Withtheadditionofourproprietarytubecircuit,youwillbeamazedbythefullrichtoneyoucangetfromthis
oneofakindPreamp/DI.
Features:TheAiProTubeisaqualityDIandfull‐featuredpreampwithactivetonecontrols.Youwillbeable
todialinyourclearnaturalacousticsoundandrouteitthroughabalancedXLRoutputorunbalancedstandard
lineoutputtothePAsoundsystem.Wealsoaddeda“TubeCircuit”thatutilizesa12AX7AtubetogivetheAi
ProTubeawarmrichtoneforallofyouracousticinstruments.
GettingStarted:
PowerRequirements: 13VAC
Thisunitrequiresmorepowerthanastandard“pedal”becauseofthetubecircuitand“highheadroom”
preampcircuitry,soitmustbeconnectedtothepowersupplyinordertooperate.

InitialSetup
Beginwithalloftheknobcontrolsatthemidpoint(12:00o'clock)withthe“Ground(GND)LIFT”switch
“OFF”.The“PHASE”switchcanbeineitherthe“IN”or“OUT”position.
ThisinitialsetupwillprovideamediumgainsettingwithFLATfrequencyresponse.
Eachcontrolisfullyexplainedinthenextsection.
ControlPanel
PowerissuppliedtotheAiProTubeviathe13VACpowerjack,thetubewindowwillilluminatewhen
theunitisactivated.(Itwilltakeafewsecondsforthetubetowarmup)

1.GAIN:isthefirstcontrolyoushouldadjust.Itisnotavolumecontrol.The"GAIN"setsthelevelof
amplificationappliedtotheinputsignaltoboostittoauseablelevel.Thisadjustmentallowsforawide
rangeofpickupdevices.Youwillwanttousethehighest"GAIN"settingyoucanwithoutoverdrivingor
distortingthesignal.(SeeOverloadbelow)ThiswillgivetheProTubethemostsignaltoworkwithand
thebestsignaltonoiseratio.Ifyouareusingahighoutputactivepickupsystemyouwilllikelywantto
usealowersettingonthe"GAIN".Ifyouareusingapassivetypepickupsystemyouwilllikelyneeda
highersettingonthe"GAIN".
2.TREBLE:Adjuststheamountofcutorboostinthehighfrequency(5kHZ)range.
3.MID:Adjuststheamountofcutorboostinthemidfrequencyrange.
4.MIDSHIFT:AdjuststhefrequencyofcutorboostoftheMIDcontrol.(250HZ‐3.5KHZ)range.
5.BASS:Adjuststheamountofcutorboostinthelowfrequency(100HZ)range.
6.LEVEL:AdjuststheamountofsignalsenttotheOutputs(DIRECTOUT,LINEOUT).
7.Overload:–Thisindicatorwilllightupifthereisanoverload/overdrivesituation.TheProTubehasa
proprietarysensingcircuitthatmonitorsthesignallevelatvariouspointsinthesignalpathandwill
indicateifthereisanoverloadsituationinanyofthesecriticalpointsalongthesignalpath.

Ifanoverloadsituationoccurs,itissimpletoadjustyourinstrumentorProTubeunittoeliminatethis.
FirstturndowntheGAINcontrol,thiswillusuallyeliminatetheoverloadsituation.Iftheoverloadstill
exists,evenwithalowsettingontheGAINcontrol,turnyourInstrumentvolumedown.Itwillbevery
rarethatyourinstrumentwillhaveenoughoutputtooverloadtheinput,butitcanhappen.When
usingtheEffectsLoop,youmaybeabletooverloadthecircuitiftheeffectsyouareusinghaveahigh
outputsignal.Tobestwaytoremedythisisbydecreasingthelevelofyoureffectsoutput.
SpecialNote:Ifyouareusinganeffectthatsquaresoffthesignal,likeadistortionoroverdrivepedal,theProTubewill
sensethisandcangiveanoverloadreadingevenifthesignallevelisbelowtheoverloadthreshold.
8.MUTE:–ThisfootswitchisusedtomutetheoutputoftheProTube.NosignalwillpasstotheDIRECT
OUTorLINEOUTjackswhenthemuteison.TherewillbesignalavailableattheTUNEROUTjackwhen
themuteisactive.Thisisveryusefulonstagewhenyouwanttotuneyourinstrumentwithoutbeing
heardthroughthePA.TheMuteindicatorLEDwillilluminatewhenmuteisactive.
9.TUBE:–Thisfootswitchisusedtoturntheinternaltubecircuitonandoff.Theproprietarytubecircuit
oftheProTubegivesaslightboosttotheoutputsignalwhileaddingthemuchdesiredwarmthand
dynamicsthatonlyatubecanprovide.The“Blue”LEDnexttotheswitchwillilluminatewhenthetube
isactivated.

InputOutputPanel:
1.13VAC:–Thisisthepowersupplyinput.A13VACpowersupplymustbeusedfortheProTube.
2.LINEOUT:Plugastandardinstrumentcablefromastagemonitor,amp,ormixerintothis
unbalancedoutput.Usethe“LEVEL"controltosetallProTubeoutputlevelstobestmatchyour
soundsystemandgiveyoutheleastamountofnoise.
3.DIRECTOUT:PlugastandardXLRcablefromyourPAorrecordingconsoleintothislowimpedance
balancedoutput.Usethe“LEVEL"controltosetallProTubeoutputlevelstobestmatchyoursound
systemandgiveyoutheleastamountofnoise.
4.GNDLIFT:Ifyouhavemultiplegrounds,youmayhavehumorgroundloops.DisconnecttheDIRECT
OUTgroundbyswitching“ON”theGroundLifttoeliminatethisproblem.
5.PHASE:affectsthewaythesignalmixesliveandwhenrecording.Ifyouexperience“positive
acoustic”feedback,flippingthephaseswitchtothealternatesettingwillkillthefeedback.
6.SEND:ThesignalontheSENDjackispostinputgainandpreEQ.Thismeansthatyoucanusethe
SENDsignalasanauxiliaryunbalanceddirectoutput.Thissignalisnotaffectedbyanyofthepanel
controlswithexceptionofthe"INPUTGAIN"control.
7.RETURN:ApluginsertedintotheRETURNjackwillinterruptthesignalpath.Thesignalonthetipof
thepluginsertedintotheRETURNjackwillbethesignalthattheDIPLUSwillprocess.
SPECIALNOTE:TheSENDandRETURNjacksformarealworld"EFXLOOP".Inanefforttosaveroom,mostofour
competitionusesaTRSjack(tip,ring,sleeve)andYcabletypesystem.Weprovideyouwithtwo1/4"jacks,onefor
"SEND"andonefor"RETURN".SincetheEFXLOOPinterruptsthesignalpathitcanbeusedasaninsertpointfora
volumepedal,compressor,ortuner,ifthetunerisequippedwithabypassswitch.
8.TUNEROUT:TheTUNEROUTjackprovidesanunbalancedinstrumentlevelsignaltobeplugged
intoanoutboardtuner.TherewillbesignalavailableattheTUNEROUTjackwhenthemuteis
active.Thisisveryusefulonstagewhenyouwanttotuneyourinstrumentwithoutbeingheard
throughthePA.TheMuteindicatorLEDwillilluminatewhenmuteisactive.
9.INPUT:Pluginaninstrumentherewithastandard¼‐inchinstrumentcable.Ifyouhaveapassive
undersaddlepickup(nobatteryonboard),useasshortacableaspossibletominimizetheloading
affectofthecable.
