Quick Start
The ES9080Q evaluation board comes pre-configured to be plug-and-play. Follow these instructions to
get an output from the RCA jacks:
1. Confirm that jumpers(red) match the image below
2. Plug in USB
3. Plug in I2S cables to DATA_CLK, DATA1 and DATA2 (green)
4. Install jumper on AUX_EN
5. Start I2S stream with the transmitter in slave mode (ES9080Q is in master mode)
6. Measure output through RCA jacks

Board Overview
Device Under Test (DUT)
The device under test is the ES9080Q.
Auxiliary Bridge (AUX Bridge)
The USB interface with the evaluation board is through a ES9280AQ PRO that allows for:
•Direct register control through I2C
•Automatic configuration with ES9280Q firmware

Input/Output Paths
External I2S Digital Audio to DAC
An I2S stream can be connected directly to DATA_CLK, DATA1 and DATA2

AUX Bridge USB Digital Audio to DAC
Install the following jumpers (red) to connect the I2S inputs of the ES9080Q to the AUX bridge.
Alternate register configuration is required to put the DUT in slave mode for USB audio.
Note: Make sure to select “ESS USB Audio” as the output device on the PC. For best performance, use an
ASIO or WSAPI driver. Default Windows audio down-samples automatically.

Register Configuration
ESS Suite GUI
1. Connect to USB and wait for the GUI to detect the bridge device:
2. Select ES9080Q from the I2C Device dropdown
3. Click on the “Controls for I2C Device” button
4. The ES9080Q is now ready to be configured either via single register changes or S2M script:
5. If all registers show as 0xFF or 0xF0, the ES9080Q is not communicating with the AUX Bridge.
Confirm all jumpers match the Quick Start section and check power supply voltages mentioned
in the Power Supply Options section.
