You will need the manual for the safety warnings and precautions, assembly
instructions, operating and maintenance procedures. Keep your invoice with this
manual. Write the invoice number on the inside of the front cover. Keep the
manual and invoice in a safe and dry place for future reference.
Safety Warnings and Precautions
WARNING: When using this product, basic safety precautions should always
be followed to reduce the risk of personal injury and damage to equipment.
Read all instructions before using this tool!
1. Observe operating area conditions. Do not use this product in damp or wet
locations. Don’t expose to rain.
2. Store equipment properly. When not in use, this product must be stored in a
dry location.
3. Use the right product for the job. Do not attempt to use the 2 - Way Radio for
emergency communication purposes. This radio was designed for casual
communications at short distances. It will do the job better and more safely for
the purpose it was intended. Do not modify this radio, and do not use it for a
purpose for which it was not intended.
4. Maintain product with care. Follow instructions for changing batteries on page
4. Remove batteries when storing the radios.
5. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, use common sense. Do not operate the
radio when performing another task.
6. Check for damaged parts. Before using this product, any part that appears
damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly
and perform its intended function. Check for alignment and binding of moving
parts; any broken parts;and any other condition that may affect proper operation.
Any part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by a qualified
technician.
7. Battery Safety. Never use different types of batteries at the same time, or use
discharged batteries along with charged batteries. Do not attempt to recharge
batteries that are not designed to be rechargeable.
Note: Performance of this radio may vary depending on variations in battery power.
Product Specific Use and Safety Precautions
1. Do not hold the antenna while the radio is in use.Transmission quality is affected.
Best operation is attained during line-of-sight transmission.
2. The radio has been factory adjusted and tested. Do not attempt to open the radio
and made adjustments or replace parts (except batteries).
3. Avoid using the radio in dusty, humid, and high temperature environments.

Unpacking
When unpacking, check to make sure the two radios and instruction manual are
included. If any parts are missing or broken, please call Harbor Freight Tools at the
number on the cover of this manual.
4. To avoid electromagnetic interference and compatibility conflicts, turn off the
radio in any facility or location where radio use is prohibited (i.e., in aircraft and
hospitals).
Warning:The warnings,cautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction
manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It
must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are fac-
tors which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the opera-
tor.
Communicating
1. Turn Volume Control knob clockwise
until a click is heard. Adjust volume
to midpoint.
2. Press the (up or down arrow) Channel
Switch to select the desired Channel
Number. Both radios have to be set to
the same channel number to
communicate. The Channel Display
shows the current channel.
3. Press the Call Key once to transmit a call tone to advise the other radio operator
to listen for a message.
4. Press and hold the PTT (Push To Talk) key and speak within two inches of the
Microphone.The TX indicator lights.
5. After speaking, release the PTT key and listen for a reply from the other radio.
Adjust the volume to the desired level. When receiving, the RX indicator lights.
To speak and listen through an earphone set (not supplied), plug it’s cord into the
Earphone/Mic. Jack.
6. Leave the radio on during ongoing communications.

Maintenance
1. To clean the radio, wipe down with a clean and soft cloth, dampened with water.
Do not use corrosive chemical solvents. Damage
may occur to the internal components.
2. There are no internal replacement parts available.
3. Store the radios in a clean and dry location when
not in use. Remove batteries before storing.
4. Battery Replenishing
There are two methods available:
– Removal and Replacement
a. Push down on the Belt Clip button and turn the Belt
Clip to the side. Unlock and remove the battery cover.
b. Replace new or recharged batteries as shown to
the right.
– Recharging using the Charging Adapter (not included)
a. Only attempt to recharge NiCd or NiMh rechargeable batteries. Other batteries
may leak or damage the device if recharging is attempted.
b. Plug the Charging Adapter (not included, but available as a part) into the charging
jack and switch on the radio.
c. Charging time for most batteries is from 5-6 hours. The battery level indicator will
flash while charging and will stop flashing when the battery is fully charged.
d. Although a signal can still be received while charging, you can only communicate
with another radio after charging is complete. (The Call and PTT buttons do not
work while charging.)
Monitoring Function
1. Under weak transmission conditions, press and hold the MON key. All signals
on the same channel will be received.
2. Release the MON key to return to normal operation.
Key Lock Function
1. Press the CALL Key and Channel Switch (up or down arrow) and hold for three
seconds. This locks the channel selection. The Key Lock indicator lights. The
CALL, PTT, and MON keys function as normal.
2. Repeat Step 1 to unlock again. The Key Lock indicator goes off.
Low Battery Alert
1. If the LCD shows the flashing icon and the low battery alarm sounds every
3 minutes, this means that the battery is low.
2. Switch the unit off and replace/recharge the batteries immediately.
