Remove all packaging and padding from the Yakatori grill and parts.
Locate the 2 square metal perforated fuel trays and place one in each chamber of the grill.
NOTE: The fuel trays will become discolored and may warp slightly after use. This is normal.
Place the cooking grate across the top of the grill. Metal tabs that fit over the edges prevent it from
shifting.
Open the air vent(s) fully. Remove the cooking grate and set aside.
Stack charcoal briquettes in a pyramid shape inside the grill. Fill to no more than 70% of the volume
of the grill. Add lighter fluid if desired. Do not use gasoline, kerosene, or alcohol.
Once lighter fluid soaks in, immediately light the charcoal briquettes in several places by using a long
match or stick lighter.
Flames will die down in 5-10 minutes. Wait until the charcoal completely ashes over (up to 25-30
minutes). Then use a grilling tool to spread the briquettes evenly and begin cooking. Do not begin
cooking until the fuel has a coating of ash to avoid contamination of food with lighter fluid.
•Store charcoal briquettes in a dry location. If storing outdoors, seal in a waterproof container.
•A diatomite clay grill is fragile. Be careful when attempting to move or store it.
•When cleaning your grill, DO NOT use abrasive cleaners at they may damage parts of this product.
oRemove cooled ash and dispose properly.
oClean metal grates and plates with mild detergent and rinse with water. Do not place in
dishwasher. Allow to dry before replacing.
oDo NOT use any wet cleaning agents on clay surfaces. Remove grease by wiping or gently
scraping if necessary.
