WARNING:
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK! Failure to disconnect all power to the rack before
working in the rack could result in serious injury or death.
AVERTISSEMENT :
Travailler à l’intérieur de l’armoire sans avoir déconnecté le courant peut
entrainer des blessures graves, voire mortelles.
Before removing dimmer or control modules for service, de-energize main
feed to dimmer rack and follow appropriate Lockout/Tagout procedures as
described in NFPA Standard 70E. Electrical equipment such as dimmer racks
can present an arc flash safety hazard if improperly serviced. This is due to
available large short circuit currents on the feeders of the equipment. Any
work on energized equipment must comply with OSHA Electrical Safe
Working Practices.

Connect the Battery Leads
In order to prevent premature battery drain, the battery pack(s) for the BatteryPack Option are shipped with
the leads disconnected. You must first open the battery pack(s) and connect the wire leads to the
appropriate terminals.
1: Open the rear cover of the battery pack using a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver. There are six screws on
each battery pack.
2: Locate the plastic bag containing the wire harness for the battery terminals. Remove the harness from
the bag.
3: Connect the red harness wire to the
positive (+) terminal and the black wire
to the negative (-) terminal on the
battery (see Figure 1 at right).
4: Replace the battery inside the battery
pack.
5: Connect the other end of the wire
harness to the circuit board connector
next to the battery (see Figure 2 at
right). The connector is keyed and can
only fit one way.
6: Replace the rear cover of the battery
pack using the six screws removed
earlier.
7: If the BatteryPack Option included a
second battery pack, repeat steps 1–6
for that battery pack.

Connect Wiring
Wiring tasks differ based on whether you are installing one battery pack or two:
•One battery pack: Use the instructions that follow to terminate one set of wires between the Rack A
(left) side of the BatteryPack Option terminals and the back of the CEM3 backplane.
•Two battery packs: Use the instructions that follow to terminate two sets of wires between the Rack A
and Rack B BatteryPack Option terminals and two separate CEM3 backplanes. Make sure that each
pair of Rack A and Rack B wires are routed together to the backplanes to which they will connect. (It
does not matter which Sensor3 rack they are routed to.)
Terminate Wire to BatteryPack Option
1: Run a length of 1.5–2.0 mm2(14–18 AWG)
twisted pair wire through the conduit between
the BatteryPack Option and the Sensor3 rack.
Include extra length to facilitate terminations
and working slack.
2: Strip the wire ends 10 mm (0.39 in) and
connect them to the appropriate header
terminals in the BatteryPack Option, according
to the diagram on the BatteryPack Option cover
(see Figure 3 at right). To connect the wire to
the terminal, insert a precision flatblade
screwdriver into the rectangular slot below the
desired terminal and then insert the wire.
CAUTION:
Installation on an installed CEM3 will require negotiating load wires, termination
wires, and other obstructions. Use caution when moving, bending, or otherwise
manipulating existing wires inside of the rack. This will avoid any inadvertent
disconnections.

Terminate Wire to CEM3 Backplane
1: Find the 2-pin Phoenix connector (part number J3976-F) included with the BatteryPack Option.
2: Connect the wires from the BatteryPack Option to the 2-pin Phoenix connector using a flatblade
precision screwdriver:
• Pin 1=Positive (red)
• Pin 2=Negative (black)
When held in the orientation shown below, the top of the connector is visible. This is Pin 1. (See
Figure 4 below.)
3: Connect the 2-pin connector to the rear of the
backplane. Make sure that you align it with the red
wire on top. The connector is keyed, but can be
forced onto the mount incorrectly. If you encounter
more than a little resistance when trying to plug in the
connector, stop and make sure that the connector is
oriented correctly. It may help to use a small mirror to
view the rear of the backplane when connecting (see
Figure 5 at right.)
