Reception conditions
Reception conditions change constantly

The sound system has been designed in ac-
co dance with the special featu es of the
passenge compa tment, with a pe son-
alised design that blends with the style of
the dashboa d.
The sound system is installed in a use -
f iendly position fo the d ive and passen-
ge and the g aphics on the f ont panel
make location of the cont ols quick, facili-
tating use.
In the following pages you will find the in-
st uctions fo use, which you a e advised
to ead th ough ca efully. The inst uctions
also contain the p ocedu e fo cont olling
the CD Change (whe e p ovided) th ough
the sound system. Fo the inst uctions fo
use of the CD Change efe to the specific
manual.
Too high a volume when dri-
ving can put the driver’s life at
risk and that of other people. There-
fore the volume should always be ad-
justed in such a way that it is always
possible to hear the noises of the sur-
rounding environment (e.g.: horns, am-
bulance, police sirens, etc. .

ing (e.g.: sp ay cans, antistatic o thin-
ne s) as they might damage the su face
of Compact Discs;

Afte use, put Compact Discs back in

sc atches that may cause skipping when
playing;

Do not expose Compact Discs to di ect
sunlight, high tempe atu es o damp fo
p olonged lengths of time to p event
them f om bending;

Do not stick labels o w ite on the
eco ded su face of Compact Discs.
To emove a Compact Disc f om its con-
taine , p ess the cent e and aise the disc
ca efully, holding it by the oute ci cum-
fe ence.
Always hold Compact Discs by the oute
ci cumfe ence. Neve touch the su face.
To emove finge p ints and dust, use a
soft cloth sta ting f om the cent e of the
Compact Disc outwa ds.
Do not use highly sc atched, c acked, o
disto ted discs, etc. The use of these discs
will involve malfunctioning o damage to
the playe .
Fo best playing use only o iginal CDs.
P ope ope ation is not gua anteed when
using R/RW CDs not p ope ly maste ed
and/o with max. capacity exceeding 650
MB.
IMPORTANT Do not use the p otective
sheets fo CD in comme ce o discs with
stabilise s, etc. as they might get stuck in
the inte nal mechanism and damage the
disc.
Care and maintenance
The sound system st uctu e ensu es long
ope ation with no need fo pa ticula
maintenance. In the event of a fault, con-
tact a Fiat Deale ship.
To clean the f ont panel only use a soft,
antistatic cloth. Cleaning and polishing
p oducts might spoil the su face.
Compact Disc
Remembe that di t, ma ks o disto tion
on Compact Disc can cause skipping. To
obtain optimum playing conditions we give
the following advice:

IMPORTANT The CD playe can ead
most of the comp ession systems cu -
ently on sale (e.g.: LAME, BLADE, XING,
FRAUNHOFER) howeve , due to the
evolution of these systems, eading of all
comp ession fo mats is not gua anteed.
IMPORTANT When loading a multi-ses-
sion CD, only the fi st session will be
played.
IMPORTANT Should copy-p otected
CDs be used, then, few seconds may be
equi ed fo playing them. Mo eove , due
to the p olife ation of always new and dif-
fe ent p otection methods, it is not gua -
anteed that the CD playe can play what-
eve p otected disc. Copy p otection is
often indicated on the CD cove in small
lette s o ha d to ead cha acte s. Usu-
ally it is indicated by w itings like: “COPY
CONTROL”, “COPY PROTECTED”,
“THIS CD CANNOT BE PLAYED ON A
PC/MAC”, o it is identified by symbols

P essing b iefly and epeatedly button SRC
it is possible to select the following func-
tions in sequence:
– TUNER (Radio)
– CD (Compact Disc)
– CDC (CD Change ) (only if the CD
Change is connected).
Afte changing sound sou ce, the display
will show the cu ent function selected:
TUNER (Radio), CD (Compact Disc),
CDC (CD Change ).
Functions not available (e.g. “CD” if a
Compact Disc is not inse ted) a e disabled
automatically.
SOUND SOURCE MEMORY
FUNCTION
If while listening to a CD anothe function
is selected (e.g.: the adio), playing is
stopped and when the CD mode is e-
sumed, it sta ts again f om the point in
which it was stopped.
If while listening to the adio anothe func-
tion is selected, when the Radio mode is
esumed, it is tuned to the last station se-
lected.
VOLUME ADJUSTMENT
Adjust volume th ough button/knob
ON/OFF.
Tu n the knob clockwise to inc ease vol-
ume, tu n the knob counte -clockwise to
lowe the volume.
The display will show: “VOLUME 00” …
“VOLUME 12”
TURNING THE
SOUND SYSTEM ON
The sound system is switched on p essing
the button/knob ON/OFF. The tu ning on
of the sound system adio can be con-
nected to the ca ignition: tu ning the ig-
nition key to MAR, the adio tu ns on;
tu ning the key to STOP the adio tu ns
off (see pa ag aph “Setting the AUTO
function” is section “Radio”).
If the sound system is tu ned on with the
ignition key at STOP, it will tu n off auto-
matically afte about 20 minutes.

SOFT MUTE FUNCTION
When the Mute function is tu ned on/off
the volume will g adually inc ease o de-
c ease (Soft Mute function).
TONE ADJUSTMENT
(bass/treble)
P oceed as follows:

until the display shows “BASS”
o “TREBLE”.
– tu n the knob ON/OFF clockwise to in-
c ease bass o t eble tones o tu n it
counte -clockwise to dec ease.
The display will show fo a few seconds
the bass/t eble levels (–10 to +10).
A few seconds afte the last setting the dis-
play will esume the adio main sc een.
BALANCE ADJUSTMENT
P oceed as follows:

until the display shows “BAL-
ANCE”
– tu n the button/knob ON/OFF clock-
wise to inc ease the sound f om the ight
speake s o tu n it counte -clockwise to
inc ease the sound f om the left speake s.
The display will show fo a few seconds
the balance levels, f om Í+10 to È+10
(È= ight, Í= left). A few seconds af-
te the last setting the display will esume
the adio main sc een.
MUTE FUNCTION
(turning off t e volume
completely)
To switch the Mute function on, p ess
b iefly the button MUTE. Volume will
g adually lowe (Soft Mute function) and
the display will show the cu ent sound
sou ce selected followed by the Mute (e.g.
“TUNER MUTE” when the Radio is se-
lected).
To switch the Mute function off, p ess
b iefly the button MUTE again. Volume
will g adually become loude (Soft Mute
function) etu ning to the value set befo e
switching on the Mute function.
Tu ning the button/knob ON/OFF the
sound level changes; the Mute function will
howeve stay on. P ess the button MUTE
again to tu n it off.
When the Mute function is on, all the oth-
e functions can be used. If a t affic an-
nouncement a ives with the TA function
on, the t affic message will igno e the
Mute function.

LOUDNESS FUNCTION
The Loudness function imp oves the
sound volume when listening at low lev-
el, inc easing the basses and t ebles. When
volume is at max. the Loundness function
is excluded.
To switch the function on/off, open the
MENU by p essing b iefly button MENU
RDS
and sc oll it. Function condition (on
o off) is shown on the display by message
“LOUDNESS: ON” o “LOUDNESS:
OFF”, that can be selected by means of
buttons Èo Í.
TELEPHONE PROVISION
If the hands-f ee kit is installed on the ca ,
when a phone call is eceived the volume
set will be the one selected fo the
PHONE function in the menu, if equi ed
it can be muted OFF.

The AM band is divided into sections:
MW, LW and AMAST. The AMAST band
is ese ved to the stations sto ed auto-
matically with the AutoSTo e function.
The adio is always p eset fo eceiving
stations b oadcasting with RDS (Radio Da-
ta System).
PRESETTING BUTTONS
The buttons with symbols f om 1 to 6
make it possible to set the following p e-
settings:
– 24 in the FM band ( 6 in FM 1, 6 in FM
2, 6 in FM 3, 6 in FMAST)
– 6 in the LW band
– 6 in the MW band
– 6 in the AMAST band
To call a p eset station, choose the e-
qui ed f equency band and then p ess
b iefly the co esponding p eset button
(f om 1 to 6). The display will show the
station name and f equency and also the
p esetting numbe .
STORING THE LAST
STATION HEARD
The adio automatically keeps in sto age
the last station hea d fo each eception
band, which is then tuned when the a-
dio is tu ned on o the eception band is
changed.
AUTOMATIC TUNING
B iefly p ess button Èo Íto sta t au-
tomatically sea ching the tuning fo the
next station that it is possible to eceive
in the di ection chosen.
If the station on which the tune stops is
one of the stations sto ed with the p e-
setting buttons (f om 1 to 6), the display
will show the p esetting numbe .
When the sound system is tu ned on, the
last function selected befo e tu ning off
is played (Radio, Compact Disc o CD
Change ).
To select the Radio sou ce while listening
to anothe audio sou ce, p ess b iefly and
epeatedly button SRC.

(station scanning)

stations in the f equency band selected
(FM, AM, MW, LW). Each station found
will be hea d fo a few seconds and the
elevant f equency is shown on the dis-
play.
Du ing scanning, the display will show the
message “TUNER SCAN”, with the wo d
“SCAN” flashing.
When the SCAN function is on, all the
othe functions a e cancelled.
The SCAN function is inte upted in the

To switch on the AutoSTo e function (au-

st ongest signal in dec easing o de of in-
tensity in the FMAST f equency band (if
tuned on FM band) o AMAST (if tuned on
AM band).
IMPORTANT Activating the AutoSTo e
function cancels the stations sto ed p e-
viously in the FMAST o AMAST band.
Du ing automatic sto age the display
shows “TUNER FMAST” o “TUNER
AMAST” if TUNER mode (Radio) with FM
o AM f equency band is selected. To in-

LISTENING TO STORED
STATIONS

age buttons.
The display will show the station name (if
p esent) and f equency, whe eas at the
bottom of the display is shown “Pn”
whe e n is the numbe co esponding to
the cu ent station.
In bands FM1, FM2 and FM3, if eception
is poo o weak and the AF alte native f e-
quency sea ch function is active, the sta-
tion with the st ongest signal that is b oad-
casting the same p og amme will be
sought automatically.

When the signal of the RDS station tuned
weakens, the following two cases may oc-
cu :
– With “AF SWITCHING: ON” the RDS
system activates automatic tuning of the
optimum f equency of the station chosen,
with the stations enabled, the efo e the
adio is automatically tuned to the station
with the st ongest signal that is b oad-
casting the same p og amme. Du ing the
jou ney it will thus be possible to contin-
ue listening to the station chosen with-
out having to change the f equency when
changing a ea. Of cou se, the station be-
ing listened to must be eceivable in the
a ea the ca is c ossing.
– With “AF SWITCHING: OFF” the a-
dio will not tune the st ongest station au-
tomatically and it will have to be found
manually using the tune buttons.

bulletin, the message “TRAFFIC INFO”
will be displayed alte nate with the cu -
ent one (e.g.: station name).
To tu n the TA function on/off, p ess
b iefly button TA. When the TA function
is on the display will show the message
“TA-ON”.
When the TA function is on, an incoming
t affic bulletin will stop tempo a ily the
cu ent b oadcasted p og amme o the
CD being played. Switching f om the se-
lected station to the station b oadcasting
t affic announcements is only possible if
connection fo EON function is enabled.
