is first installed, there may be air in the water
line system. Press the dispenser arm for at least

to push it firefly into place. If it does not
go all the way back, remove it and rotate
tile drive mechanism 1/4 turn. Then push
the drawer back again.
Important Facts About Your Dispenser
iJi::Do not ::1(1(1ice ti'om trm:s or bags to
the storage bin. It may not crush or
dispense well.
iJi::Avoid ove_tilling glass with ice and use ()I
narrow glasses. Backed-up ice can jam tile
chute or catlse tile door in tile chute to
ti'eeze shut. If ice is blocking the chute,
poke it through with a wooden spoon.
iJi::Beverages and fi)ods should not be
quick-chilled in the ice storage bin.
Cans, bottles or fi)od packages in tile
storage bin may cause tile icemaker
or auger to jam.

the glass, put the glass close to, but not
touching, the dispenser opening.
iJi::Some crushed ice may be dispensed even
though you selected CUBEDICE.This
hapl)ens occasionally when a low cubes
have been left in tile crusher.

and neutralizes odoI_. Rinse and wipe dry.

During yearly cleaning, renlove botton/
fl'eezer pan and fltlsh a sohltion of baking
soda--1 teaspoon (5 inl) and 2 cups (500
n/l) (ff hot (not boiling) watei_through
the drain line with the help of a nleat
bastei: This will help elinlinate odor and
reduce the likelihood (ff a clogged drain
line./t drain becon/es clogged, use a nleat
baster and baking soda sohltion to t0rce the
clog through the drain line.
Avoid cleaning cold glass shelves with hot water
because the extreme temperature difference may
cause them to break. Handle glass shelves

When pushing the refrigerator back, make sure
you don't rofl over the power cord or icemaker
supply line (onsome models).
Preparing for Vacation

food and tmplug the refl_igeratoi: Clean the
interior with a baking soda sohKion _ff one
tablespoon (15 ml) of baking soda to one
quart (l 1) of watei: i,eave the dooi_ open.
Set the icelnaker power switch to the 0(off)
position and shut off the water supply to
the i'efl_igelatoi:
If the telnperamre can drop below
fi'eezing, have a qualified servicer drain the
water supply systein (on soine Inodels) to
prevent serious propei_y dalnage due to
flooding.
Preparing to Move
Secure all loose itelns such as grille, shelves and di'awei5 by taping theln securely

Be sure the refrigerator stays in an upright position during moving.

REFRIGERATOR LOCATION
•Do not install tile refl'igerator where tile telnperamre
will go below 60°F (l 6°C) because it will not itm often

iNSTALLiNG THE WATER LiNE
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
P.ecommended copper water supply kits are WXSX2,
WX8X3 or WX8X4, depending on the amount of
tubing you need. Approved plastic water supply lines
are GE SmartConnect'" Refl'igerator Tubing
(WX08X10002, WX08X10006, WX08X10015 and
WX08X10025).
When connecting yore" refl'igerator to a GE Reverse
()smosis _'_ater S}_stem, the only approved installation
is with a GE RV/Zit. For other revelse osmosis water
systems, follow the manufilcturer's recmmnendations.
If the water sui)i)ly to the iefl'igerator is ti'om a Reverse
()smosis _'LJter Filtration System AND the reii'igerator
also has a water filtei, use the refl'igerator's filter bypass
plug. Using the refl'igerator's water filtration cartridge
ill col_junction with the RO filter can result in hollow
ice cubes and slower water flow fl'om the water
dispenser.
This water lisle installation is not warranted by the
refl'igerator or icemaker mansffhcturer. Follow these
instructions carefully to minimize the risk of expensive
water damage.
_'Laer lmmmer (water banging in the pipes) ill house
plmnbing can cause damage to refl'igerator parts and
lead to water leakage or flooding. (;all a qualified
plmnber to correct water lmmmer beflwe installing
the water supply lisle to the refi'igerator.
To prevent burns and product damage, do slot hook
up the water line to the hot water lisle.
If you use votlr refl'igerator befl/re connecting the
water line, make sure the icemaker power switch is in
the 0(off) position.
Do not install tile icemaker tubing in areas where
temperatures fhll below fl'eezing.
When using ally electrical device (such as a power
drill) dm'ing installation, be sure the device is double
insulated or grounded in a manner to prevent the
hazard of electric shock, or is battes T powered.
All installations must be in accordance with local
phm/bing code requirements.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

kit, l/4" outer dialneter to connect the reli'igerator
to the water supply, If using copper, be sure both ends
of the tubing are cut square.
To detei_nline how much tubing you need: nleasure
the distance ti'oln the water wflve on the back of the
reli'igerator to the water supply pipe. Then add 8'
(2.4 I/l). Be sure there is sufficient extra tubing (about
8' [2.4 Ill] coiled into 3 turns of about 10" [25 cm]
diameter) to allow the reli'igerator to move o/lt ti'oill
the wall atier installation.

Be sure that the kit vou select allows at least 8' (2.4 I/l)
as described above.
NOTE: The only GE approved plastic tubing is that
supplied in GE SmartCmmect'" Refrigerator Tubing
kits. Do not use any other plastic water supply line
because the line is under pressure at all times. Certain
types of plastic will crack or rupture with age mid cause
water damage to your home.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED (CONT.)

•A cold water supply. The water pressure must be
between 20 and 190 p.s.i. (1.4-8.2 bar) on models
without a water filter and between 40 and 190 p.s.i.
(2.8-8.2 bar) on models with a water filter.
•Power drill.
• 1/2" or adjustable wrench.
• Straight mad Phillips blade screwdriver.
• Two 1/4" outer diameter compression nuts and
2 ferrules (sleeves)--to connect the COl)per tubing
to the shutoff valve and the refrigerator
water walve.
OR
•If wm are using a GE SmartConnect _'_Refl'igerator
Tubing kit, the necessa_ y fittings are preassembled to
the robing.
• If wmr existing COl)per water line has a flared fitting
at the end, you will need an adapter (available at
plumbing supply stores) to connect the water line to
the refl'igerator OR you can cut off the flared fitting
with a tube cutter and then use a compression fitting.
Do not cut formed end from GE SnlartConnect'"
Refl'igerator tubing.
• Shutoff valve to connect to the cold water line.
The shutoff wflve should have a water inlet with a
minimum inside diameter of 5/32" at the point of
connection to the COLD WATER LINE. Saddle-type
shutoffvalves are included in many water supply kits.
Betore imrchasing, make sure a saddle-type valve
complies with vom" local plumbing codes.
Install the shutoff valve on the nearest frequently used
drinking water line.
[] SHUT OFF THE MAiN WATER
SUPPLY
Turn on the nearest taucet long enouoh_ to clear
the line of water.
[] CHOOSE THE VALVE LOCATION
Choose a location fl_r the valve that is easily
accessible. It is best to connect into the side of a
vertical water pipe. When it is necessary to connect
into a horizontal water pipe, make the connection
to the top or side, rather than at the bottom,
to awfid drawing off anv sediment from the
water pipe.
[] DRILL THE HOLE FOR THE VALVE
Drill a 1/4" hole in the water pipe (even if using a
sell:piercing valve) using a shaq) bit. Remove any
burI_ resulting fl'oin drilling the hole in the pipe.
Take care not to allow water to drain into the drill,
Faihu'e to drill a 1/4" hole may result in reduced
ice production or smaller cubes.

Insert tile end of tile tubing into tile refi'igerator
connection as far as possible. While holding tile
robing, tighten tile fitting.
For plastic tubing fl'om a GE Slnart(_onnect
Refl'igerator Tubing kit, insert the molded end of
the tubing into the refl'igerator connection and
tighten the Colnpression nut until it is hand tight,
then tighten one additional turn with a wrench.
Overtightening inav cause leaks.
Fasten the tubing into the clalnp provided as
shown to kee I) it ill position. You InaV need to pry
open the clamp.

[] PLUG IN THE REFRIGERATOR
__rranoe the coil of tubing so that it does not xibrate
against the back of the refrigerator or against the
wall. Push the refrigerator back to the wall.
START THE ICEMAKER
Set the icemaker power switch to the I (on)position.
The icemaker will not begin to operate until it
reaches its operating temperature of 15°F (-9°C)
or below. It will then begin operation automaticallv
if the icemaker power switch is in the I (oil)position.
NOTE: In lower water pressure conditions, the
water xalxe may turn on up to 3 times to delixer
enotwh water to the icemake_:
