Energy Saving Ideas • The freezer should be installed in coolest area of the room, away from heat

Read all instructions before using this freezer.
For Your Safety
Donotstoreorusegasolineor otherflammablevapors andliquidsin thevicinityof
this or any other appliance. Read product labels for flammability and other
warnings.
Child Safety
•Destroy carton, plastic bags, and any exterior wrapping material immediately
after the freezer is unpacked. Children should never use these items for play.
Cartons covered with rugs, bedspreads, plastic sheets or stretch wrap may
become airtight chambers and can quickly cause suffocation.
•A child might suffocate if he crawls into a freezer to hide or play. Remove
the door of a freezer when not in use, even if you plan to discard the
freezer. Many communities have laws requiring you to take this safety
precaution.
ElectricalInformation
These guidelines must be followed to ensure that safety mechanisms in the
design of this freezer will operate properly.
• Refer to the serial plate for correct electrical rating. The appliance power
cord isequipped with a three-prong grounding plugforprotectionagainstshock
hazards. Itmust be plugged directly intoitsownproperlygrounded three-prong
receptacle, protected with a 15 amp time delay fuse or circuit breaker. The
receptaclemustbeinstalledinaccordance withthelocalcodes and ordinances.
Consulta qualifiedelectrician. ReceptaclesprotectedbyGroundFault Circuit
Interrupters (GFCI) are NOT RECOMMENDED. DO NOT use an extension cord
or adapter plug.
• If voltage varies by 10 percent or more, freezer performance may be affected.
Operating the freezer with insufficient power can damage the motor. Such
damageisnotcoveredunderthe warranty. If you suspect your household voltage
is high or low, consult your power company for testing.
• Topreventthefreezerfrombeing turned off accidentally, donot plugunitinto
anoutlet controlledbya wall switchorpull cord.
• Do not pinch, knot, or bend power cord in any manner.
Other Precautions
• Neverunplugfreezerbypullingon power cord. Always grip plugfirmly,andpull
straightoutfromreceptacle.
• Turning control to OFF turns off the compressor, but does not disconnect power
tootherelectricalcomponents.

Installation
Unpacking and Leveling - Upright Freezers
Upright Freezer Door Removal
Before starting the freezer, follow these important first steps:
Installation
• Chooseaplace that is near a groundedelectricaloutlet.
• Forthemostefficientoperation,thefreezershould belocatedwheresurrounding
temperatures will not exceed 110°F (43°C). Temperatures of 32°F (0°C) and
belowwillNOT affect freezer operation. Additional compressorheatersarenot
recommended.
•
Allowspacearoundtheunitforgoodair circulation.
Leave a 3 inch (75 mm)space
onallsidesofthefreezerforadequatecirculation.
Leveling
Thefreezermusthaveallbottomcornersrestingfirmlyonasolidfloor.Thefloormust
be strong enough to support a fully loaded freezer. NOTE: Itis VERY IMPORTANT for
yourfreezertobelevelinordertofunctionproperly.Ifthefreezerisnotleveledduring
installation, the door may be misaligned and not close or seal properly, causing
cooling,frost,ormoistureproblems.
To Level Upright Unit:
Afterdiscardingcrating screws and wood base,useacarpenter'slevelto level the
freezerfromfront-to-back.Adjusttheplasticlevelingfeetinfront,1/2bubblehigher,
sothatthedoor closes easily when left halfway open.
To Level Chest Unit:
If needed, add metal or wood shims between feet pads and floor.
Cleaning
• Washany removableparts,the freezerinterior,and exteriorwithmilddetergent
and warm water. Wipe dry. DO NOT USE HARSH CLEANERS ON THESE
SURFACES.
•Do not use razor blades or other sharp instruments, which can scratch the
appliancesurfacewhenremoving adhesive labels. Any glue left fromthetapecan
be removed with a mixture of warm water and mild detergent, or touch the
residue with the sticky side of tape already removed. DO NOT REMOVE THE
SERIAL PLATE.
Upright Freezer Door Removal
If door must be removed:
1. Liftup plastichingecoverand foldback.
2. Use a Phillips® screwdriver to loosen and retighten the screws on the top hinge
toinsure a secure assemblyand prevent hinge slippage.
3. Remove the top hinge from cabinet and lift door off the lower hinge pin.
4. After door is removed, remove the two screws from the bottom hinge.
5. Toreplacedoor,reverseaboveorder.
Door Adjustment
If door gasket does not seal, adjust screw on bottom edge of door:
• If door does not seal on top, see Figure A
below.
• If door does not seal on bottom, see
FigureB.

Setting the
Temperature Control Cool Down Period
•For safe food storage, allow 4 hours for freezer to cool down completely. The
freezerwillruncontinuouslyforthefirstseveralhours. Foodsthatarealready
frozenmay be placedinfreezer after thefirstfew hours ofoperation. Unfrozen
foodsshouldNOTbeloadedinto freezer until freezer has operated for 4 hours.
• Whenloadingfreezer,freeze only3poundsoffresh foodpercubicfootof freezer
space at one time. Distribute packages to be frozen evenly throughout the
freezer.Itisnotnecessarytoturncontrolknobtoacoldersettingwhilefreezing
food.
Temperature Control
Thetemperaturecontrolislocatedinside freezeron uprightmodels,andontheleft
outside wall on chest models. The temperature control should be factory pre-set
tonumber 4,whichwillprovidesatisfactoryfood storage temperatures. However,
thetemperaturecontrol is adjustable to provide a range of temperaturesforyour
personalsatisfaction. Ifacoldertemperatureisdesired,turntemperaturecontrol
knob to a higher number. Adjust by one numerical increment at a time, and allow
severalhoursfortemperaturesto stabilize between adjustments.
Freezer Optional
Features
NOTE: Your freezer may have some, or all of the features listed below.
Become familiar with these features, and their use and care.
Power On Light
ThePowerOnLightindicates that the freezer is properly connected to electrical
power. The light glows even when the temperature control is turned to OFF. If
thelightgoes out, refer to "Freezerdoesnotrun"inthe Avoid Service Checklist.
Temp Alarm (audible only or audible with warning light)
This feature is designed to provide a warning of possible malfunction. If the
temperatureofthefoodrisestoalevelunsafeforlong-termstorage,thebuzzerwill
sound. The red light will also glow on models so equipped. The Temp Alarm feature
operatesonhouseholdelectricity. Ifpowerfails,thealarmwillnotperform. AnON/
OFF switch allows you to deactivate the Temp Alarm when not wanted. The freezer
isshipped with TempAlarmin theOFFposition. Afterfreezer has runapproximately
4 hours, the red light, if equipped, will go off. Then you may activate the Temp
Alarm without the alarm sounding.
Toactivate the Temp Alarm, press the eraser end of a pencil, or a freezer key into
the hole marked ON, moving the rocker switch. To deactivate the Temp Alarm,
presstheOFFswitch.
Ifthealarmsounds,besurefreezerisproperlyleveled,andthedoorclosesfreely,
andsealsproperly. Ifyoususpectatechnicalmalfunction,callanauthorizedservicer
immediately.
Slide-Out Basket(upright models)
TheSlide-OutBasket,locatedatthebottom ofthefreezerprovidesseparatestorage
spaceforitemsthataredifficulttostoreonfreezershelves. Toremovebasket,pull
out,andliftup.
Juice Can Rack (upright models)
The Juice Can Rack on the freezer door is specially ridged to store juice cans and
preventthem fromrollingout oftheshelf.
Security Lock with Pop-Out Key
Thissecuritylockfastensthedoorsnugly,ensuringstoredfoodissecure. Tolockor
unlockthe freezer, pushthekeyintothe lock and turn.Thekeypops out of thelock
afterithasbeenturned.

Freezer Optional

Thelight comesonautomatically when thedooris opened.Toreplacethe lightbulb,
turnthe temperature controltoOFFand unplugtheelectricalcord. Replace theold
bulb with a bulb of the same wattage.
Adjustable Shelf(upright models)
This shelf can be moved to one of two positions. Lift the shelf up and out to move
tothedesiredposition.
Power Defrost
The Power Defrost feature will defrost freezer in a fraction of the time usually
required. To defrost, remove all food, and follow these steps.
1. Pullout Power Defrost Plunger. Leave door open whiledefrosting.(Closing
freezerdoorwillpush in plunger and power defrost will be turnedoff.)
2.Push Power DefrostPlungerin to restartfreezerafter defrostingiscompleted.
Defrost Drain
The defrost drain provides a method of draining the water during defrosting and
cleaning.See "Defrosting" in Care and Cleaning Section.
Slide-Aside Basket(chest models)
This basket helps organize odd-shaped items. To reach other packages in the
freezer,slidethebasketasideorliftout.
Divider/Drain Pan(chest models)
TheDivider/DrainPan doubles as a convenient storage area andservesasashallow
drainpan when defrosting. Toremove,liftpanstraight up out ofthesupports,and
outof the chest.
Fast Freezing Shelves (upright models)
Theseshelvescontaincooling coils to freeze foods quickly and allowcoldair to
constantlycirculatethroughoutthefreezer.Donotusesharpmetalobjectssuch as
icepicks orscraperstoclean theshelves.This coulddamagetheshelves andreduce
theircoolingability.Theseshelvesarenotadjustable.
Slide-AsideBasket
Care and Cleaning Someuprightfreezersarefrost-freeanddefrostautomatically,butshouldbecleaned
occasionally.Beforecleaningordefrosting,unplugthepowercordfromtheelectrical
outlet.
Between Defrostings
Toavoidfrequent defrosting, occasionallyuseaplasticscraper to remove frost.
Scrape with a pulling motion. Never use a metal instrument to remove frost.

Defrosting
It is important to defrost and clean freezer when 1/4 to 1/2 inch of frost has
accumulated. Frostmay tend to accumulatefaster on upper part of freezer due to
warm, moist air entering freezer when door is opened. Remove food and leave
door open when defrosting freezer.
•On upright models with a defrost drain (Figure 1), remove drain plug on the
insidefloorofthefreezerbypullingstraightout.Toaccessexternaldraintubeon
models with a base panel, first remove the two screws from the base panel.
Locatethedraintubeneartheleft center under the freezer. Place a shallow pan
under the drain tube. Defrost water will drain out. Check pan occasionally so
water does not overflow. A 1/2 inch garden hose adapter can be used to drain the
freezerdirectlyintoafloordrain.Ifyourmodelisnotequippedwithanadapter,one
canbe purchased at mosthardwarestores. Replace thedrainplugwhen defrosting
andcleaning are completed. Ifthedrain isleftopen,warm airmayenterfreezer.
•On chest models with a defrost drain, place a shallow pan or the Divider/Drain
Pan(some models) beneath thedrainoutlet(Figure 2). Aonehalfinch garden hose
adaptercanbeusedtodrainthefreezerdirectlyintoafloordrain(Figure3).Ifyour
model is not equipped with an adapter, one can be purchased at most hardware
stores.Pulloutthedrainpluginsidethefreezer,andpullofftheoutsidedefrost
drainplug(Figure4).Defrostwaterwilldrainout.Checkpanoccasionallysowater
does not overflow. Replace the drain plugs when defrosting is completed.
•On models without a defrost drain, place towels or newspapers on the freezer
bottom to catch the frost. The frost will loosen and fall. Remove towels and/or
newspapers.
• Ifthefrostissoft,removeitbyusingaplasticscraper.Ifthefrostisglazedandhard,
fill deep pans with hot water and place them on the freezer bottom. Close the
freezerdoor. Frost should soften inabout 15 minutes. Repeat thisprocedure if
necessary.
Cleaning the Inside
After defrosting, wash inside surfaces of the freezer with a solution of two
tablespoonsof baking soda in one quart(1.136 litres) warm water. Rinse anddry.
Wring excess water out of the sponge or cloth when cleaning in the area of the
controls,oranyelectricalparts.
Wash the removable parts and door basket with the baking soda solution mentioned
above, or mild detergent and warm water. Rinse and dry. Never use metallic
scouringpads,brushes,abrasivecleaners,oralkalinesolutionsonanysurface.Do
not wash removable parts in a dishwasher.
Cleaning the Outside
Wash the cabinet with warm water and mild liquid detergent. Rinse well and wipe
drywithacleansoftcloth.Replacepartsandfood.
Vacation and Moving Tips
ShortVacations: Leavethefreezer operating during vacations of lessthanthree
weeks.
Long Vacations: Ifthe freezerwillnotbe usedforseveral months,removeallfood
and unplug the power cord. Clean and dry the interior thoroughly. To prevent
odor and mold growth, leave the freezer door open slightly, blocking it open if
necessary.
Moving: Disconnect the power cord plug from the wall outlet. Remove foods, then
defrost,andcleanthefreezer. Securealllooseitemssuchasbasepanel,baskets,

vehicle,secure freezer in anuprightposition,andsecure to prevent movement.
Alsoprotectoutsideoffreezerwithablanket,orsimilaritem.
Ifa powerfailureoccurs,frozenfoods will stayfrozenforat least 24hoursif the
freezeriskeptclosed.Ifthe powerfailure continues,packsevenoreightpoundsof
dryice into the freezer every 24 hours. Look in the Yellow Pages under "DryIce,"
"Dairies," or "Ice Cream Manufacturers" for local dry ice suppliers. Always wear
gloves and use caution when handling dry ice.
If the freezer has stopped operating, see "Freezer does not run" in the Avoid
ServiceChecklistSectionofthismanual.Ifyoucannot solve the problem, call an
authorizedservicerimmediately.
Ifthefreezerremainsofffor severalhours, followthedirectionsabovefortheuse
ofdryiceduring apower failure.Ifnecessary,takethefoodto alocallockerplant
untilthefreezer is ready to operate. Look in theYellow Pages under "Frozen Food
LockerPlants."

Avoid Service Checklist Beforecallingfor service,review thislist. Itmay saveyou bothtime and
expense.This list includes common occurrencesthat are not theresult of
defectiveworkmanshipor materialsinthis appliance.
This freezer must not be plugged into a circuit that has ground fault interrupt. If you are
unsure about the outlet, have it checked by a certified technician.
Temperature control is in the OFF position. See Setting the Temperature Control Section.
Freezer may not be plugged in, or plug may be loose. Be sure plug is tightly pushed into
electricaloutlet.
Housefusehasblown, or circuit breakerhastripped.Check/resetcircuit breaker, or replace
fuse with 15 amp. time delay fuse.
Power outage. Check house lights. Call local electric company.
Room or outside weather is hot. It is normal for the freezer to work harder under these
conditions.
Freezerhad recentlybeen disconnected for a periodof time.Freezer requires4 hours to cool
down completely.
Large amounts of warm or hot food have been stored recently. Warm food will cause the
freezer to run more until the desired temperature is reached.
Dooris kept open too longor too frequently. Warm air enters thefreezer every time the door
is opened. Open the door less often.

Temperaturecontrol isset too cold. Turn thecontrol knobto awarmer setting. Allow several
hoursfor the temperature to stabilize.
Freezergasketis dirty, worn,cracked, or poorlyfitted.Clean orchangegasket. Leaks inthe
door seal will cause freezer to run longer in order to maintain desired temperature.
Temperature control is set too cold. Turn the control to a warmer setting. Allow several
hoursfor the temperature to stabilize.
Temperature control is set too warm. Turn the control to a colder setting. Allow several
hoursfor the temperature to stabilize.
Door is kept open too long or is opened too frequently. Warm air enters the freezer every
time the door is opened. Open the door less often.
Door may be open slightly. See Occurrence section “Door Problems.”
Large amounts of warm or hot food might have been stored recently. Wait until the freezer
has had a chance to reach its selected temperature.
Freezerhas recentlybeen disconnected for a periodof time.Freezer requires4 hours to cool
down completely.
The exterior freezer walls can be as much as 30°F warmer than room temperature. This is
normal while the compressor works to transfer heat from inside the freezer cabinet.
Modern freezers have increased storage capacity and more even temperatures. They
require a high efficiency compressor. When the surrounding noise level is low, you might
hear the compressor running while it cools the interior.
Freezer operates at higher pressures during the start of the ON cycle. This is normal. Sound
willleveloff ordisappearas freezer continuesto run.
Metal parts undergo expansion and contraction, as in hot water pipes. This is normal. Sound
willleveloff ordisappearas freezer continuesto run.

Pay all costs for repairing or replacing any parts of this
appliance which prove to be defective in materials or
workmanship.
Repair or replace any parts in the Sealed Refrigeration
System (compressor, condenser, evaporator, drier and
tubing) which prove to be defective in materials or
workmanship, and provide the labor to install such part.
Provide a replacement for any compressor which proves to
be defective in materials or workmanship.
All of the provisions of the full and limited warranties
above and the exclusions listed below apply.
If food loss results because of defects in materials or
workmanship during the time periods listed above, and
appliestothelimitations statedinthe normalresponsibilities
of the consumer listed below, Frigidaire will reimburse the
consumer for the actual food spoilage loss in excess of
$5.00 per occurrence, but not to exceed the maximum
payment in the schedule at right, provided the food losses:

1. Proper use of the appliance in accordance with instructions provided with the product.
2. Proper installation by an authorized servicer in accordance with instructions provided with the appliance and in accordance
withall local plumbing,electricaland/or gas codes.
3. Proper connection to a grounded power supply of sufficient voltage, replacement of blown fuses, repair of loose
connections or defects in house wiring.
4. Expenses for making the appliance accessible for servicing, such as removal of trim, cupboards, shelves, etc., which are not
a part of the appliance when it was shipped from the factory.
5. Damagesto finish after installation.
6. Replacement of light bulbs and/or fluorescent tubes (on models with these features).
This warranty does not cover the following:
1. CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES SUCH AS PROPERTY DAMAGE AND INCIDENTAL EXPENSES RESULTING
FROM ANY BREACH OF THIS WRITTEN OR ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY.
Note: Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so this limitation or
exclusion may not apply to you.
2. Service calls which do not involve malfunction or defects in workmanship or material, or for appliances not in ordinary
household use. The consumer shall pay for such service calls.
3. Damages caused by services performed by servicers other than Frigidaire or its authorized servicers; use of parts other than
genuine Frigidaire Home Products parts; obtained from persons other than such servicers; or external causes such as abuse,
misuse, inadequate power supply or acts of God.
4. Products with original serial numbers that have been removed or altered and cannot be readily determined.
Keep your bill of sale, delivery slip, or some other appropriate payment record. The date on the bill establishes the warranty
periodshould service be required. If service is performed, it is in your bestinterest to obtain and keep all receipts. This written
warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may also have other rights that vary from state to state. Service under this warranty

service and parts under this warranty must be performed by Frigidaire or an authorized Frigidaire servicer.
