Electrical Information
These guidelines must be followed to ensure that safety mechanisms in the
design of this refrigerator will operate properly.
•The refrigerator must be plugged into its own 115 Volt, 60 Hz, AC only
electrical outlet. The power cord of the appli;_nce isequipped with a 3-prong
grounding plug for your protection against shock hazards. It must be plugged
directly into a properly grounded 3-prong receptacle. The receptacle must be
installed in accordance with local codes and ordinances. Consult a qualified
electrician, Do not use an extension cord or an adapter plug.
•Ifvoltage varies by10 percent or more, performance ofyour refrigerator may be
affected. Operating the refrigerator with insufficient power can damage the
compressor. Suchdamage isnot covered underyourwarranty, Iryou suspectyour
voltage ishigh or IOWrconsult your power company for testing,
• Toprevent the refrigeratorfrom beingturned oft accidentallyr do not plug the unit
into an outlet controlled by a wall switch or pull cord.
Do not pinch, knot, or bend tile power cord in any manner.
Other Precautions
• Never unplug tile refrigerator bypulling on tile power cord. Always grip the plug
firmly and pull straight out from the receptacle.
• To avoid electrical shock, unplug the refrigerator before cleaning and before
replacinga light bulb. NOTE:Turning the control to OFFturns off the compressor,but
does not disconnect power to the light bulb or other electrical components.

First Steps Before starting the refrigerator, follow these important first steps:

Location
Choose a placethat isnear agrounded electrical outlet. DONOTuseanextension

If possible, place the refrigerator out of direct sunlight and away from the
range, dishwasher or other heat sources,
The refrigerator must be installed on a floor that is level and strong enough
to support afully loaded refrigerator.
Consider water supply availability for models equipped with an automatic ice
maker.
Installation
Do not install the refrigerator where the temperature will drop below 60°F
(15°C) or riseabove 110°F (43°C). Thecompressor will not be able to maintain
proper temperatures.
Allow spacearound the unitfor good air circulation. Leavea1 inch (25 mm) space
behind and a 3 inch (75 mm) space above the refrigerator for adequate
circulation.
In a recessed installation, allow an extra 1/2 inch (10-15 mm) on each side
for ease of installation.
Forbest circulation, elevate the unit 1 inch (25 ram) from the floor, especially if
the floor iscarpeted,
Door Opening
The doors should open to allow easy accessto a counter when removing food.
Do not position the refrigerator so you have to walk around the refrigerator
doors,
Reversethe doors if necessary.See Door Reversal Instructions.
Leveling
All four corners of refrigerator must rest firmly on a solid floor. Some models
are equipped with adjustable screw-type levelers. Others are equipped with rollers.
If your refrigerator did not comewith rollers, theycan be purchased fromyour dealer.
Remove toe grille (some models). SeeToe Grille instructions on page 13,
To adjust screw-type levelers (some models): Tip cabinet back slightly and
raise adjusting bolts as needed.
To adjust front rollers (some models): Use a screwdriver, 3/8 r'socket
wrench, or nutdriver to adjust rollers asshown,
Raise the front of cabinet enough so doors will close freely when opened halfway,
Level cabinet side to side.
Cleaning
Wash the inside, all removable parts and the outside with mild detergent and
warm water. Wipe dry. Do not use harsh cleaners on these surfaces.
Do not use razor blades or other sharp instruments, which can scratch the
appliance surface, when removing adhesive labels. Any glue left from the
tape or energy label carl be removed with a mixture of warm water and mild
detergent, or, touch the glue with the sticky side of tape already removed,
Do not remove the serial plate.

Connecting Ice Maker
to Water Supply
Toavoid electric shock, which cancausedeath or severepersonal injury,disconnectthe refrigeratorfrom
electrical power beforeconnectinga water supplylineto the refrigerator.
To Avoid Property Damage:
• Copper tubing is recommended for the water supply line, Water supply tubing made of 1/4" plastic is not recommended since it
greatly increases the potential for water leaks, Manufacturer will not be responsible for any damage if plastic tubing is used for
supply line
• DO NOT install water supply tubing in areas where temperatures fall below freezing.
• Connect the ice maker to a potable water source that is not tied into a water softening system Chemicals from the soRener may
damage the ice maker, causing it to malfunction,
IMPORTANT:
Ensurethat your water supply line connections comply with all local plumbing codes,
Before Installing The Water Supply Line, You Will Need
•Basic tools: adjustable wrench and standard, flat blade screwdriver.
• Access to a household cold water line with water pressure between 20 and 120 psi.
• A water supply line made of _/4inch (6.4 ram) OD, copper tubing. To determine the length of copper tubing needed, you
will need to measure the distance from the ice maker inlet valve at the back of the refrigerator to your cold water pipe,
Then add approximately 7 feet (2.1 meters), so the refrigerator can be moved out for cleaning, ,SeeFigure 2.
• A shutoff valve to connect the water supply line to your household water system, (DO NOT useaself-piercing type shutoff
valve.)
• A compression nut and ferrule (sleeve)for connecting the water supply line to the ice maker inlet valve,
NOTE: Water line kit number 5303917950, available from your appliance dealer at additional cost, contains 25 feet (7,6
meters) of _/4"OD copper tubing, a saddle type shutoff valve (nonpiercing), (2) _24"brass compression nuts, (2) ferruledsleeves,
and instructionsfor installinga water supply line.
To Connect Water Supply Line To Ice Maker Inlet Valve
1, Disconnect refrigerator from electric power s/Jpply,
2, Placeend of water supply line into sink or bucket. Turn ON water supply
and flush supply line until water isclear. Turn OFFwater supply at shutoff
valve.
3. Unscrew plastic cap from water valve inlet (some models) and discard cap.
4, Slide brass compression nut, then ferrule (sleeve),onto water supply line,
asshown in Figure 1.
5. Pushwater supply line into water valve inlet asfar as it will go (V4inch). Slide
ferrule (sleeve)into valve inlet and finger tighten compression nut onto
valve.Tighten another half turn with a wrench; DO NOT over tighten.
6. With steel clamp and screw, secure water supply line to rear panel
of refrigerator at location shown in Figure 2.
7. Coil excesswater supply line (about 2V_turns) behind refrigerator as
shown in Figure 2 and arrange coils sothey do not vibrate or wear
against any other surface.
8, Turn ON water supply at shutoff valve and tighten any connections
that leak.
9, Reconnect refrigerator to electric power supply.
10,To turn ice maker on, lower wire signal arm, (Seeice maker front
cover for on/off position of arm.)

ice. Air in new plumbing lines may cause ice maker to cycle two or three times before making a full tray of ice. New
plumbing may cause ice to be discolored or have poor flavor. Discard ice made during the first 24 hours.

Energy Saving Ideas • Locate the refrigerator inthe coolest part ofthe room, out of direct sunlight and
away from heating ducts or registers. Do not placethe refrigerator next to heat-
producing appliances such asa range, oven or dishwasher. If this isnot possible,
a section of cabinetry or an added layer of insulation between the two
appliances will help the refrigerator operate more efficiently.
• Level the refrigerator so the doors close tightly.
• Refer to this Ownerrs Guide for the suggested refrigerator settings.
• Periodic cleaning of the condenser will help the refrigerator run more efficiently.
See Outside in the "Care and Cleaning" section.
• Do not overcrowd the refrigerator or block cold air vents. Doing so causesthe
refrigerator to run longer and usemore energy, Shelvesshould not be lined with
aluminum foil, wax paper or paper toweling. Liners interfere with cold air
circulation, making the refrigerator less efficient, which could cause food
spoilage.
• Cover foods and wipe containers dry before placing them in the refrigerator.
This cuts down on moisture build-up inside the unit.
• Organize the refrigerator to reduce door openings. Remove as many items as
needed at one time and close the door assoon aspossible.

Refrigerator and Freezer Controls
To _art O_r set CO[_roIdials to the midpoint for a trial period of 24 hours.
Temperatures
After 24 hours, adjust the controls as needed, AdJust temperature one
number at a time. For colder temperatures, turn tile dial toward COLDEST.
Forwarmer temperatures, turn the dial toward COLD.The temperature will
increase or decrease, but not necessarily by 1, 2, or 3 degrees.
An adjustment made to one compartment may require an adjustment to the
other.
Turning the refrigerator control will change tile temperature in BOTH
compartments. If the refrigerator control is turned to OFF,cooling stops
in both compartments.
Turning tile freezer control will change only tile temperature in tile
freezer compartment.
To maintain temperatures, a fan circulates air in the refrigerator and freezer
compartments. For good circulation, do not block cold air vents with food items.
Moisture Reduction Switch (some models)
If moisture forms on tire metal between tile two doors, set tile Moisture
Reduction Switch (located on the control box in the refrigerator compartment) to
the "ON" position. A heater will warm the surface and allow moisture to evaporate,

Refrigerator shelves are easily adjustable to suit individu_l needs. Before adjusting
shelves, remove all food. The shipping clips, which stabilize the shelvesForshipping
may be removed and discarded.

stop position, then lift the front edge up and pull out.
Replace on any pair or rails by reversing this procedure.

Door Storage
Door bins and shelves are provided for convenient storage ofjarSrbottles, and cans.
Items used often are available for quick selection.
Somemodels have adjustable door binswhich can be moved to suit individual needs.
To move the bins, remove by lifting straight up. Placethe bin in the desired position
and lower over supports.
The Dairy Compartment iswarmer than the general food storage section and is
intended Forshort term storage of cheese, spreads, or butter,
Micro-Serve Dishes (some models)
Food can be stored, cooked*, and served in Micro-Serve Dishes provided in some
models. Thesedishesslide easilyinto their owntray, which hangs belowa door gallon
bin, conveniently freeing shelf space for other items, See illustration.

Crispers
The crispers, located under the bottom refrigerator shelf, are designed for storing
fruits, vegetables, and other fresh produce. Wash items in clear water and remove
excesswater before placing in the crispers, Items with strong odors or high moisture
should bewrapped before storing, Insome models, the crispersaredrawers, inothers,
they are tilt-out bins,
The Humidity Control (some models with Crisper drawers) allows you to adjust the
humidity within the Crisper, This can extend the life of fresh vegetables which keep
best in high humidity. Leafy vegetables, however, keep best when stored with the
Humidity Control set on HIGH, or in adrawer without a Humidity Control. Thiskeeps
incoming air to a minimum and maintains maximum moisture content.
Crisper Cover Support (some models)
The Crisper Cover Support, located between the two
Crisper drawers, isshipped raised from the liner floor.
Thisprevents damageto the linerfloor during shipping,
Once your refrigerator has been installed in it's final
location, the Foot of the Crisper Cover Support must
be lowered to prevent bowing in the middle of the
Crisper Cover, when food isplaced on it.
Adjusting the Foot of the Crisper Cover Support:
1, Tolower the Foot, rotate in a clockwise direction
until it rests on the liner floor.
2, Toraise the Foot, rotate in a counterclockwise
direction,

Dell Drawer (some models)
Some models are equipped with a Dell Drawer for storage of luncheon meats,
spreads, cheeses, and other dell items,
Meat Pan (some models)
Some models are equipped with a Meat Pan that can be positioned below any
refrigerator shelf. Usethis pan for short term storage of bulk meat items. If meats are
to be kept longer than 1 or 2 days, they should be frozen.
Meat Keeper (some models)
Thetemperature inthe Meat Keeper drawer can be made colder than the restof the
refrigerator compartment by adjusting the Chilled Air Control. Meat will be partially
frozen, and may be kept fresh longer than if stored on a refrigerator shelf.
Before placing items in Meat Keeper, follow these steps to keep meat fresh.
1, Carefully handle meat with clean hands, and always keep compartment clean.
2, Store meat in its original wrapper, if necessary, overwrap in plastic wrap, or
foil to prevent drying. Wrap fish tightly to prevent odor trander to other foods.
3. If spoilage ever occurs, disinfect the compartment with liquid chlorine bleach
following label directions. Then, rinse with a solution of baking soda, and water.
Rinsewith clear water, and dry.
The Chilled Air Duct can also switch sides, should you wish to move the split
cantilever shelf. To change sides:
• RemoveMeat Keeperdrawerandshelf. Removescrew, Graspairduct, pushand
tip back to "unlock" it from the air outlet box.
• Move air duct to the other side, and push into place. Reinstall screw.
• Replaceshelf and insert drawer.
Wine Rack (some models)
The wine rack stores bottles of wine, or single 2diter plastic bottles ofjuice or
soda pop. To install, slide wine rack onto the shelf with the curve facing in.To
remove, slide wine rack out.install on either side of a SpillSateTMshelf,

Keep your refrigerator and freezer cleanto prevent odor build-up. Wipe up anyspills
immediately and clean both sectionsat leasttwice ayear. Never usemetallic scouring
pads, brushes, abrasive cleaners or strong alkaline solutions on anysurface. Do not
wash any removable parts in a dishwasher.
Always unplug the power cord from the wall outlet before cleaning. Turning
the control to OFFdoes not disconnect power to the controls, light bulb, or other
electrical components,
Inside
Wash inside surfaces of the refrigerator and freezer with a solution or 2 tablespoons
baking soda in 1 quart warm water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Be sure to wring
excess water out of sponge or cloth before cleaning around the controls, light
bulb, or any electrical parts.
Wash removable parts with baking soda solution or mild detergent and warm water.
Do not use harsh cleaners on these surfaces. Rinseand drythoroughly. Cleanthe
door gaskets with mild suds, rinse with clear water and wipe dry. Do not use razor
blades or other sharp instruments which can scratch the appliance surface when
removingadhesive labels,Any glue left Fromthe tape or energy label canbe removed
with amixture orwarm water and mild detergent, or,touch the residue with the sticky
side of tape already removed, Do not remove the serial plate.
Outside
Wash the cabinet and handleswith warm water and mild liquid detergent. Rinsewell
and wipe dry with a clean soft cloth.
When moving the refrigerator, pullstraight out. Donot shift the refrigerator from side
to sideasthis maytear or gouge the rloorcovering. Irthe refrigerator hasanautomatic
icemaker, be careful not to move the refrigerator beyond plumbing connections.

DEFROST
WATER
PAN
Periodically clean the condenser (black tubes and wires on the back or tile
refrigerator). Using a vacuum with its dusting tool attachment, vacuum the coils to
remove dust build-up. Do not allow lint or dust to accumulate on the coils,
The defrost water pan is located at the bottom rear of the refrigerator on top of the
compressor (shown left). The pan should be cleaned periodically. Wipe clean with a
damp cloth.
Replacing the Light Bulb
To replace the light bulb:
1. Unpl/Jgthe refrigerator,
2. Wear gloves asprotection against possible broken glass.
3. Replaceold bulb with an appliance bulb of the same wattage.
4. Remember to plug the refrigerator back in.

Vacation and Moving Tips
Short vacations: Leavetile refrigerator operating during vacations of 1to 3weeks.
Useup allperishable itemsfrom the refrigerator section. Wrap andstore other items
in the freezer, if the unit has an automatic ice maker, turn off the ice maker,
Long vacations: Removeall rood and ice ifyou will be gone 1 month or more. Turn
thecontrol to OFFand disconnect the power. Ifthe unithasan automatic icemaker,
turn off the icemaker and turn the water supply valveto the closed position. Defrost
and cleanthe interior thoroughly. Leaveboth doors open to preventodor and mold
buildup. Block open if necessary.
Moving: When moving the refrigerator, follow these guidelines to prevent
damage:
•Remove all rood and other items from refrigerator and freezer
compartments, Empty the ice storage bin. Defrost and clean the
interior thoroughly.
• If a hand truck isused in moving, load the refrigerator from the side.
•Turn front rollers asfar up aspossible (some models). This will protect them
during sliding or moving.
• The cabinet should be well padded and handled with care, Do not drop.
Automatic Ice Maker Ifyour refrigerator hasan automatic icemaker, it will provide acontinuous supply of
icefor normal use. The automatic ice maker isan optional accessorywhich may be
installed in most models at any time. Call your local dealer rot installation.
After the plumbing connections have been completed, the water supply valve must
be opened. Placethe ice container under the ice maker, pushing it as far back as
possible. Lower the wire signal arm to its "down" or ON position. Because of new
plumbing connections, the first production of icecubes may bediscolored or havean
odd flavor. Throw the iceaway until the cubes made are free of discoloration and
taste. _ Water quality determinesyour icequa lity. It isbest to connect ice
maker to water that isNOT softened. Softening chemicals can damage ice maker.
To stop the ice maker, litt the wire signal arm until it clicks and locks in the "up"
or OFFposition. The ice maker turns off automatically when the icecontainer isfull,
If your model hasan adjustable freezer shelf, place the shelf so the wire signal arm
will hit the ice when the icecontainer isfull.

Ice Maker Tips
1 Icestored too long may develop an odd flavor Empty tile container and be sure

produce more ice.
2, Occasionally shake tile container to keep ice separated.
3. Keepthe wire signal arm in its r'up" or OFFposition until refrigerator isconnected

4, Certain sounds are normal when the ice maker is operating. They are:
Motor operation
Ice being loosened from the tray
Icebeing dropped into the container
Runningwater
Water valve opening and closing

5, Wash ice container in warm water with mild detergent. Rinsewell and dry.
6, Stop the ice maker when cleaning the freezer or for short vacations.
7. If tile ice maker will be turned off for a long period of time, turn the water supply
valve to the closed position.

Door Reversal
Instructions
Your refrigerator isequipped with reversible door hinges. Hinging of the door can be
changed to the opposite side anytime you wish. An envelope containing extra plastic
hod plugs is included in some models, Turn the refrigerator control to OFF,Remove
all food, bottles, and other items from the door. Begin with freezer door.
