Dear Customer,
You have chosen a GNS product characterised by high-qua-
lity and reliability. All of our products are tested intensively
before leaving the factory. Please read the following infor a
tion carefully to ensure proble -free operation and opti al
functionality.
The GNS 5870 MFI is a GPS receiver with Bluetooth techno
logy and a highly sensitive 32-channel GPS chip. With the
GNS 5870 MFI for the first ti e a highly sensitive Bluetooth
Hybrid-GPS (HGPS) receiver is available, which supplies both
Apple iPod touch 2G, iPod touch 3G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS,
(starting with iPhone OS 3.0.1), iPad, and other handhelds
(PDAs, Notebooks) with accurate position infor ations.
The GNS 5870 MFI enables the utilisation of the following:
a) Positioning signals fro the worldwide freely available
GPS navigation syste .
b) Transfer of these infor ations over wireless Bluetooth
co unication.
Safety notices
· Never anipulate or adjust your GPS Navigation Syste
while driving.
· Safeguard the GNS 5870 MFI fro oisture; observe
the li its on operating and storage te peratures.
· This device contains a Li-Ion battery and should only be
operated at te peratures between 0° and 50° C. Do not
expose the GNS 5870 MFI to direct sunlight or heat.
· Do not open or odify. Failure to co ply will result in the
guarantee and warranty beco ing void. There are no
co ponents inside that can be serviced by the user.
· Only connect the GNS 5870 MFI to the connector types
described in these instructions.
· Be sure to respect the laws of the country you are in with
respect to operation of devices whilst driving.

· Do not operate the GNS 5870 MFI with a da aged cord
or if the unit has been dropped or da aged.
· Do not bend the cable forcibly or place a heavy object
on it. This will da age the cord and ay cause fire or
electrical shock.
· Ensure that your GNS 5870 MFI is fir ly fixed in your car
to avoid da age.

Operating buttons and LEDs
The GNS 5870 MFI has an on/off switch
with STT SartTouchTechnology:
To switch on your GNS 5870 MFI,
ove your finger fro top to botto
over the LEDs, and fro botto to
top to switch it off.
Charging
The GNS 5870 MFI is equipped with a Li-Ion rechargeable
battery. Operating ti es are in excess of 10 hours. For char
ging (charging ti e approx. 3.5 hours) connect the charging
cable as supplied to the cigarette-lighter charger device and
the GNS 5870 MFI. The red indicator light blinks to indicate
that the device is charging. You can also use the loading
cable to charge the GNS 5870 MFI at PC USB connectors.

Illuminated display
Installation and Bluetooth mode
Position the GNS 5870 MFI so that it has an unobstructed
view o the sky. Secure the receiver to avoid slipping.
Switch on the GNS 5870 MFI.
Activate the Bluetooth mode in your Apple device / PDA
/ PC and initiate a search or the GNS 5870 MFI with your
Apple device or other PDA / PC Bluetooth manager. This is
described in the manual or your device. When asked or
the PIN to establish the link, enter 0000.
Start your navigation so tware and select the appropriate
inter ace under the GPS settings i it is required.

Special feature for Apple devices: A ter the irst connection
build up with the Apple device, the connection will be auto
matically renewed by restarting the GNS 5870 MFI.
This autotomatic connection establishment will be interrupted
when you connect your GNS 5870 MFI with another device
intermediately.
Operation o er car ignition
For fixed and unfixed installation and operation in otor ve
hicles with 12-24V power supply.
The GNS 5870 MFI is equipped with an auto atic activator
switch for the use in vehicles. If your vehicle has a cigarette
lighter socket, which is connected to the ignition, and the
GNS 5870 MFI is connected via the included charging ad
apter there, it turns on auto atically when the ignition is
activated. After activation the device shows the sa e illu i
nated display as discribed in the anual under "Illu inated
Display.
Power management
1. Without external power supply (cable/car ignition off)
the GNS 5870 MFI will shut down auto atically after 15
inutes without Bluetooth connection to save battery ti e.
2. If GNS 5870 MFI is installed easily accessible (e.g. glove
box) it can be switched off by using the SartTouchTech
nology on/off switch as described under Power anage
ent in this anual.
3. To switch the GNS 5870 MFI on again, connect it with
the power cable again or use SartTouchTechnology
on/off switch for portable use.

Reset
If you should experience an unexpected alfunction - e.g.
no data is sent, the partner device does not recognize the
GNS 5870 MFI or the display shows a alfunction - please
carefully insert a paper clip or si ilar object into the opening
and press the reset key.

CE: The GNS 5870 MFI satis ies the R&TTE directives
(99/5/EG), the EMC directives (2004/108/EC) and the low
voltage directive (2006/95/EC) as issued by the EU commis

tions.
R&TTE Bluetooth EMC: This device also complies with EN
301489-1/-17; EN 300 440; EN 300 328 (Modul) and is listed
under Bluetooth Quali ied Products.
Although the GNS 5870 MFI con orms to the current strict
guidelines and norms it cannot be guaranteed that other de
vices will not be a ected by inter erence.

lässiges GNS-Produkt entschieden! Alle GNS-Produkte wer
den bei uns eine intensiven Funktionstest unterzogen. Bitte
lesen Sie die folgenden Infor ationen sorgfältig, u einen
proble losen Betrieb und eine opti ale Funktion zu erhalten.
Der GNS 5870 MFI ist ein GPS E pfänger it Bluetooth-
Technologie und hochsensitive 32-Kanal-GPS Chip. Mit
de GNS 5870 MFI steht erst als ein hoche pfindlicher
Bluetooth  Hybrid GPS (HGPS) E pfänger zur Verfügung,
der sowohl Apple´s iPod touch 2G, iPod touch 3G, iPhone 3G,
iPhone 3GS (ab iPhone OS 3.0.1), iPad als auch andere
Handhelds (PDAs, Notebooks) it genauen Positionsdaten
versorgt.
Der GNS 5870 MFI ermöglicht die Nutzung on:
a)Ortungssignalen des weltweit verfügbaren GPS Naviga-
tionssyste es.
b)Transfer dieser Positionsdaten über die drahtlose Bluetooth
Ko unikation.
Sicherheitshinweise
· Bedienen Sie Ihr GPS-Navigationssyste nie als während
der Fahrt.
· Schützen Sie den GNS 5870 MFI vor Feuchtigkeit und
halten Sie die Betriebs- und Aufbewahrungste peratur-
li its ein.
· Dieses Gerät enthält eine Li-Ion-Batterie und sollte nur
zwischen 0° C und 50° C betrieben werden. Setzen Sie
den GNS 5870 MFI nicht direkte Sonnenlicht oder Hitze
aus.
· Öffnen oder odifizieren Sie den GNS 5870 MFI nicht,
ansonsten verfällt die Garantie. I Innern sind keine Teile
vorhanden, die durch den Benutzer gewartet werden
können.

· Schließen Sie den GNS 5870 MFI nur an die in der An
leitung angegebenen Anschlüsse an.
· Vergewissern Sie sich, dass Sie die Gesetze des Landes
bezüglich der Benutzung von Geräten i Fahrzeug ein
halten, in de Sie sich gerade befinden.
· Benutzen Sie den GNS 5870 MFI nicht it beschädig-
te Kabel oder nachde es heruntergefallen ist oder
beschädigt wurde.
· Knicken Sie Kabel nicht und stellen Sie keine schweren
Gegenstände darauf. Dies kann das Kabel beschädigen
und zu Feuer oder Stro schlägen führen.
· Fixieren Sie den GNS 5870 MFI in Ihre Fahrzeug, da it
kein Schaden angerichtet werden kann.

Leuchtanzeigen
Ladefunktion
Der GNS 5870 MFI ist it eine Li-Ion-Akku ausgestattet.
Die Laufzeit beträgt hier it über 10 Stunden. Zu Aufladen,
Ladezeit ca 3,5 Stunden, verbinden Sie das itgelieferte
Ladekabel it de Zigarettenanzünder-Ladegerät und de
GNS 5870 MFI. Die rote Leuchtanzeige beginnt zu blinken,
u den Ladevorgang anzuzeigen. Sie können das Ladeka
bel auch verwenden u den GNS 5870 MFI über den USB
Anschluss eines PCs aufzuladen.

Inbetriebnahme Bluetoothbetrieb
Platzieren Sie Ihren GNS 5870 MFI so, dass er eine freie
Sicht zu Hi el hat. Sichern Sie den E pfänger gegen
Verrutschen. Schalten Sie den GNS 5870 MFI ein.
Schalten Sie in Ihre Apple Gerät / PDA / PC den Bluetooth-
Betrieb ein und lassen Sie den Bluetooth-Manager Ihres PDA
etc. nach GNS 5870 MFI suchen. Die Beschreibung hierfür
entneh en Sie bitte Ihre Gerätehandbuch. Geben Sie bei
der PIN Anfrage der Kopplung bitte 0000 ein.
Starten Sie Ihre Navigationssoftware und stellen Sie, wenn
nötig, unter GPS Einstellungen die entsprechende Schnitt
stelle ein.
Besonderheit bei Apple Geräten: Nach der ersten Instal
lation einer Verbindung it eine Apple Gerät wird diese
auto atisch wieder aufgebaut, wenn der GNS 5870 MFI ein
geschaltet wird.
Dieser auto atische Verbindungaufbau wird unterbrochen,
wenn zwischenzeitlich eine Bluetooth-Verbindung zwischen
Ihre GNS 5870 MFI und eine anderen Gerät aufgebaut
wurde.
Betrieb über Automobil Zündung
Für Fest- und Mobilinstallation in Motor ahrzeugen mit
12-24V Stromversorgung.
Der GNS 5870 MFI ist it einer Schaltauto atik für den Ein
satz i KfZ ausgestattet. Wenn Ihr Fahrzeug über eine Ziga-
rettenanzünder-Buchse verfügt, welche it der Zündung ge
schaltet wird, und der GNS 5870 MFI über den itgelieferten
Ladeadapter dort angeschlossen wurde, so schaltet er sich
auto atisch ein, sobald die Zündung des Fahrzeugs aktiviert
wird.
Nach der Aktivierung des GNS 5870 MFI zeigt das Gerät
dieselbe Leuchtanzeige wie i Handbuch unter Leuchtan
zeigen beschrieben

Strom Management
1. Ohne externe Stro versorgung (Kabel / Zündung aus)
schaltet sich das Gerät nach 15 Minuten ohne Bluetooth
Verbindung auto atisch ab u den Akku zu schonen.
2. Ist der GNS 5870 MFI frei zugänglich installiert (z.B.
Handschuhfach), kann er auch durch die SartTouch-
Technology Ein/Aus Schaltung, siehe auch unter Bedien
ele ente, ausgeschaltet werden.
3. U den GNS 5870 MFI wieder einzuschalten, stecken
Sie das Stro kabel wieder ein oder benutzen Sie die
S artTouch-Technology Ein/Aus Schaltung für den o
bilen Einsatz.
Reset
Sollte es zu einer unerwarteten Funktionsstörung ko en
 es werden keine Daten übertragen, der GNS 5870 MFI wird
vo Partnergerät nicht ehr erkannt oder die Leuchtan-
zeigen funktioniert nicht sinnvoll  bitte it einer Bürokla -
er oder eine ähnlichen Gegenstand vorsichtig durch die
Öffnung den Resettaster betätigen.

Die Kon ormitätserklärung kann beim Hersteller ange ordert
werden.
CE: Der GNS 5870 MFI entspricht der R&TTE-Richtlinie
