the "O N" temperature setting and 110' as the 'OFF" temperature setting. This me3ns when the
heat chamber re aches 150 ', the blower will t um "O N", when the chamber cools to 110' , Ihe blower
will tum "OF F". Th is process Is called a heating cycle,

The By·pass damper has several purposes, starting the fire, improving Ihe efficiency end
cleaning t
he chimney. When starting a fire in your 0522000 , you must pull the rocl out, for a
stronger draft during Igrli\ion, Once the fire has started, close the bypass damper, which alklws Ihe
lecondary combustion chamber to engage increasing the furnace's operation to peak efficiency If
the bypass rod is not closed du ring operation, the furnace's efficieney will be greatly reduced
allowing Ihe heat to escape
up Ihe chimney. Finally, when cleaning the chimne y, the rod must be
pulled out to allow any build- up in t he chimney 10 fall i nlo th e firebox.

1. Remove the anchorpiale from Ihe main electrical kit box that was shipped on l OP of your furnace.

3, lnslall the anchor plate to the top of your fumace using 4 #10 )[ ¥. galVanized screws wilh
rubberg3skel.
4 Install the chimney pipe to your ooIdoor furnace.
5. After all chimney components are ins ta l~ InchJding the cap, f ollOW diagram B caulking around t he
chimney pipe as well as around the OIJIer edge of the anchOf plate.

INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS

1-lnstall the blower on to brackets located
on part A blower housing using 4- 1/4" bolts
and 4_ 114 " U nuts provided.
2· Caulk the blower housing part A and attach to back ollumace using 4· 114 " bolts
and 2-1'4" nuts. (See Diagram
on page g)
3- Align the Ian limit control bol( with the gasket to the 4 holes on the back 01 the furnace
with 4 -
#1 0 X 3'4" screws for a watertight seal.
4- Mount
blower servi ce cover part Busing 21- #10 green screws provided.
5- Pass the wire conduit thru the hole on PartA blower housing. Re-install the locking
nut on weather tight fitting.
S- Mount draft motorto front of unit using 3 Yo "bolts past conduit through tube located
in left lower comer. Attach conduit clip with 1- #1 0 )( %" screw to left inner panel. ( See
diagram on page 9) Insert plug Into control center marked drsft motor.
7-lnsert the plug from the fan limit control into the control center marked fan limit.
8- Insert the plug from
the blower motor into the control center marked blower.
9- Mount cover on fan limit control bol( with 2 - #10 screw'S .
10· Caulk blower housing cover seams.
Run the thermostat wire (nol supplied) from the two posts located on top of the control
center tn;tnsformer. Note:
You may run Ihe thermostat wim and power cord thru the
mtum cold eir duct or you may access the hole from the bottom of the blower
/lousing cover.
The hole must be sealedeftelWard regardless of routing choice.
Connect the 10" starter collar 10 the heal supply vent of the fumace . Connect the
12" starter collar to the cold air return on the back of the blower housing cover.

When making plans to install your outdoor furnace. the fil'$t thing you need to think about is
placement fo the unit. Although yoo can install the FCOS22000 up to 30 from the home. we
recommend much closer due to better air flow. The f urn ace has been tested for clearance of
31 inches from the home. Thi5 wouKl give meximum air now and provide the highesl efficiency.

Wh",n the re Is no duct 5ystem to COflnect to the hot air flex duct, keep the
following In mind:
1. You must separate the hot air duct from the cold air return -Ideally, locl!te
each at apposite ends of the home, if you do not the air will not flow evenly through-
out the home. This method will wor k well on homes built on concrete slabs and
treate a good air flow.
2. 10 homes with a basement, you may run the hot air duct to the basement
and pull
the cold air return from the main nco r, this will create a perfect air How,
sinte hot a ir rises. The told air return must be connected, even if thc home does
not have duct work - If
you do not connect the cold air return, the furnace will not be
able to heat the home. See dIagram below for homes wIth no duct work and a
basement. .

OPERATION
SLlrt i ng your first "raal fir e": Set the wall thermostat /0 90 '. Check /0 be certain the spin drafts are
wide open to allowOllygen into the fireball
Place several crumpled newspapers on the grate wfth some dry kindling layered on top of the papers,
ignite the newspaper. When the kindling is burning, add sIVeral small pieces
of wood -allow the wood
to fully engage in lIames. After aboul 20 minutes the fire should be ~tablished . allowing you to add
more wood - do not overload and smother the fire. Add more wood slowly 50 the flames have time to
engulf the fresh wood. Once the fire is burning and there is a gtowing ember bed, adjust the drafts to
achieve the desired bum pattern. Learning how to adjust the drafts to maintain the desired temperature
for your home may take a few days. After II short time you will know which settings and adjustments
woO. best for your home. Set the wall thermostat to the desired home temperature. Over-firing by
overloading/over-fueling the furnace causes the metal to superheat and expand, then cool rapidly
wh~ causes cracking, therefore vOlcling the warranty. Over.finng or abuse can easily be determined

Your 0522000 has an automatic safety feature - Heat Dump Release System. tn case 01
power failure. the Heat Dump Release will open the spring loaded lid when the in ternal furnace
temperature reaches 370
'. The heat sensitive fuse link. located within the to~ of the heat chamber.
causes the lid to open. allowing excess heat to escape. The draft blower wW diseng9ge thus
restricting t he air entering the fife chamber. This safety feature 18 designed to activate before any
extreme heat eM damage the furnace
In Case
of Power Failure : Connect to Generator Immediately. If 'he Heat Dump Re/else
lid Should open, do not continue to burn the furnace . DO NOT UNPLUG THE FURNACE.
Close the draft dampers and set the wall thermostat to the lowes t temperature. DO NOT
add any fuel ( wood ) • altow the fire to die. After the electricity Is restored , rep lace the
fuse link before resuming normal operat io n.
Replacing the Heat Fuse
link : Remove the hex nut on top of the release lid and pull the boH
down thru the lid. Removed the separated fuse links and connect the new fuse link to the shaft
inside of the furnace heat chamber. Conned
the opposite end of the fuse link TO the boH thaT goes
thru the
lid Feed t he bo~ through the lid a nd replace the hex nut onto Ihe bol l on top of the lid.
As a
precaution , keep a replacement on hand.

CREOSOTE FORMATION AND THE NEED FOR REMOVAL:
VVhen wood is burned slowly. it produces an organic vapor which combines with expelled moisture
to form creosote. The creosote vapors colldense
in the relatively cooled chimney flue of a slow
burning fire. As a
resuH. creosote residue accumulates on the nue lining. II'w'hen ig nited. th is creosote

makes an extremely hot fire. The chimney connector and the chi mney should be inspected
at least twice monthly dur i ng the he ating season to determ i ne If a creosote build-up has
occurred . If creosote has accumutated i\ shoutd be removed to reduce risk of a chimney fire.
