CRIMP CONTACT INFORMATION
These IDC Termination Hand Too s are intended for use with the fo owing Kontro 1.27mm pitch
cab e connectors:
 Z50-020 .......................... M50-330XX42 (Archer M50 1.27mm Pitch IDC Connector, Fema e)
 Z50-030 .......................... M50-380XX42 ((Archer M50 1.27mm Pitch IDC Connector, Ma e)
Important Note:
Both too s wi crimp Ma e & Fema e connectors, but must be set to the appropriate crimp
settings as shown on sheet 3.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Z50-020 IDC Termination Hand Too is used to ensure the comp ete and secure assemb y of
IDC connectors. The too uses a ratchet mechanism and press p ate to assemb e the connector
onto the ribbon cab e. The too is a so supp ied with a desk c amp, for secure fastening during
operation.
The connector is fu y assemb ed once the too is free to open fu y to its origina position, i.e.
when the ratchet re eases. The ratchet re eases once the hand es have been compressed to the
fu y c osed position.

Fema e Crimp Setting 27
Ma e Crimp Setting 3
ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
1. Ensure that the crimp too is on the correct too setting, depending on which component you
are crimping. Fema e is setting 27 & Ma e is setting 3 (Mark 5). The settings are counted
from the number 1 mark going around the dia c ockwise.

2. Decide whether you wi c amp the too to the desk or use the too in hand. If c amping the
too to a desk, make sure the too is secure y fastened before use.

3. Se ect a suitab e ribbon cab e for the connector. Harwin recommends:
 Wire Type ....................... UL2678
 Wire Pitch ....................... 0.635mm
 Wire Thickness ............... 30AWG
4. Feed the cab e into the back of the connector, ensuring it is the correct width and cut to the
desired ength.
5. Make certain that the termination hand too is in the fu y open position, and that the jaws
are free from dirt and debris.
6. Feed the cab e through the s ot and secure y p ace the connector within the ocating feature
(Fema e) or f ush against the stop washer situated to the right of the too (Ma e). See figures
E, F and G.

7. Once the connector is in the correct position and secure, s ow y compress the hand e unti
the connector is fu y shut and the ratchet within the too has re eased.
8. If assemb ing a second connector to the cab e, it is not recommended to feed the wire
through the s ot. Instead, assemb e the cab e into the connector from above. This way, you
wi be ab e to terminate the connector, and sti be ab e to remove the finished assemb y
from the too . P ease see figures H & J be ow as examp es

TOOL MAINTENANCE
1. Keep the too c ean and free from dirt and foreign matter. Ensure that a pins and c ips are
in p ace before use, and that signs of wear are not visib e. If the pivots are worn, the too
must be rep aced, or integrity of assemb y wi be compromised.
2. Oi at a pivots and bearings using ight cyc e oi .
3. At regu ar interva s, check the assemb y too jaws for wear or damage, and inspect samp e
connector assemb ies for form and function.
