1 . I nt r od uct ion
The ETM1 2 1 board is design and developed t o int erface alm ost any circuit to Et hernet
( LAN) . The ETM121 board is designed using Rea lt ek RTL8 0 1 9 AS Et hernet cont roller,
over which the application circuit is developed. The controller has unique features such
as 8K of On- Chip Ram and 8/ 16 bit operat ions wit h int errupt capabilit ies. The ETM 1 2 1
board can be connected to em bedded m icrocont roller and m icroprocessor for direct
connect ivit y to t he LAN; also it is com pat ible to ETM 1 0 0 m icrocont roller board
available in Em bin product folder. The provided int erface & sam ple C code shall help
beginners t o j um p st art wit h t heir applicat ion developm ent .

8bit Microcont roller Board. For connectivit y with t he ETM100 board use t he provided
cable (opt ional) with Em bin’s ETM100 Kit .

The ETM121 Board is to be connect ed t o t he m icrocont roller board using the CN1,
CN2 Connect or or to the ETM100 Board using t he provided connect or. Read sam ple C
code for Ethernet drivers & download t he driver hex code t o t he m icrocont roller
board ( To download hex file check board docum ent at ion) .

a) Connect + 5 V bet ween CN2 - 26 ( + ) , CN2- 2 5 ( - ) .
b) Connect t he Dat a bu s CN1- 2- 9.
c) Con nect t he Address bus CN2 - 16- 2 0.
d) Connect t he I ORB CN2 - 23, I OWB CN2- 22, RSTDRV CN2- 2 4 Con trol signals.

Developers in various configurations can use t he ETM121 Board. Som e are given

a) ETM121 Board can be used t o explore t he Realt ek RTL8019AS core & as a
Test plat form t o explore Et herne t ( 8 0 2 .3 ) prot ocol. The ETM121 board helps
to explore other St ack prot ocols like TCP/ I P, I CMP, SMTP, et c.
b) The sam ple C driver code provided wit h the ETM121 board are self
explanat ory wit h com m ent s that help you underst and t he Realt ek RTL8019AS
architect ure.
The ETM121 board rem oves t he burden of hardware developm ent & as the basic pins
are available at t he edge of t he board so furt her developm ent is easily possible.
