Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a water heater that has not been used

Ifthe hot water has not been usedfor two weeks or more, prevent the possibility of damage or injury

the DELAYSTARTpad to choose the number of hours gou want to delag the start of
the cgcle;then pressSTART/RESET.
After closingthe door,the machine will count down and automaticallg start at the
correct time.
NOTE:Tocancel the DELAYSTARTselection beforethe cgcle begins, pressthe DELAY
STARTpad until the displag shows the estimated cgcle time for the selectedcgcle

About the dishwasher control panel.
_Enhancements (continued)
ADDED HEAT When selected, the cgcle will run longer with heating element on to improve both wash
{EXTRA HOTWASH} and drg performance.
NOTE: Cannot be selected with RINSE ONLV cgcle.
PREWASH For use with heavilg soiled and/or dried-on, baked-on soils. This option MUST be
(on some models) selected PRIOR to starting the cgcle. This option adds 15 minutes to the cgcle time.
NOTE: Cannot be selected with RINSE ONLV cgcle.
HEATED DRY Shuts offthe drging heat option. Dishes will air drg naturallg (PDW8900 Series) or
Light Off fan drg (PDW9700 and PDW9900 Series) to save energg.
HEATED DRY Turns the heating element on for fast drging. This will extend the total cgcle time bg 15
minutes for the ANTI-BACTERIAL cgcle, 8 minutes for the SPEED cgcle, 15 minutes for
the PLASTICS cgcle, 30 minutes for the CHINA CRVSTALcgcle, and 38 minutes for all
other cgcles.
NOTE: Cannot be selected with RINSE ONLV cgcle.
LOCK You can lock the controls to prevent ang selections from being made. Or gou can lock
191 the controls after gou have started a cgcle.
Children cannot occidentollg start dishwasher bg touching pods with this option
selected.
To unlock the dishwasher controls, press and hold the HEATED DRV pad for 3 seconds.
To lock the dishwasher, press and hold the HEATED DRV pad for 3 seconds. The light
above the LOCK pad will turn off.
RESET To change a cgcle after washing starts...
PDW8900 Series: Touch the START/RESETpad to cancel the cgcle. The START/RESETlight
will flash while the water is pumped out if needed. This takes approximatelg 2 minutes.
PDW9700 end PDW9900 Series: Open the door slowlg to prevent splash-out. Touch
the START/RESETpad to cancel the cgcle. If the START/RESETlight isflashing, close
the door until the water pumps out (this takes approximatelg 2 minutes) and the light
stops flashing.
When the light stops flashing, the dishwasher can be reprogrammed and restarted.
ElStart
PDW8900 Series
Closethe dishwasher door and selectthe cgcle and desiredenhancements. Touchthe START/RESET
pad to begin the cgcle.Water fill begins immediatelg, and approximatelg 60 secondslater the wash
action begins.
When the dishwasher door isfullg closed,the control panel lightswill displagthe last settings gou
selected.If gou don't want to change ang of the settings,simplg touch the START/RESETpad to begin
the cgcle.
If the door is closed,the indicator lightswill tum off ifthe START/RESETpad is not selectedwithin 5 minutes.
Toactivate the displag,open and closethe door or pressang pad.
PDW9700 and PDW9900 Series
After selecting the cgcle and desiredenhancements, touch the START/RESETpad to readg the
dishwasher to begin the cgcle.Closethe door to start the cgcle or begin the DELAYSTARTcountdown.
When the cgcle starts, the water fill begins and approximatelg 60 secondslater the wash action begins.
Thedishwasherwill alwags displag gout last selection and enhancements. If gou don't want to change
the settings,simplg touch the START/RESETpad to readg the dishwasher and closethe door to begin
the cgcle.
Also,if a power failure occurs NORMALand HEATEDDRYwill automaticallg be programmed. Makeang
new selections and touch the START/RESETpad to begin the new cgcle.
If the door isopened,the indicator lights will turn off ifthe START/RESETpad is not selectedwithin
5 minutes.Toactivate the displag, open and closethe door or touch ang pad.

TheCLEANlight is illuminated when the selected cgcle and enhancements are complete. Thelight will
stag ONuntil a pad is pressedor the door isopened and then closed.
PDW9700 and PDW9900Series
TheCLEANlight is illuminated and a double beep will sound when the selected cgcle and enhancements
are complete. You mag remove the dishes at ang time. Note the high-efficiencg fan will run quietly for 30
minutes to 4 hours (depending on selected cgcle)after the CLEANlight is illuminated to continue drying
the dishes.Thefan can be turned off bg opening the door and pressingang kegpad.
NOTE:Toturn off the audible end-of-cgcle signal(or re-activate it if it was previously disengaged),press
the HEATEDDRYpad 5 times within 3 seconds.A triple beep will soundto indicate the end-of-cgcle beep
option has been toggled.
NOTE:If you are not usingthe SmartDispenseand you want to turn the LOWDETERGENTLEDlight off,
pressthe ADDEDHEATpad 5 times within 3 seconds.Youwill hear three beeps,then the light will go off.
Youcan turn the light back on bg pressing the ADDEDHEATpad 5 times within 3 seconds.

What It Means
Cgcle hasbeen interrupted bg pressingthe START/RESETpad. Lightwill quit
flashing after the dishwasher automatically drains out the water

and ElectrasoF powder, liquid or gel automatic
dishwasher detergents are approved.
• For your SmartDispense Detergent Dispenser, use
only the recommended detergents listed on page
10 of this manual.
•Jet Dry ®and CascadeCrystal Cleare to remove
spots and prevent new film buildup on gour dishes,
glasses,flatware, cookware and plastic.
• Cascade_"_Plastic Booster" to remove red staining
insidegour dishwasher that can come from some
tomato-based stains.
• Only useliquid or gel automatic dishwasher
detergent in the SmartDispense.
•Cerama Bryte _"_StainlessSteelAppliance Cleaner
to clean the stainless steel panel of GEand Profile"
stainlessexterior dishwashers.
•Jet Dry ®Dishwasher Cleaner to help remove
some hard water mineral stains that can occur
in hard water conditions,

Using the dishwasher.
Check the Water Temperature
The entering water should be at least 120°F and not more than 150°F for effective cleaning and to
prevent dish damage. Check the water temperature with o candy or meat thermometer. Turn on the
hot water faucet nearest the dishwasher, place the thermometer in o gloss and let the water run
continuously into the glass until the temperature stops rising.
UseJet-Dry ®or Cascade Crystal Clear®RinseAgent
Jet-Dry ®or Cascade Crystal Clear _rinse agent improves drying, removes spots and prevents new
film buildup on your dishes, glasses, flatware, coot<ware and plastic.
Filling the Dispenser Rinse Aid Setting
The rinse agent dispenser holds 5.5 oz. of rinse agent.
Under normal conditions, this will last approximately
one month. Try to keep it full, but do not overfill.

midpoint. If there are ringsof calcium (hardwater)

CAUTION! Absolutely donot add
powder detergent, tablets or any liquid soap or
detergent normally usedfor washing hands or dishes
in a sink.Only use liquid or gel automatic detergent
specifically designedfor usein an automatic
dishwasher.
Toopen the dispenserfor filling, pushdown and turn
the blue cap counterclockwise until the cap comes off.
The dispenserwill hold 45 ozof liquid dishwasher
detergent (standard sizebottle).
Turn clockwise.
When full,replace the cap and turn clockwiseuntil
tight. If residueis left on the door,it will be washed
off in the next cycle.Tighten cap until sealed.
An indicator light will turn on to notify you when the
dispenser needsto be filled again.After filling, the light
will not turn off until the door isclosed.A full dispenser
will last approximately 2 months for the average user.

On dishwashers with a 12-button front control panel,

same time for 3 seconds.

NOTE:Usingadetergent that isnot specifically
designedfor dishwashers will causethe dishwasherto
fill with suds.During operation, thesesudswill spill out
of the dishwashervents, coveringthe kitchenfloor and
making the floor wet.
Because somanu detergent containers lookalike,
store the dishwasher detergent in a separate space
from all other cleaners.Showanuone who mau
usethe dishwasherthe correct detergent and
where it is stored.
Whilethere will be no lasting damage to the
dishwasher,uour disheswill not get clean using
a dishwashing detergent that is not formulated
to work with dishwashers.
Before You Use Your SmartDispense

Priorto the first use,the dishwasher needsto
be calibrated for water hardness.Pleasefollow
directions below to calibrate the dishwasherto
the hardness of uour tap water
Determine the hardness of your tap water
In the bag containing these instructions, UOU
should find a water hardness test strip package.Read
the instructions on the package,remove the test strip
and follow the instructions to determine the hardness
levelof uour tap water Youwill usethis information to
calibrate uour dishwasher to dispensethe optimal
amount of detergent.

For best dishwoshing results, follow these loading guidelines. Features and appearance of racks and silverware
baskets may vary from gout model.
Upper Rack
Although the upper rack isfor glasses,cups
and saucers,pots and pans can be placed
in this rack for effective cleaning. Cupsand
glassesfit best along the sides.Thisis also
a secure place for dishwasher plastics.
Theutility shelf (onsome models) may be
placed in the up or down position to add
flexibility.A wine glass holder (onsome
models)secureswine glassesfor best
washability.
Somemodels have contoured metal cup
shelvesthat can secure up to 12 wine glasses
(asshown).
Somemodels have an Angled RackSystem,
which allows you to angle your dishes,such
as coffee mugs,for better cleaning and
quicker drying. To position the tines,pull the
leverforward then drop the tines into
position,then releasethe levee

AdJustable Upper Rack
Thestandard position of your adjustable rack
is"up" which allows for maximum clearance
for your taller items in the lower rack. If you
have taller wine glasses,tumblers or other
items to placein the upper rack,you may
want to adjust the rack to the lower position.
Tolower the rack, support the weight of the
rack with your hands asshown and press
both finger pads about 1/4" toward the inside
of the rack asindicated and guide the rack
down to its lower position.
Toraise the rack to the "up" position,pull up
on the center of the rack sideframe until the
rack locksinto place.
While usinga Single Rack Wash cycle, if
you havetaller glasses,10"plates,tumblers
or other items, you may want to adjust your
upper rack to a lower position.

Lower Rack
Thelower rack isbest usedfor plates,saucers
and cookware, Large items such as broiler
pans and baking racks shouldgo along the
left-hand side. Loadplatters, pots and bowls
along the sides,in corners or in the back.The
soiledsideof items shouldface the center of
the rack.If necessarg,oversizedglassesand
mugs can be placedin the lower rack to
maximize loading flexibility.
Also,be careful not to let a portion of an item
such as a pot or dish handle extend through
the bottom rack.Thiscould block the wash
arm and cause poor washing results.
