INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the GE-PON ONU Equipment made by Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd.
This instruction manual describes the basic operations of the ONU Equipment. Read the instruction
manual carefully before operating the equipment for proper use of the unit. Store this manual for later
reference as needed.
This instruction manual is subject to change without notice.
Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. will not bear any responsibility for operation of the equipment.
No part of this manual may be copied or transcribed without permission.
This product is information technology equipment that falls within the category of Class B
(optical termination equipment) based on the standards of the Voluntary Control Council for
Interference by Information Technology Equipment (VCCI). This equipment assumes the use in
the home environment and may cause interference with nearby radios or TVs. Use the equipment

This equipment and instruction manual contains technologies related to strategic products
specified in the Foreign Exchange and Trade Control Law. Exportation of this equipment and/or
instruction manual requires approval in conformity to this law. Destroy the instruction manual

PROPER USE OF THE PRODUCT
The instructions below show important matters for safe use of this equipment. Read the
instructions carefully before using the equipment.

use of the product may result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION

・Do not use this equipment with methods or for purposes not described in the manual. Do not
disassemble, modify, or reproduce the equipment. Doing so may result in electric shock,
defects, or fire.
・Stop using the unit immediately and contact the dealer in the event of any deformation of the
shape, abnormal odor, or breakage. Do not open the lid.
・Use the supplied exclusive AC adapter for this the equipment.
Never use the equipment on any voltage other than the specified commercial power (100 VAC).
・Insert the power plug of the AC adapter fully to the end of the AC outlet.
Hold the AC adapter body when disconnecting the adapter from the AC outlet.
・Do not damage or modify the power cable. Do not place heavy objects on the power cord. Do not
heat, pull, or bend the cable. Failure to heed this warning may result in damage to the cable
leading to electric shock or fire.
・Disconnect the AC adapter from the AC outlet and contact the dealer immediately if the power
cable is damaged.
・Do not install this equipment or AC adapter in a damp or dusty location.
・Clean the AC adapter plug completely if it becomes dusty.
・Do not put any materials in the holes or gaps of the equipment. Disconnect the AC adapter from
the AC outlet and contact the dealer immediately if metal or water enters the equipment.
・Do not expose the equipment to intense impacts or vibrations. Disconnect the AC adapter from
the AC outlet and contact the dealer immediately if the equipment is exposed to impacts or
vibrations.
・Do not touch the equipment or AC adapter with wet hands to prevent damage and electric
shock.
・This equipment uses laser. Do not look into the end of the optical cable or optical connector.
This is a Class 1 laser product.

・Follow the instructions shown in this manual and install the equipment properly.
・Do not install the equipment near a heat source.
・Do not install the equipment in a vibrating, slanted, or unstable location.
・Do not install the equipment near equipment generating strong magnetic fields, such as a motor.
・Do not block the vent holes of the equipment.
・Do not place any object near the equipment. Failure to heed this warning may result in objects
dropping or falling from the equipment.
・Carry out wiring and connection with instruments in the method shown in this manual.
・Disconnect the LAN cable and AC adapter from the socket before moving the equipment. Do
not apply excessive force to the optical cables connected to the equipment.
・The optical cables are easily affected by bending or twisting forces. Handle with great care.
Excessive bending or twisting will break the cables.
・Do not expose the power cable to heat sources.
・Do not use benzene, thinner, or other organic solvents to clean the equipment.
・Observe the regulations and disposal method specified by the local government when disposing

BEFORE USING PRODUCT
(1) Preparation for installation
Stick the anti-slip rubber.
・Vertical installation: Attach the rubber in the specified positions on the bottom of the stay for vertical
installation.
・Horizontal installation: Attach the rubber in the specified positions on the equipment bottom.

Secure the stay for vertical installation to the equipment if the equipment must be installed vertically.
・Fit the arrow mark on the side of the equipment to that on the vertical installation stay when
attaching the vertical installation stay. * Insert the stay until a “click” is heard.
・Pull the hook on the bottom of the vertical installation stay outward to detach the vertical
installation stay.

(2) Connection
The user need not adjust any settings after installing the equipment. Connect the cables as shown
below and use the equipment.
・Plug the AC adapter into the AC outlet (100 VAC).
・Insert the modular RJ-45 plugs of the LAN cables into the LAN 1 and LAN 2 RJ-45 modular jacks on
the rear panel. * Insert the plugs until a “click” is heard.
・Connect the LAN cables to the user’s terminals (such as PCs).
* Bring the user’s terminals into the automatic negotiation mode.

(3) Caution
Do not install this equipment in a closed place. Leave a space of 20 mm or more around it.

(4) Check
Make sure that the lamps on the equipment are in the following condition after connection.

* Either LAN 1 (1000 Mbps) or LAN 1 (100 Mbps) lights according to the terminal conditions and
settings when the user’s terminal equipment is connected.
** When user’s terminal equipment is connected
See “TROUBLESHOOTING” below if the above status is not established even after waiting a while.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Check the following if communication is disabled or there is a possibility of equipment failure. Contact
the dealer if the equipment does not recover from the fault or in the event of another malfunction.

・Check that the LAN cable is connected properly.
・Check that the LAN cable in use is category 5e or superior.
・Check that the LAN cable in use is not broken or defective.
・Check that user’s terminal equipment is in the automatic negotiation
mode.
