Farallon NetLINE USB User manual

NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway
Farallon’s NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway connects to your cable/DSL modem, allowing computers on your local wired and wireless networks to share a single
broadband connection to the Internet. This Setup Guide covers the most common situations for installing your NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway. Please see the user
guide on the CD-ROM that came in your NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway package for complete setup and operation instructions.
Installation overview
NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway installation instructions begin on page 2 of this setup guide.
• Local network installation – Insert the wireless PC card for wireless network access and connect the
Ethernet port to a hub or switch on the wired network.
• Broadband connection – Connect the Broadband Connection port to the cable/DSL modem.
• Client configuration – Configure wired and wireless client computers to use the
NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway.
• NetLINE Wireless Gateway configuration – The default settings of the NetLINE
Wireless Broadband Gateway will work for many users, but it is recommended that you
verify the Local Network and Broadband Network configurations as described in this
setup guide. You must configure your NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway if your
Internet Service Provider (ISP) is using the following for your Internet connection:
• PPPoE (your ISP assigns dynamic addresses over Ethernet or uses EnterNet, MacPoet or WinPoet)
• A fixed IP Address (your ISP has provided you with a static IP Address)
IMPORTANT NOTE! The complete user guide for the NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway is available on the CD-ROM included in your NetLINE package. Acrobat
Reader 4.0, the software required to view the user guide, is also included on the CD-ROM.

Install the NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway at the center of your wireless network coverage area.
• Your cable/DSL modem and the NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway should be powered OFF before you begin installation.
• Leave your cable/DSL modem connected to its phone line or cable input.
1. Insert the supplied Wireless PC card into the Wireless PCMCIA Card slot on the rear panel of the NetLINE
Wireless Broadband Gateway. Insert the card label-side up, and make sure the card is inserted
securely. It should click into position.
2. Use the provided Ethernet cable (or any standard straight-through Ethernet cable) to
connect the Ethernet port on the NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway to a hub or
switch on your local network. If you do not have a network hub or switch, use the
Uplink port to connect the NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway directly to an Ethernet-
enabled computer. Do NOT use the Ethernet and Uplink ports at the same time.
3. Use the Ethernet cable provided with your
cable/DSL modem to connect the modem to
the Broadband Connection port on the
NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway.
4. Turn your cable/DSL modem ON.
5. Connect the NetLINE Wireless Broadband
Gateway’s power adapter. Use only the
power adapter provided by Farallon.
When powered on, the NetLINE Wireless
Broadband Gateway’s Status LED should flash
red briefly and then turn off.
The NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway is now installed. Next, configure the client computers on your local network to use DHCP so
that the NetLINE Wireless Broadband Gateway can assign IP Addresses on your local network.
• See page 3 for DHCP client setup instructions.
It is preferable to use DHCP, but if you are unable to do so you can assign a fixed IP Addresses for each computer on the local network.
• See page 4 for fixed IP Address client setup instructions.
