Cleaning Your Freezer
• Outside.Protect the paint finish. Thefinishontheoutside
ofthefreezerisahighquality,baked-on paint finish.
Withpropercare,itwillstaynew-lookingand rust-free
foryears.Applyacoatofappliancepolish wax when the
freezerisnewandthenatleasttwice a year. Appliance
polishwaxalsoworkswelltoremovetape residue from
freezersurfaces.
Keep the finish clean. Wipewith a clean cloth lightly
dampenedwithappliancepolishwaxormildliquid
dishwashingdetergent.Dryandpolishwithaclean, soft
cloth.Donotwipethefreezerwitha soiled dishwashing
clothorwettowel.Donotusescouring pads, powdered
cleaners,bleach,orcleanerscontainingbleach.
NOTICE:Care should be taken inmovingthefreezeraway
fromthewall.Alltypesoffloorcoverings can be damaged,
particularlycushionedcoveringsandthosewithembossed
surfaces.
• Inside.Clean the inside of yourfreezeratleastoncea
year.Werecommendthatthefreezerbeunplugged before
cleaning.Ifthisisnotpractical,wringexcess moisture out
ofspongeorclothwhencleaninginthevicinityofswitches,
lightsorcontrols.
Usewarmwaterandbakingsodasolution–abouta
tablespoonofbakingsodatoaquartof water. Rinse
thoroughlywithwaterandwipedry.Donot use cleaning
powdersorotherabrasivecleaners.DONOTwash
removablepartsinadishwasher.
Anopenboxofbakingsodainthe freezer will absorb stale
freezerodors.Changetheboxeverythreemonths.
CAUTION Dampobjectssticktocoldmetal
surfaces.DONOTtouchinteriormetalsurfaceswith wet
ordamphands.
In Case of Extended Power Failure
• Keepfreezerlidclosed.Yourfreezerwillkeep food frozen
for24hoursprovidedwarmairisnot admitted.
• Iffreezerisoutofoperationfor24 hours or more, add dry
ice.Leaveiceinlargepieces.Addmore ice as required.
CAUTION Handlingofdryicecancausefreezingof
thehands—glovesorotherprotectionisrecommended.
• Ifdryiceisnotavailable,movefood to a frozen food locker
temporarily—untilpowerisrestored.
Preparing to Move
TurnthetemperaturecontroltoOFF.Disconnectthe power
cordplugfromthewalloutlet.Removefoods, defrost (on
ManualDefrostmodels)andcleanthefreezer.
Securealllooseitemssuchasbasketsby taping them
securelyinplacetopreventdamage.
Besurefreezerstaysinuprightpositionduring actual
movingandduringtransportation.Thefreezermustbe
securedduringtransportationtopreventmovement.
Protectoutsideoffreezerwithblanket.
Preparing for Vacation
Tomaintainfreezerinoperationduringvacations,be sure
yourhousepowerisnotturnedoff.For sure protection of
freezercontents,youmaywanttoaska neighbor to check
thepowersupplyandfreezeroperationevery24 hours.
Forextendedvacationsorabsences,youmayprefer to
moveyourfrozenfoodstoastoragelocker temporarily. If
yourfreezeristobeleftempty,disconnect power cord plug
fromwalloutlet.Topreventformationofodors, place open
boxofbakingsodainfreezerandleave freezer lid open.
Save Money and Energy
• Thefreezershouldbelocatedinthe
coolestareaoftheroom,awayfrom
heat-producingappliancesorheating
ducts,andoutofdirectsunlight.
• Lethotfoodscooltoroom
temperaturebeforeplacinginthe
freezer.Overloadingthefreezer
forcesthecompressortorunlonger.
Foodsthatfreezetooslowlymaylosequality or spoil.
• Besuretowrapfoodsproperly,andwipe containers dry
beforeplacingtheminthefreezer.Thiscuts down on frost
buildupinsidethefreezer.
• Freezerbasketsshouldnotbelinedwithaluminum foil,
waxpaperorpapertowels.Linersinterferewith cold air
circulation,makingthefreezerlessefficient.
• Organizeandlabelfoodtoreducelidopenings and
extendedsearches.Removeasmanyitemsasneeded at
onetime,andclosethelidassoon as possible.
