Each appliance which leaves our factory is inspected
thoroughly to ensure that it functions properly and is in
perfect condition.

Safety and warning information
Before you switch ON the appliance
Please read the operating and installation instructions
carefully.
They contain important information on how to install, use
and maintain the appliance.
Keep all documentation for subsequent use or for the next
owner.
Technical safety
mWarning
This appliance contains a small quantity of
environmentally-friendly but flammable R600a refrigerant.
Ensure that the tubing of the refrigerant circuit is not
damaged during transportation and installation. Leaking
refrigerant may cause eye injuries or ignite.
If damage has occurred
zKeep naked flames and/or ignition sources away from
the appliance,
zpull out the mains plug,
zthoroughly ventilate the room for several minutes,
znotify customer service.
The more refrigerant an appliance contains, the larger the
room must be. Leaking refrigerant can form a flammable
gas-air mixture in rooms which are too small.
The room must be at least 1 m3 per 8 g of refrigerant.
The amount of refrigerant in your appliance is indicated on
the rating plate inside the appliance.

Important information when using the
appliance
zNever use electrical appliances inside the appliance
(e. g. heater, etc.).
Risk of explosion!
zNever use a steam cleaner to defrost or clean the
appliance! The steam may penetrate electrical parts
and cause a short-circuit.
Risk of electric shock!
zDo not store products which contain flammable
propellants (e. g. spray cans) or explosive substances
in the appliance.
Risk of explosion!
zDo not stand or support yourself on the base, drawers
or doors, etc.
zFor cleaning and exchanging the bulb, pull the mains
plug out or switch off the fuse. Do not pull out the
mains plug by tugging the cable.
Warning: When the appliance is switched off using
the temperature setting (Display: OFF), the supply of
current is not disrupted.
zBottles which contain a high percentage of alcohol
must be sealed and stored in an upright position.
zKeep plastic parts and the door seal free of oil and
grease. Otherwise, parts and door seal will become
porous.
zNever cover or block the ventilation openings for the
appliance.
zPeople who have limited physical, sensory or mental
abilities or inadequate knowledge must not use this
appliance unless they are supervised or given
meticulous instructions.
zDo not store bottled or canned drinks (especially
carbonated drinks) in the freezer compartment.
Bottles and cans may explode!
zNever put frozen food straight from the freezer
compartment into your mouth. Risk of low-
temperature burns!
zAvoid prolonged touching of frozen food, ice or the
evaporator pipes, etc. risk of low-temperature
burns!
zDo not scrape off hoarfrost or stuck frozen food with
a knife or pointed object. You could damage the
refrigerant tubing. Leaking refrigerant may ignite or
cause eye injuries.
zOnly customer service may change the power cord
and carry out any other repairs. Improper installations
and repairs may put the user at considerable risk.
zOnly original parts supplied by the manufacturer may
be used. The manufacturer guarantees that only these
parts satisfy the safety requirements.
Children in the household
zDo not allow children to play with the appliance!
zIf the appliance features a lock, keep the key out of the
reach of children.
General regulations
The appliance is suitable

The appliance is suppressed according to EU Directive 89/
336/EEC.
The refrigeration circuit has been checked for leaks.
This product complies with the relevant safety regulations for

Information concerning disposal
Disposal of packaging
The packaging protects your appliance from damage
during transit. All utilised materials are environmentally safe
and recyclable. Please help us by disposing of the
packaging in an environmentally friendly manner.
Please ask your dealer or inquire at your local authority
about current means of disposal.
mWarning
Keep children away from packaging and its parts. Danger
of suffocation from collapsible boxes and foil!
Disposal of your old appliance
Old appliances are not worthless rubbish! Valuable raw
materials can be reclaimed by recycling old appliances.
This appliance has been identified in accordance
with the European directive 2002/96/EG on
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment –
WEEE. The directive specifies the framework for
an EU-wide valid return and recycling of old
appliances.
mRedundant appliances:
zCut off the power cord and discard with the mains
plug.
zTake off the doors.
zDo not take out the trays and receptacles: children
are therefore prevented from climbing in!
Do not allow children to play with the appliance once
it has spent ist useful life. Danger of suffocation!
Refrigerators contain refrigerant and gases in the
insulation. Refrigerant and gases must be disposed of
professionally. Ensure that tubing of the refrigerant circuit
is not damaged prior to proper disposal.

Fascia
A On/off button O
Serves to switch the appliance on and off.
mCaution
The appliance is not seperated from the mains when it is
switched off by pressing the on/off button O.
B Ice maker button :
Serves to switch the ice maker on and off.

Used to switch off the warning signal.

Serves to switch the fast freezing function on and off.

This button starts and ends the setup mode. If the setup

A sound can be heard every time a button is actuated
if this function is activated (ON) in the sound menu
during the setup mode.

Installation
Installation location
A dry, well ventilated room is suitable as an installation
location. The installation location should neither be
exposed to direct sunlight nor near a heat source, e.g. a
cooker, radiator, etc. If installation next to a heat source is
unavoidable, use a suitable insulating plate or observe the
following minimum distances to a heat source:
z3 cm to an electric cooker.
z30 cm to an oil or solid-fuel cooker.
The floor on which the appliance is to be installed must be
rigid. If required, reinforce the floor. To ensure that the ice
maker functions correctly, the appliance must be upright.
Observe ambient temperature and
ventilation
The climatic class can be found on the rating plate. It states
the room temperature within which the appliance can be
operated.
Ventilation
Never cover the ventilation openings in the base panel.
The cooling motor otherwise has to increase ist output,
and this increases the electricity consumption.
Fixing
For secure installation, the appliance screwed to
neighbouring kitchen furniture and/or units.
It is very important therefore that all bordering furniture
and/or units are fixed securely to the floor and/or walls.
If making structural changes fix the appliance in place
again corresponding to the the installation instructions.
Installation surface
A load-bearing base is necessary because of the heavy
weight of the fully laden appliance.
Refer to the following appliance weight table when loading
fully:
– 45.7 cm appliance 250 kg
– 61.0 cm appliance 350 kg
– 76.2 cm appliance 425 kg
In case of doubt, consult an architect or structural
engineer.
Installing and connecting the appliance
mCaution!
The appliance should only be installed and connected
by a recognised installation engineer according to the
installation instructions belonging to the appliance.
After installing the appliance, wait at least ½ hour until the
appliance starts up. During transportation the oil in the
compressor may have flowed into the refrigeration system.
Before switching on the appliance for the first time, clean
the interior of the appliance (see “Cleaning the appliance”).

Electrical connection
Do not use extension cables or distributors.
The plug to secure the appliance must be freely
accessible. Connect the appliance to a 220-240 V / 50 Hz
ac current via a plug which has been properly installed.
The socket must be fused with a 10 to 16 A fuse.
For appliances operated in non-European countries,
the identification plate should be checked whether the
electric supply and the current model stated match the
vales of the mains supply. The rating plate is situated
in the bottom left-hand side of the appliance. The
power cord may be replaced by a technician only.
mWarning
Never connect the appliance to electronic energy
saver plugs or to power inverters which convert the
direct current to 230 V alternating current (e.g. solar
equipment, power supplies on ships).
Factory settings
Upon leaving the factory, the appliance has been supplied
with the following settings:
zFascia language: English
zTemperature unit: °C
zThe freezer compartment temperature: –18 °C
Note
The factory settings (language, temperature unit) can be
changed in the setup mode.
Switching on the appliance
zPress the on/off button O.
The appliance starts to cool down when switched on for
the first time. When the door is opened, the interior light
comes on.
Note
The preset temperatures (factory settings) are reached
after several hours.
Do not put any food in the appliance beforehand!
To change the set temperatures –> see “Setting the
temperature”.
Selecting the temperature
The temperature can be set from –14 °C to –24 °C.
We recommend a setting of –18 °C.
The temperature setting can be changed using the
+(warmer) or –(cooler) setting buttons. The temperature
can be set at 1 °C intervals.
To set the freezer compartment temperature:
zActivate the setup mode with the button <or >.
The FREEZER symbol is displayed.
zSet the desired temperature using the +(warmer)
or –(cooler) setting buttons.

Set the language
When the appliance is operated, all messages are
displayed in fascia in English.
Alternatively, the display languages can be selected
corresponding to the table on page 15.
In order to change the display language:
zPress setup button W.
zPress the selection button >, until ENGLISH is
displayed.
zPress the +or –setting button, until the desired
language is displayed.
zPress the Wsetup-button, in order to store the
settings. The set temperature is displayed again in the
fascia.
Door alarm
If an appliance door is left open, an alarm signal is emitted
after one minute and a corresponding alarm message
appears in the fascia.
zClose the door.
Pressing the alarm button .switches the signal off. If the
door is not closed properly again, the alarm signal will be
emitted after one minute once more.
Variable interior design
You can vary the shelves inside the appliance and the
containers in the door to suit your requirements.
Shelves
The height of the glass shelves can be adjusted.
zLift the shelf front and move it upwards or downwards
into the guiding positions.
zLower the shelf front to the desired height.
The holders engage into the guiding positions.
Removing the shelves:
Lift the shelf front and move it into the guiding positions as
far as the openings. Remove the shelf forwards.
Place the shelf into the guiding positions openings and
press downwards. Set the shelf to the desired height.

Door storage compartment
zLift the container and remove.
zPlace the containers at the desired heights and press
downwards.
Drawers
To take out, lift the drawers slightly and take out.
To place in, lift the front of the drawers slightly and place
into the chest of drawers.
Lower the drawer and slide it backwards.
Ice cube container
For storing larger amounts of food, it is possible to remove
the ice cube container.
Note:
Before removing the ice cube container, switch the ice
maker off, see “Ice maker”.

Fast freezing
The fast freezing function is ideal when storing larger
amounts of food. It should be activated 4–6 hours before
placing food in the freezer. 24 hours are necessary when
using the maximum freezer capacity fully.
This function is activated by pressing the fast freezing
button 3.3.
The usymbol appears in the fascia under fast
freezing temperature.
The fast freezing function ends:
– by pressing the fast freezing button 3again;
– by activating the eco function;
– by activating the holiday mode;
– by activating the sabbatical mode.
After 2 days the appliance automatically switches
back to the temperature which was set before fast
freezing.
Setup mode
There are menus for adapting the appliance to the
individual user requirements. These adaptions are carried
out in the setup mode.
To activate the setup mode:
zPress setup button W.
The first menu (temperature unit) is displayed in the fascia.
To switch to the next menu:
zPress the selection button <or >. The next menu is
displayed and its current setting (mostly oor p).
To make a selection within the setting options of a menu:
zPress the setting button +or –.
A changed setting is stored, if the next menu is
selected using <or >.
To deactivate the setup mode:
zPress setup button W.
All of the changed settings are stored.
If no button is selected within 20 seconds, the setup mode
ends automatically. All of the changed settings are stored.
The set temperature is displayed again in the fascia.

Menus in the setup mode
Temperature unit
The temperature can be displayed in degrees Celsius (°C)
or degrees Fahrenheit (°F).
zPress setup button W.
The first menu (temperature unit) is displayed.
zPress the +or –setting button in order to switch
between degrees Fahrenheit (°F) and degrees
Celsius (°C).
zPress the setup-button W, in order to store the
settings. The set temperature is displayed again in
the fascia.
Language setting
When the appliance is operated, all messages are
displayed in fascia in English.
Alternatively, the display languages can be selected
corresponding to the table above.
zPress setup button W.
zPress the selection button >, until ENGLISH is
displayed.
zPress the +or –setting button, until the desired
language is displayed.
zPress the setup button W, in order to store the
settings. The set temperature is displayed again in

Energy saving mode
If the energy saving function (eco function) is activated,
the appliance switches to energy saving operation.
This energy saving function is preset at the factory in order
to reduce energy consumption. The background
illumination of the fascia is likewise reduced.
To switch the energy saving function on:
zPress setup button W.
zPress the selection button >, until ECO MODE and the
current setting (o) is displayed.
zPress the +or –setting button, in order to reset the
setting.
zPress the Wsetup button, in order to store the
settings.
The word ECONOMY is displayed in the fascia.
This function is then ended:
– by switching the eco function off in the setup mode,
– by activating the fast freeze function,
– by changing the target temperature of the appliance,
– by switching the appliance off using the
on/off button O.
Holiday mode
If leaving the appliance for a long period of time, you can
switch the appliance over to the energy-saving holiday
mode.
Holiday mode settings:
– The appliance works in energy saving mode
(see “Energy saving mode”);
– The interior illumination is switched off;
– The fast freeze function is ended (if activated).
To switch the holiday mode on:3.
zPress holiday button $.
The VACATION symbol appears in the fascia under the
eco-temperature preset at the factory.
To switch the holiday mode off:
zPress holiday button $.
The previous settings and temperature values are
once again activated.
Sabbatical mode
Sabbatical mode settings:
– The fast freeze function is ended (if activated);
– the accoustic signal is switched off when the button is
actuated (if activated);
– The interior illumination is switched off;
– the background illumination of the fascia is switched
off.
To switch the sabbatical mode on:

zPress and hold the fast freeze button 3button.
zPress holiday button $.
zKeep the fast freeze button 3pressed for a further
3seconds.
The symbol VACATION flashes on the display panel.
The background illumination in the fascia is switched
off. SABBATH is displayed in the fascia.
The sabbatical mode is switched on.
To switch the sabbatical mode off:
zPress holiday button $.
The previous settings and temperature values are
once again activated.
Freezing and storing food
Purchasing frozen food
When purchasing frozen food, observe the following:
– Check that the packaging is not damaged.
– Check the sell-by date.
– The temperature of the supermarket freezer should be
–18 °C or lower. If not, the shelf life of the frozen food
is reduced.
– Purchase deep-frozen food last. Wrap food in
newspaper or place in a cool bag and take home.
– At home immediately place deep-frozen food in the
freezer compartment. Use the deep-frozen food
before the sell-by date runs out
– Do not refreeze thawed food. Exception: If the food
has been used for a ready meal (boiling or frying), this
ready meal can be refrozen.
Storing deep-frozen food
If a lot of food is to be stored, the drawers can be taken out
and food can be stacked directly in the compartments.
Usable capacity
Information concerning the effective contents can be found
on the identification plate.
Freezing deep-frozen food
Freeze fresh and undamaged food only. To prevent food
from losing its flavour or drying out, wrap the food in airtight
film or place in containers. Food should be frozen solid as
quickly as possible.

Packing food correctly:
zPlace food in packaging.
zPress out all the air.
zSeal package tight.
zLabel the wrapping with the contents and date.
The following products are not suitable for wrapping
food:
Wrapping paper, greaseproof paper, cellophane, bin liners
and used shopping bags.
The following products are suitable for wrapping food:
Plastic film, polyethylene blown film, aluminium foil and
freezer tins. These products are available from specialist
outlets.
The following products are suitable for sealing the
wrapped food:
Rubber bands, plastic clips, string, coldresistant adhesive
tape etc.
Bags and polyethylene blown film can be sealed with a film
sealer.
Shelf life of frozen food
The storage period depends on the type of produce.
At a mean temperature:
Thawing frozen food
Depending on the type and application, select one of the
following options:
– at room temperature
– in the refrigerator
– in an electric oven, with/without hot-air fan
– in the microwave
Note:
Do not refreeze food which is beginning to thaw or which
has already thawed. The food cannot be refrozen until it
has been prepared (boiled or fried).
Maximum freezing capacity
Food should be frozen solid as quickly as possible.
Only then will vitamins, nutritional values, appearance and
flavour be retained.
Information about the max. freezing capacity within
24 hours can be found on the rating plate.
The maximum freezing capacity is reached in the upper
area of the freezer space.
Fish, sausage, ready meals and
cakes and pastries
up to 6 months
Cheese, poultry, meat up to 8 months
Vegetables, fruit up to 12 months

Ice maker
The ice maker makes ice cubes.
The ice maker starts to make ice cubes as soon as the
appliance has reached the set temperature.
If the ice cube container is full, the ice maker automatically
switches off.
In order to prevent the ice cubes from “sticking together”
a metal endless screw rotates in the ice cube container
at periodic intervals (agitation function).
The ice maker can make approx. 1.3 kg ice cubes within
24 hours.
Do not place bottles or food in the cube container in
order to cool them quickly. The ice maker may block
and be damaged.
Switch on the ice maker
zMake sure that ice maker container is its place and
locked into position.
zPress the ice maker button :on the control panel.
The symbol ICE is lit on the display panel.
Important note:
If the ice cube maker is used for the first time and/or a long
period of not being used, do not use the ice which is
produced in the first day for hygiene reasons. Throw the
ice cubes away and clean the container!
Switch the ice maker off
Note:
Before switching off the ice maker, it is most important that
you switch the water supply to the appliance off for a few
hours.
To switch the ice maker off:
zPress the ice maker button :on the control panel.
Ice and water dispenser
The following can be dispensed as required:
–cooledwater
– Ice cubes
–crushedice
mWarning
Do not use fragile receptacles for dispensing water or
ice – risk of injury from broken glass!
Do not reach into the discharge opening –
Risk of injury from the cutting blades!
Note:
– The ice and water dispenser only works when the
appliance is connected to the water mains.
– To avoid splashes bring receptacles as close as
possible to the discharge opening when removing
water and ice.
When switching on your new appliance, observe the
following:
When the appliance has been connected, there are still air
bubbles in the lines.
Run off drinking water and pour away until water can be
dispensed without bubbles.
Pour away the first 10–15 glasses.
Drinking water quality
All materials used in the drinks dispenser are odourless
and tasteless.
If the water has an aftertaste, this may be caused by:
– Mineral and chlorine content of the drinking water.
– Material of the domestic water line or connection line.
– Freshness of the drinking water (if water has not been
dispensed for a long time, the water may have
a “stale” taste. In this case fill approx. 15 glasses
of water and throw away.
The water filter fitted into the appliance only filters
particles from the supplied water, not bacteria or
microbes.

Ice and water dispenser control panel
The buttons on the control panel are illuminated.
Dispensing water
zPlace a suitable receptacle under the discharge
opening.
zPress the request water button. Dispensing ends,
when the button is released.
Tip:
The water from the water dispenser is cooled to a palatable
temperature. If you would like the water colder, place ice
cubes in the glass before dispensing the water.
Dispensing ice
mWarning
Do not use the ice dispenser for longer than 3 minutes
within a time period of 15 minutes. Wait for a few
minutes more before ordering more. Risk of damage to
the appliance!
zPlace a suitable receptacle under the discharge
opening.
zPress the request ice cubes button. Dispensing ends,
when the button is released.
or
zPress crushed ice request button. Dispensing ends,
when the button is released.
Note:
Release the ice dispensing button, when the receptacle is
filled approx half-way. Ice in the discharge may cause the
