Computermotherboards and expansion cards containvery delicate IntegratedCircuit (IC)chips.To
protectthemagainstdamagefromstaticelectricity,youshouldfollowsomeprecautionswheneveryou
workonyourcomputer.
1. Unplug your computer when working on the inside.
2. Use a grounded wrist strap before handling computer components. If you do not have
one, touch both of your hands to a safely grounded object or to a metal object, such as
the power supply case.
3. Hold components by the edges and try not touch the IC chips, leads or connectors, or
other components.
4. Place components on a grounded antistatic pad or on the bag that came with the
components whenever the components are separated from the system.
5. Ensure that the ATX power supply is switched off before you plug in or remove the ATX
power connector on the motherboard.
Ifthemotherboardhasmountingholes,buttheydon’tlineupwiththeholesonthebaseandthereare
noslotstoattachthespacers,donotbecomealarmedyoucanstillattachthespacerstothemounting
holes.Justcutthebottomportionofthespacers(thespacermaybealittlehardtocutoff,sobecareful
ofyourhands).Inthiswayyoucanstillattachthemotherboardtothebasewithoutworryingaboutshort
circuits.Sometimesyoumayneedtousetheplasticspringstoisolatethescrewfromthemotherboard
PCBsurface,becausethecircuitwiremaybenearbythehole.Becareful,don’tletthescrewcontact
anyprintedcircuitwriteorpartsonthePCBthatarenearthefixinghole,otherwiseitmaydamagethe
boardorcauseboardmalfunctioning.

Step 1: Installing Processor and CPU Cooling Fan
Beforeinstallingtheprocessorandcoolingfan,adheretothefollowingcautions:
1. Theprocessorwilloverheatwithoutthe heatsinkand/orfan,resultinginpermanent
irreparabledamage.
2. Neverforce theprocessor intothesocket.
3. Applythermalgreaseon theprocessorbeforeplacingcoolingfan.
4. Pleasemake sure theCPU type is supportedby the motherboard.
5. If youdo not match theCPU socket Pin 1and CPU cut edge well,it will cause improper
installation. Pleasechangetheinsertorientation.PleaseuseAMDapprovedcooling
fan.

Step1. Risetheleverbaronthesocket.
Step2. Aligningthepinsoftheprocessorwiththesocket, inserttheprocessorintothesocket.

Step4. Whentheprocessorinstallationiscompleted,applythermalgreasetotheprocessor(as
showninFigure5)priortoinstallingtheheatsink. Werecommendsusingahighthermal
conductivitygreaseforthethermalinterfacematerialratherthanaphasechangematerial.
Phasechangematerialsdevelopstrongadhesiveforcesbetweentheheatsinkand
processor.
Removing the heatsink under such conditions can cause the processor to be
removed from the socket without moving the socket lever to the unlocked
position and then damage the processor pins or socket contacts.
** Werecommendyoutoapplythethermaltapetoprovidebetterheatconductionbetweenyour
CPUandheatsink.(TheCPUcoolingfanmightsticktotheCPUduetothehardeningofthe
thermalpaste.Duringthisconditionifyoutrytoremovethecoolingfan,youmightpullthe
processoroutoftheCPUsocketalonewiththecoolingfan,andmightdamagetheprocessor.
Toavoidthisfromhappening,wesuggestyoutoeitherusethermaltapeinsteadofthermal
paste,or removethecoolingfanwithextremecaution.)

Beforeinstallingtheprocessorandheatsink,adheretothefollowingwarning:
When DIMM LED is ON, do not install/remove DIMM from socket.
PleasenotethattheDIMMmodulecanonlyfitinonedirectionduetotheonenotches. Wrong
orientationwillcauseimproperinstallation.Pleasechangetheinsertorientation.
Themotherboardhas4dualinlinememorymodule(DIMM)sockets.TheBIOSwillautomaticallydetects
memorytype andsize.Toinstall thememorymodule,justpushit verticallyintotheDIMMsocket.The
DIMMmodulecanonlyfit in one directiondue tothenotch.Memorysize can vary between sockets.

Installation Step:
1. TheDIMM slothasanotch,so the DIMM memorymodulecanonly fit in onedirection.
2. Insertthe DIMMmemorymodule vertically into theDIMMslot. Then pushitdown.
3. Closethe plastic clip at bothedgesoftheDIMMslotstolocktheDIMMmodule.
4. When installing the DIMM into the DIMM module, we recommend to populate one DIMM in
Channel A module and one in Channel B module for best performance.
Please note that each logical DIMM must be madeof two identical DIMMs having the same
device size on each and the same DIMM size.
5. DIMMsmust be populated in pairs, and the DIMMs in a pair must be identical.
6.Reversetheinstallationsteps when you wishto removetheDIMMmodule.

DDR Introduction
DDRmemoryisagreatevolutionarysolutionforthePCindustrythatbuildsontheexistingSDRAM
architecture,yetmaketheawesomeadvancesinsolvingthesystemperformancebottleneckby
doublingthememorybandwidth.Nowadays,withthehighestbandwidthof3.2GB/sofDDR400
memoryandcompletelineofDDR400/333/266/200memorysolutions,DDRmemoryisthebest
choiceforbuildinghighperformanceandlowlatencyDRAMsubsystemthataresuitableforservers,
workstations,andfullrangeofdesktopPCs.

Step 3: Install expansion cards
1. Readtherelatedexpansioncard’sinstructiondocumentbeforeinstalltheexpansioncardinto
thecomputer.
2. Removeyour server’s chassiscover,necessaryscrewsandslot bracket from the computer.
3. Presstheexpansioncardfirmlyintoexpansionslotinmotherboard.
4. Besurethemetalcontactsonthecardareindeedseatedintheslot.
5. Replacethescrewtosecuretheslotbracketoftheexpansioncard.
6. Replaceyourcomputer’schassiscover.
7. Poweron thecomputer,if necessary, setup BIOSutilityof expansion cardfromBIOS.
8. Installrelateddriverfromtheoperatingsystem.
