The power cord of this appliance is equipped with
a 3-prong (grounding) plug which mates with
a standard 3-prong (gromMing) wall outlet to
minimize the possibili F of electric shock haa_rd
from this appliance.
Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by a
qualified electfidan to make sure the outlet is
i)roperly grotmded.
If the outlet is a standard 9-prong outlet, it is
yore" personal responsibili_' and obligation to
have it replaced with a i)roperly grotmded
3-prong wall outlet.
The refl{gerator should alwa D be plugged into its
own individual electrical outlet which has a w)ltage

The larger slot in the adapter must be aligned with
the larger slot in the wall outlet to provide proper
polarity in the com_ecfion of the power cord.
When (lisc(mnecting the power cord fl'om the
a(lapte_; alwa_:s hold the adal)ter in place with one
hand while pulling the power cord l)lug with the
other hand. If this is not done, the adapter grotmd
temfinal is very likely to break with repeated use.
If the adapter grotmd temfinal breaLs, DO NOT
USEthe refrigerator until a proper ground has
been established.
Attaching the adapter ground terminal to a wall outlet
cover screw does not ground the appliance unless the
cover screw is metal, and not insulated, and the waft

Thetemperaturecontrols arepreset in the factory at 5for both the
refrigerator and freezercompartments.Allow 24 hours for the temperature to
stabilize to thepreset recommendedsettings.
Severaladjustmentsmay be required.Adjust thecontrols one increment at a
time, and allow 24 hoursafter each adjustment for the refrigerator to reach
thesetting you haveselected.
Setting either orboth controls to 0stopscooling in both the freezerand
refrigerator compartments,but does not shutoff electrical power to the
refrigerator.
Controlsettings will vary based on personal preferences, usage and
operating conditions and may require more than one adjustment.
NOTE: Therefrigerator is shippedwith protective film covering the
temperaturecontrols. If this film was not removedduring installation,
remove it now.
About TurboCool"H(on some models).
How it Works
TurboCool rapidly cools the refligerator
coml)artn_ent in order to more quickly
cool fi)ods. Use TurboCool when adding a
large amotmt ol food to the refligerator
(-Oil/pai'tillent, l)t/ttin°b awav, fOo(ls after thev
have been sitting out at room temperatm'e
or when putting awa) wam_ lefioxe_s. It can
also be used if the refiigerator has been
without power for an extended period.
Once actix _te(l, the compressor will turn on
immediately and the rims will cycle on and
off at high speed as needed fi)r eight hom_.
The compressor will continue to rtm tmtil
the refl_igerator compartment cools to
appr xnnately. 4 1_ (1 C), then it will cycle
on and off to maintain this setting. _Mter 8
horns, or if' TurboCool is pressed again, the
refrigerator compartment will return to
the original settin ,
How to Use
Press TurboCool.The TurboCool
indicator light Mll come on; however;
the refrigerator temperature display
will still show the current setting.
_Mter TurboCoolis complete, the TurboCool
indicator light will go out.
NOTES: The refligerator temperatm'e
cannot be changed dining
TurboCool.
The fl'eezer temperature is not
affected dining TurboCooL

The water filter cartridge is located in the
back upper fight corner of the refrigerator

When to Replace the Filter
There is a replacenmnt indicator light fin"
the water filter cartfidoe,_ on the dispense_;
This light will mrn orange to tell )ou that
)ou need to replace the filter soon.
The filter cartridge should be replaced
when the replacement indicator light turns
red or if the flow of water to the dispenser
or icei/laker decreases,

Installing the Filter Cartridge
If you are replacing the cartridge,
fiI_t remove the oM one by slowly
tm'ning it to the left. DO not pull down
on the cartridge. A small amotmt of
water inay drip down.
Fill the replacement cartridge with
water fl'om the tap to allow fin" better
flow fl'om the dispenser immediatelv
after installation.
OI,ining up the arrow on the cartridge

top of the new cartridge up inside
the holder: Oo not push it up into

Slowly mrn it to the right tmtil the filter
cartridge stops. DO NOT OVER77GHTEN.
,&syou turn the cartridge, it will

Cartridge will rotate about 1/4 turn.
Rtm water fl'om the dispenser for
3 minutes (about one and a half
galhms) to clear the svstein and
prevent sputtering.
Press and hold the RESETWATERFILTER
pad on the dispenser for 3 seconds.
NOTE: A newEqnstalled water filter
cartridge may cause water to spurt from
the dispense_:

The slide-out spillproof shelf allows you
to reach items stored behind othe_. The
special edges are designed to hel I) prevent

Slide the shell out until it reaches the stop,
then press down on the tab and slide the
shelf straight out.
Toreplace orrelocate:
I,ine the shelf up Mth the suI)I)orts and
slide it into place. The shelf can be
reposifioned when the door is at 90 ° or
more. To reposition the shelf, slide the shelf
past the stops and angle downward. Slide
shelf down to the desired position, line up
with the supports and slide into place.

than the ones you are used to. The
special door opening/closing teatuI'e
makes sine the dom_ close all the way
and are secm'elv sealed.
When opening and closing tile door you
will notice a stop position. If tile door is
opened past this stop point, tile door will
remain open to allow you to load and
mfload fi_od more easily. _A]/en tile door
is only partially open, it will automatically
close,

Crispe_ can easily be removed by pulling
the drawer straight out and lifting the
drawer up and over the Mop location.
If the door prevents you fl'om tnking out

bins. If this does not offer enough
clearance, the refl_igerator will need to
be rolled flwward tmtil the door opens
enough to slide the drawe_s out. In some
cases, when you roll the refrigerator ()tit,
um will need to move the refl_igerator
to the left or right as you roll it out.

If the refl_igerator is operated befin'e the
water cmmecfion is made to the icemaket,
set the power switch in the 0 (off) position.
When the refl-igerator has been connected
to the water sui)i)ly, set the power switch to
the I(On) position.
The icemaker will fill with water when it
cools to ]5°F (-10 °C). A newly install ed
refi-igerator may take 12 to 94 hours to begin
making ice cubes.
You will hear a buzzing sound each dine
the icemaker fills with water:
Throw awm the first tew batches of ice to
allow the water line to cleat:
Be sm'e nothing interteres with the sweep
of the feeler amt.
When the bin fills to the level of the teeler
am_, the icemaker will stop producing

Accessing Ice and Reaching the
Power Switch on Dispenser Models
There are two types of ice storage bins on
dispenser models. One has a shelf above
the bin, the other does not.
Special note about dispenser models
without a shelf above the ice bin:
These models have a tilt-out ice bin.
The bin can be tilted out as shown in
the illustrations, and it will hold itself

bucket stage, the following steps are
recommended:

The spill shelf is not selfklraining, To
reduce water spotting, the shelf and its LIGHT
grille should be cleaned regularly:
If no water is dispensed when the refrigerator is
first instafled, there may be air in the water fine
system. Press the dispenser arm for at least two
minutes to remove trapped air from the water
fine and to fi// the water system. To flush out
impurities in the water line, throw away the first
six glassfuls of water
CAUTION: Never put fingersor any other
objectsinto the ice crusher dischargeopening.

Important Facts About Your Dispenser
Do not add ice fl'om trays or bags to
tile storage drawei: It may not crush or
dispense well.
Avoid oveitilling glass with ice and use (ff
narrow glasses. Backed-up ice oral jam tile
chute or cause tile door in tile chute to
ti'eeze shut. If ice is blocking the chute,
poke it through with a wooden spoon.
Beverages and foods should not be
quick-chilled in the ice storage drawer
Cans, bottles or food packages in tile
storage drawer may cause the icemaker
or a/iger to jalll.
To kee I) dispensed ice fl'on/missing
the glass, put the glass close to, but not
touching, the dispenser opening.
Some crushed ice may be dispensed even
though you selected CUBED ICE. This
happens occasionally when a few cubes
accidentnlly get directed to the crushei;
_Mter crushed ice is dispensed, s()me
water may dii I) ti'om tile chute.
Sometimes a small mound of snow will
fimn on tile door in tile ice chute. This
condition is nomml and usually occurs
when you have dispensed crushed ice
repeatedly. The snow will eventually

Removing and Replacing the Ice
Storage Bin on Dispenser Models
Thereare two types of ice storage bins on
dispenser models. One has a shelf above
the bin, the other does not.
Always set the icemaker power switch to the
0 (Off)position befi)re rein eying tile ice bin.
When replacing either type ofice bin:
Mwavs be sure to press it firefly into place.
If it does not go all tile way back, remove it
and rotate tile drive mechanism l/4 turn.
Then push the bin back again.
Models with a shelf
above the ice bin
Toremove:
Pullthebfl7straightout,thenriftpast
thestopposition.
Careand cleaning ofthe refrigerator.
Dispenser drip area.
Cleaning the Outside
The dispenser drip area (on some models),
beneath tile grille, shotdd be wiped (hT.Water
left in this area may leave deposits. Remove
the deposits by adding mMiluted vinegar to
the well. Soak tmtil the deposits disappear
oI" becoi/le loose enotlgh to i'inse a_vav.
The dispenser cradle (on some models).
Betore cleaning, lock the dispenser by
pressing and holding the LOCK CONTROL
pad for 3 seconds. Clean with wam_
water and baking soda solution - about
a tablespoon (l 5 ml) of baking soda to
aquart (l liter) of wamr Rinse thoroughly
and wipe dry.
The doorhandles and trim. Clean with
a (loth dampened with soapy water:
Dry with a soft cloth.
Keep theoutsideclean.Wipe with a clean
cloth lightly dampened Mth kitchen
aI)pliance wax or mild liquid dish detergent.
Dry and polish with a clean, soft cloth.

Cleaning the Inside

baking soda in tile fl'esh food and fl'eezer

Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning. If this
is not practical, wring excess moisture out
of sponge or cloth when cleaning arotmd
switches, lights or c(mtrols.
Use warn/water and baking soda solution -
about a tablespoon (l 5 ml) _ff baking soda
to a quart (l limr) of water: This both
cleans and neutralizes odms. Rinse and
wipe dry.

it to position by pushing it straight in.
Moving the refrigerator in a side direction
may result in damage to tile floor covering
or reflJgeratoi:
When pushing the refngerator back, make sure
you don't rofl over the power cord or icemaker
supply hne (onsome models).
Preparing for Vacation
For long \;ications or absences, i'elllOVe
food and unplug tile reli_igeratoi: Clean
the interior with a baking soda solution
of one tablespoon (l 5 ml) (ff baking soda
to one quart (1 liter) of water: I,eave the
dooi_ oi)en.
Set the icemaker power switch to tile
0 (Off)position and shut off tile water
sui)ply to the reflJgerator,
If tile temperature can drop below
fl'eezing, have a qualified servicer drain
tile water supply systeln (on some Inodels)
to prevent serious property damage due
to flooding.
Preparing to Move
Secure all loose items such as shelves and
(h'awe_ by taping them secm'ely in place
to prevent damage.
\_]/en using a hand truck to move tile
reti_igerato_; do not rest tile fl'ont or back
of tile refi_igerator against the hand truck.
This could damage the refl_igeratm; Handle
only fl'om the sides ot the reflJgeratm;
Be sure the refrigerator stays in an upright
position during moving.

Unplug the refligerator.
The bulbs are located at the top of the
compartment, inside the light shield.
Renlove the screw at the fl'ont ot the
light shield.
O To remove the light shield, press in on
the tabs on the sides ot the shield and
slide fin'ward and out.
_Mter replacing the bulb with an
appliance bulb of the same or lower
wattage, replace the light shield and
screw, X,_]_en replacing the light shield,
make sure that the tabs at the back of
the shield fit into the slots at the back
of the light shield housing,
Plug the refrigerator back in.
Refrigerator Compartment--Lower Light

Unplug the refligeratm:

appliance bulb of the same or lower
wattage, replace the shield,
Plug the refl'igerator back in.
Freezer Compartment
Unplug the refrigerator.
Remove the shelf just above the light
shield. (The shell will be easier to
relnove if it is emptied filst.) Relnove
the screw at the top of the light shield.
To remove the light shield, press in on
the sides, and lift up and out.
Replace the bulb with an appliance
bulb of the same or lower wattage,
and reinstall the light shield. When
reinstalling the light shield, make
sure the top tabs snap securely
into place. Replace the screw.
Reinstall the shelf and plug the
refl'igerator back in.
Dispenser
Unplug the refl_igerator.
The bulb is located on the dispenser
trader the control panel.
Remove the light bulb by tm'ning
it counterclockwise.
Replace the bulb with a bulb of the
same size and wattage.
Plug the refl'igerator back in.

If the refrigerator has already been installed,

PREPARATION
WATER SUPPLY TO THE ICEMAKER
If the refrigerator has an icemaker, it will have
to be connected to a cold water line. AGE
water supply kit (containing tubing, shutoff
valve, fittings and instructions) is available at
extra cost from your dealer, by visiting our
Website at www.GEAppliances.com (in
Canada at www.geappliances.ca) or from
Parts and Accessories, 800.626,2002 (in
Canada 1.888.261.3055).

MOVING THE REFRIGERATOR
[] LOADING THE RERIGERATOR
ONTO A HAND TRUCK
Leave all tape and door pads on doors
until the refrigerator is in its final location.
To move the refrigerator, use a padded
hand truck. Center the refrigerator on the
hand truck and secure the strap around
the refrigerator. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN
THE STRAP. i
[] REMOVE THE BASE GRILLE
Remove the grille by removing the two
Phillips head screws.
If the refrigerator must go through
any entrance that is less than 38"
wide, the doors must be removed.
Proceed to Step 3.
DO NOT remove the handles.
If all entrances are more than
38" wide, skip to Installing
the Refrigerator.
[] DISCONNECT THE WATER
COUPLING (on some models)
If the refrigerator has a water dispenser,
there is a water line from the cabinet into
the bottom hinge on the freezer door that
must be disconnected.
To disconnect, push in on the white collar
of the coupling and pull out the tubing.

If the refrigerator has a water dispenser,
there is a power line (harness) from the
cabinet into the bottom hinge on the
freezer door that must be disconnected.
To disconnect pull apart at the coupling.
DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL
CONNECTORS (on some models)
If the refrigerator has a refreshment
center, there are electrical connectors
(harnesses) from the cabinet into the
bottom hinge on the refrigerator door
that must be disconnected.
To disconnect, pull apart each connector.

To replace the doors, simply reverse
steps 3 through 8,
However, please note the following:
•When lowering the doors onto the
bottom hinges, make sure the second
person carefully guides the tube and
harnesses through the holes in the
hinges.
• When connecting the water line, make
sure you insert the tubing all the way
to the mark.
