morelikeasequencerthan atremolo!
Note:‘Shape’,‘Depth’,‘Speed’and‘Rhythm’knobs
affectthe‘Left’channel.Toaltertheseparameters
forthe ‘Right’channelpress andholddownthe
‘Tap/Sync’ footswitchwhilst adjusting the knobs.
Filament/Fluid/Neon switchselectsbetween 3
banks of16 waveforms(48total).The ‘Filament’
bankcontainssubtlehyper-triangle,sineand
smoothed squarewaveshapes;the ‘Fluid’bank
containsrising saw, triangleandfalling sawwave
shapes;andthe‘Neon’bankcontainsdeeppulse
waveshapes.
Mono/Stereo switchallowsthe Delta-Trem towork
asatremolo/panner/splitterformono sources(such
asguitar) orasatrue stereotremoloforusewith
stereo keyboards.Whentheswitchis ‘up’the input
is mono (TS)and when‘down’it’s stereo (TRS).
Bypass footswitchallowsselection between
‘effectified’(tube buffered tremolo)and ‘non-
effectified’(true bypassed ‘dry’) signal.
Tap/Sync footswitchsetsthetremolospeedwhen
the Delta-Trem is in‘tap tempo’mode.Two
successivepresses(taps) ofthefootswitchsetthe
speed andone press resetsthe tremolotothe
beginning of itscycleallowing resynchronisation with
the beatwhen playinginalivesituation.In‘tap
tempo’mode the ‘Speed’knobfunctionsasatap
divide/multiply control:1/4(16thnote),1/3(eighth
notetriplet),1/2(eighthnote),1/1(quarternote),3/2
(dottedquarternote),2/1(halfnote),3/1(dottedhalf
note),4/1(wholenote).
Pressing andholding downthe‘Tap/Sync’ footswitch
and thenpressing the ‘Bypass’ footswitchactivates
‘tap tempo’mode.Repeating this process putsthe
pedalback intonormalmode.
Internal Dwell trim-potsetsthe biaspointofthe
filamentlamptoalterthedepthandcharacterofthe
tremolo.Toaccess the ‘Dwell’ trim-pot, first
disconnectthepowertothepedal,carefully unscrew
the six screwsunderneaththepedaland then
removethe base-plate.Asmall watchmaker’s
screwdriverorspecialised trimming toolwill be
required toadjust the trim-pot.
ToneTip! The Delta-Trem can be utilised asan
audiophiletube boost/buffer/splitterwhenthe‘Depth’
knob settominimumand withthe‘Dwell’ trim-pot
maxed out.
