Introduction
Thank you or purchase o a Gared Sports Hoopmaster LT Portable
backstop. To ensure that our equipment will provide years o use to you, we
are including this installation, operation and maintenance o your portable
backstop.
Please note that a bill o materials is being included in this guide.
Please check that all o the parts called out on the Bill o Materials are
present prior to beginning assembly and setup. Please do not substitute or
actory parts. Please contact the Gared Sports customer service department
and allow them to determine i substitute parts are acceptable.
It is recommended that an individual who has been properly trained
per orm assembly and set up o the backstop. No one under the age o 18
should attempt assembly or set up o the unit, unless supervised.
To prevent normal wear and tear rom shortening the li e o the unit,
preventative maintenance inspections and repairs should be per ormed at
least once a year. I the units are subject to high or unusual usage,
inspections should be scheduled to occur more requently. I items are
ound to be noncon orming, replacements can be ordered rom Gared Sports
or one o our authorized dealers. When contacting Gared Sports, please
have in ormation regarding the dealer/installer who sold the unit, the name
o the project, and any applicable warranty in ormation.

Safety
Read and understand the ollowing warnings to prevent possible personal injury and
potential damage to the equipment during assembly, setup, and operation.
Before proceeding with assembly, read all instructions and assembly procedures. Make
sure all parts have been received and are not damaged.

ASSEMBLY
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Before proceeding to the first step, make sure at least three individuals are
available to assist with the mounting of the backboard to the unit. A minimum
of two, preferably three, individuals is required for safe assembly of the
backboard to the unit.
1. Position the backboard to the horizontal boom and install a 3/8-16 x 2” bolt with
lock washer and lat washer in the holes o the mounting plate in the backboard as
shown in igure 2. Tighten these bolts securely.

2. Attach the backboard brace yokes to the brackets on top hal o board, using M10 x 40
hex head bolts with lat washers, lock washers, and nuts. Secure braces to bracket on
main arm with M10 x 50 hex bolt, lock washer and nuts. Place bottom support bracket
on and tighten in place with (2) M10 x 160 hex head bolts with washers, nuts and lock
washers. See Figure 3

3) Remove the shipping bracket rom the main boom and
store the bracket, threaded rods, and hardware in a
location or uture use when replacing backboards or
storing the unit.

4) To set the unit the loor pads must be locked in place. Stepping on them can do
this. The pads are ound at all our corners. Leveling can be done with the
adjustment screw.
ADJUSTMENT SCREW SETTING FLOOR PADS
5) Using masking tape and pencil, Mark the location o the center o the court 4’-0”
rom the court baseline (re er to igure 5). From this center mark, establish a
mark 3’-0” to the le t and another mark 3’-0” to the right. These marks will be
used to align the ace o bank to the court.

6) Push the unit to the playing location on the court. Raise the boom to
the 10’-0” playing position. Insert the sa ety pin into the sliding latch
bar at the rear o the unit. Check the goal height at the base o the
goal.

7) To level the backboard in the horizontal plane, loosen, (do not remove), the two
goal carriage bolts and the two 3/8 bolts at the bottom o the board mounting
bracket that attach the bracket to the backboard. Level the board and tighten all
our bolts securely.
NOTE:
Do not remove the goal bolts or the 3/8” board mounting bolts. It is only necessary to
loosen these bolts. Once the board has been leveled, make sure these bolts are securely
tightened.
8) To level the backboard in the vertical plane, loosen the two bolts at the rear yoke
brace mount on top o the boom. Re er to Figure 7. Using a wrench, adjust the
leveling bolt in the board-mounting bracket until the backboard is plumb. Tighten the
locking nuts on the leveling bolt. Tighten the two bolts at the rear yoke brace mount
securely.

8) Attach plumb bobs to the ront corners o the backboard. Plumb bobs should
hang down rom the corners to where they are almost touching the loor.
10) Check plumb bobs with marks that were located in step 5. I the plumb bobs do
not line up exactly with the marks on the loor, adjust the location o the unit
accordingly.
11) Once the unit is relocated and the plumb bobs are exactly on the marks located in
step 5, recheck all dimensions to make sure the 10’-0” playing height is correct
and the ace o the backboard is 4’-0” in ront o the court baseline.

12) Mark the loor or the locator pins located at the ront
inside corners o the base unit.
13) Install the locator bushings in the loor, recessed lush
with the loor playing sur ace.
14) Mark and install the rear loor anchors to
match the rear tie down plate, item 13, as
shown using ½-13 hex bolts into the loor
anchors.
15) Attach the backboard padding to the backboard.

14) Raise the unit to the playing position and insert the sa ety
pin into the sliding locking bar.
15) Install the Upright pad, item 23, to the ront upright using
bracket, item 28, and ¼-20 pan head screws.
16) Install side pad using brackets, item 22, and the ¼-20 pan
head screws. The two lower clips will be installed to the pad be ore hanging on
the base unit and the upper clip will be installed with the side pad hung on the
base unit.
17) Install ront side pads, items 29. They will be held in place by a hook and loop
strip.
18) Install top covers, item 26 & 27, as shown.

Operation
1. Be ore operating the unit, read all caution, warning, and in ormation labels.
2. To raise the unit rom the stored position.
a. Make sure the unit is in the correct position on the court
and drop locator pins to engage bushings in the loor.
b. Attach rear anchor bar to the loor anchors.
c. Step on the setting pad levers to engage the latches.
d. Remove the sa ety pin rom the slide bar. Loosen the
locking knob.
e. Using the handle on the top o the rear upright, li t the
upright and rotate to the ull up position.
. Install the sa ety pin into the slide tube locking bar and
tighten locking knob.
3. To lower the unit rom the playing position.
a. Loosen the locking knob and remove the sa ety
pin rom the slide tube locking bar.
b. Using the handle on the top o the rear upright,
pull the upright back and slowly rotate it to the ull
down position.
c. Install the sa ety pin into the slide tube locking
bar. Tighten the locking knob.
4. I the unit is to be moved to storage:
a. Remove the rear anchor bar
b. Retract the locating pins.
c. Raise the setting pads until the unit is ully on all our
casters.
d. I board is to be removed,
the shipping brackets must
be installed irst.
5. Roll the unit to the storage acility.

Maintenance
1. General inspection o equipment when used should be per ormed to ensure no
catastrophic ailures have occurred during the course o use between yearly
inspections.
2. It is recommended that yearly inspections be conducted to determine i any
bolts or other hardware has become worn or loosened.
3. During yearly inspections:
Check all joints to make sure they are tight and secure.
Check all spring adjustment bolts to make
sure they are tight and have not moved.
Check the board and goal mounting bolts
to make sure they are tight.
Any loose bolts or nuts should be tightened.
Check the net or wear.
Check or pad wear.
Replace any components that are missing or worn.
