Type approvals
The GROHE Red boiling water storage heater with filter
system must be installed with the safety assembly provided.
The boiling water storage heater with filter system may only be
operated together with an original GROHE Red boiling water
fitting.
Application
The boiling water storage heater is designed to heat and store
drinking water in pressurised systems. The boiling water
storage heater is suitable for connection to a mains system
with a maximum water pressure of 0.8 MPa (8 bar).
It must not be connected to hot water.
The filter system measures the flow rate using a sensor and
from this calculates the remaining capacity of the filter
cartridge as a function of the set litre capacity. If the filter
cartridge litre capacity set on the display unit is exceeded, the
values are displayed as negative values.
The sensor also monitors the maximum service life of the filter
cartridge. If the maximum service life of 12 months is
exceeded, the remaining capacity of the filter cartridge flashes.
The filter head is fitted with a type-tested non-return valve.
The water filtrate is classified as Category 2 according
to EN 1717.
Safety notes
GROHE Red boiling water storage heater:
This device is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with physical, sensory or mental
impairments or a lack of experience or knowledge in
using devices of this type.
Children must be supervised to ensure that they do
not play with the device.
Prevent danger resulting from damaged power
supply cables. In the event of damage, the boiling
water storage heater must be replaced by the
manufacturer or its customer service department or
an equally qualified person.
Caution, risk of scalding. Escaping water is boiling
hot. Never touch the end of the spout in order to
swivel the spout as it becomes extremely hot.
• The boiling water storage heater must be connected to
a permanent power supply with earth wire.
• Installation is only possible in frost-free rooms.
• The boiling water storage heater is only suitable for
indoor use.
• The boiling water storage heater must be placed in an
upright position.
• The boiling water storage heater and plug must not be
directly or indirectly sprayed with water when cleaning.
• The boiling water storage heater must not be opened.
•Useonly genuine replacement parts and accessories.
The use of other parts will result in voiding of the warranty
and the CE identification, and could lead to injuries.
If the boiling water storage heater is to be drained (for any
reason), the safety assembly of the boiling water storage
heater must be removed. Invert the boiling water storage
heater and allow the water to run out.
However, we strongly advise against draining the boiling
water storage heater. There is a significant risk of
damaging the boiling water storage heater.
Filter system:
To avoid health risks, please note the following
information when using the filter system:
• For hygiene reasons, the filter system must be flushed
before using for the first time, see section Installation.
• For optimum filter cartridge performance, the set litre
capacity or the service life of 12 months must not be
exceeded.
• The filter head must be replaced after 5 years.
• The filter system may only be operated with cold water of
foodstuff grade.
• At the installation location, the filter system must be
protected from mechanical damage, heat and direct
sunlight.
• Following storage and transport at temperatures below 0 °C,
the filter cartridge must be stored in its opened original
packaging at ambient temperatures of 4 – 30 °C for at
least 24 hours before use.
• The filter system must never be opened when in operation.
• The filter material in the filter cartridge is specially treated
with silver. It is possible that a small amount of silver, which
is completely safe, may be released into the water. The
amount is in keeping with the recommendations of the World
Health Organisation (WHO) for drinking water.
• Notice for people suffering from kidney disease or on
dialysis:
Filtering may result in a slight increase in the potassium
content. If you are suffering from kidney disease or are
on a low-potassium diet, we recommend that you
consult your doctor.
• GROHE recommends not leaving the filter system out of
service for extended periods of time. If the filter system is
not used for more than 4 weeks, at least one storage heater
fill (4 litres) must be discharged and discarded.

Electrical installation
Electrical installation work must only be
performed by a qualified electrician. This work
must be carried out in accordance with the
regulations according to IEC 364-7-701-1984
(corresponding to VDE 0100 Part 701) as well as
all national and local regulations.
• Extension cables are not permitted between the electrical
socket and boiling water storage heater connection.
Installation
Refer to the dimensional drawing on fold-out page I.
Installing fitting, see fold-out page II, Figs. [1] and [2].
Insert fitting in sink hole. This will require leading through the
hoses one at a time.
Note: If there is no need to fit support plate (A), the clamping
length may be increased by 15mm, see Fig. [1].
Mount safety relief valve kit to the waste pipe, see Figs. [3]
to [7].
Mount wall holder to the wall, see Fig. [8] and [9].
Screw the expansion vessel (B) to the safety
assembly (C), see Fig. [10].
Fix expansion vessel (B) with safety assembly (C) to the
wall holder, see Fig. [11].
Install wall holder (D), see Fig. [12].
Use suitable screws and if applicable wall plugs (not included
in the scope of delivery).
Set water hardness at filter head (E), see Fig. [13].
Set water hardness at bypass setting (F) to local conditions,
see table column A on page 5. The relevant water supplier can
provide information on the water hardness. The value from
column B assigned to the bypass value from column A must
also be set on the display unit (G), see section Setting the
litre specification.
Insert filter head (E) in wall holder (D), see Fig. [13].
Insert filter cartridge (H), see Fig. [14].
Filter head (E) can be swivelled forwards by up to 90° in wall
holder (D) to install the cartridge.
Remove protective cover (H1) and insert filter cartridge (H)
into filter head (E) to the stop. Note the installation position of
the filter cartridge.
Turn locking handle (E1) until filter cartridge is felt to lock into
place.
Install pressure hose (I) at inlet [IN] of filter head (E),
see Fig. [15].
Install sensor (J) at outlet [OUT] of filter head (E),
see Fig. [15].
Important: Note direction of flow.
The sensor (J) must be installed horizontally.
Install display unit (G), see Fig. [15].
Use suitable screw and if applicable wall plug or secure using
double-sided adhesive tape (not included in the scope of
delivery).
This product conforms to the requirements of the
relevant EU guidelines.

Install storage heater taking into consideration the
available hose lengths, see Figs. [2] and [16].
Do not connect voltage supply yet.
Flush pipes thoroughly before and after installation
(observe EN 806).
Connect filter system, see Fig. [2] and [16].
1.Screw pressure hose (I) of filter system onto service valve,
see Fig. [16].
2.Screw hose (L) onto sensor (J).
Connect safety assembly (C), see Fig. [2] and [16].
1.Screw hose (L) to safety assembly (C) using the seals
provided, see Fig. [16].
2.Secure storage heater pressure hose (M) marked blue to
safety assembly (C) using the seals provided.
3.Connect copper pipe (not in the scope of delivery) to
the Ø15mmcompression connection of the drain
device (C1).
Connecting fitting, see Figs. [2] and [16].
- Connect the fitting pressure hose (N) marked 99 °C to
connection (N1) on the storage heater, see Fig. [11].
The spout must not be fitted with any downstream
resistances in the form of air bubblers (e.g. mousseurs) or
components reducing flow (e.g. restrictors) as these will
result in damage to the storage heater.
Open the service valve and check connections for
watertightness.
Flush filter system, see fold-out page III, Fig. [17].
1.Place collecting vessel under filter to collect water flowing
out of hose (O).
2.Press flush valve (E2) on filter head (E) and flush filter
system.
3.Continue flushing until water emerging from hose (O) is
clear and free of bubbles [min. 2 litres].
Filling storage heater with water, see Figs. [18] and [19].
1.Pull button (P1) on handle (P) of fitting outward and turn the
handle anti-clockwise, see Fig. [18].
2.Fill the storage heater until water comes out the spout of
the fitting.
3.Connect voltage supply via mains plug (R), see Fig. [19].
- Press and hold button (S) on storage heater for at
least 2 seconds to switch on the storage heater. The red
indicator lamp (S1) indicates that the storage heater is
switched on.
4.Open the GROHE Red boiling water fitting and flush with
one storage heater fill (4 litres).
Setting the litre specification
The bypass setting (F) set in the filter head (E), see fold-out
page II, Fig. [8], must be transferred to the display unit (G), see
fold-out page III, Fig. [20].
The value for the litre specification must be set as follows
depending on the water hardness as per table column B on
page 5:
The GROHE Red boiling water system is now fully
installed and ready for operation.
Operating the fitting
Note:
In order to prevent incorrect operation and for protection
against injury, we recommend affixing the sticker provided.
Pull button (P1) on handle (P) outward and turn and hold
handle (R) anti-clockwise to draw boiling water. Handle (R)
closes automatically, see Fig. [18].
Press and hold button (S) for at least 2 seconds to switch the
storage heater on or off, see Fig. [19].

The date of installation must be noted on the
maintenance sticker and affixed at a visible location
on the storage heater.

Maintenance
In the case of interventions in the mains supply
or maintenance work, the GROHE Red boiling
system must be bled as steam jets could
otherwise occur.
Close the service valve, switch off the storage heater and
disconnect the mains plug.
Wait until the storage heater and fitting have cooled down.
Open the lever to depressurise the storage heater.
Inspect and clean all parts, replace as necessary and lubricate
with special grease.
Filter (H), see fold-out page III, Fig. [21].
See technical product information enclosed with the filter
cartridge for information on replacing the filter.
The filter system is equipped with the 600 litre filter cartridge
(Prod. No.: 40 404) at the factory. The following filter sizes are
also available. 3,000 litre filter cartridge (Prod. No.: 40 412)
or 1,500 litre filter cartridge (Prod. No.: 40 430).
Note: The various filter cartridges can be ordered at
www.grohe.com.
Resetting the filter capacity, see fold-out page IV, Fig. [22].
After a new filter cartridge is inserted, the filter capacity must
be reset as follows:
Note: The litre specification programmed for the filter cartridge
is retained.
Battery (G3), see fold-out page IV, Fig. [23] and [24].
The battery must be replaced 7 years after commissioning the
fitting, at the latest.
1.Loosen screw (G1) and remove cover (G2), see Fig. [23].
2.Remove battery (T) and replace, see Fig. [24].
Important: Note correct polarity.
Note: No settings saved by the user will be lost when
changing the batteries or if the battery discharges.
Assemble in reverse order.
II. Mousseur
Remove and clean mousseur (13 999), see fold-out page I.
Assemble in reverse order.
Service
In order to improve customer service, we recommend
registering the product under www.grohe.com.
Note the Fault/Cause/Remedy table for information on
eliminating problems.
If the problem cannot be rectified, disconnect the mains plug to
shut off the voltage supply. Note down the serial number of the
storage heater on the rear of the device and get in touch with
GROHE Customer Service or contact the GROHE Service
Hotline under TechnicalSuppor[email protected].
The GROHE Red boiling water storage heater cannot be
repaired. If servicing is required, the complete storage heater
must be replaced.
In order to ensure correct operation, maintenance must be
performed on all hot-water-bearingpartsby GROHE Customer
Service every five years.
Following any service/maintenance work, the boiling water
storage heater must be re-filled, see section Installation.
