1.0 Purpose and target group
This manual primarily describes the design, function, transport, operation and maintenance of the DancerPlus,
and its use as an evaporator in a system with a vacuum pump and cold trap in general. It is intended to be used
by appropriately instructed and trained personnel of the owner, who are commissioned with the operation and/or
maintenance of the respective device. If you have been commissioned with work on the device, please read this
manual thoroughly before starting the work. Familiarise yourself with the pertinent safety regulations. Only carry
out work that is described in this manual. If you do not understand something or are lacking information, please
ask your supervisor or contact the manufacturer's plant or your national representative. Do not act independently.
1.1 Storage and forwarding
These operating instructions are part of the device and must always be stored as to allow persons working with
the device to have access to them. The owner is responsible for ensuring that persons working with the device
are aware of where these operating instructions can be found. We recommend always storing them in a safe
place close to the device. Make sure that the manual will not be damaged by heat or humidity. If this device is
sold on, or transported and reinstalled in a different location, these operating instructions must be included.
Additional documents which you must observe:
- the separate operating instructions for the vacuum pump
- the separate operating instructions for the cold trap
- the separate service manual for service and repair work
1.2 Intended use
The machine detailed here is an infrared vortex evaporator. The evaporator is used to evaporate liquids with the
aid of an infrared lamp and the influence of an external vacuum while samples are shaken at the same time. The
evaporator may only be used for this purpose. Any other/extended use is not regarded as an intended use. The
manufacturer or their national representative shall not be liable for any damage resulting from such usage.
The intended use also includes adherence to all information within the operating instructions, as well as the
relevant and known accident prevention guidelines and the fulfilment of the required inspection and maintenance
work. If the evaporator is installed within another machine or integrated into a system, the manufacturer of the
complete system will be responsible for its safety.
1.3 Residual risks
The machine has been built in accordance with current state of the art technology and the recognised safety-
related rules. Improper use and handling may constitute risks to life and limb of the user or third parties, or cause
damage to the machine/other material assets. The machine may only be utilised for its intended use, and only
when in perfect functioning order. Any faults which may impair safety must be eliminated immediately.

1.7 Safety information
No guarantee claim will be considered by the manufacturer unless all information in these
operating instructions has been adhered to.
The DancerPlus must be structurally stable for operation and the cover must be able to be
opened easily. A sufficient fresh air supply and appropriate exhaust air discharge must be
ensured.
The DancerPlus evaporator has been built in accordance with current state of the art technology and is
operationally reliable. However, danger to the user or third parties may occur if it is not operated by sufficiently
trained personnel, is operated improperly or used for a non-intended purpose.
The following points must be observed:
▪The operating instructions must be read and observed before the DancerPlus is commissioned
▪The recognised technical regulations and guidelines for safe and professional work must also be
observed in addition to the operating instructions and binding accident prevention guidelines. The
operating instructions must be supplemented by instructions based on the country of use’s prevailing
national regulations regarding accident prevention and environmental protection
▪Only connect the DancerPlus to a residual current circuit breaker with a shockproof socket, only use a
power cable that fulfils the regulations and is in flawless condition. Defective or inadequate earthing may
have fatal consequences.
▪The requirements regarding mains voltage and power consumption must be observed
▪Condensation may build up if the DancerPlus is moved into the operating area from a cold environment.
In this case, allow the device to acclimatise for 24 hours
▪Observe the permitted ambient conditions and ensure a sufficient fresh air supply
▪When the solvents are evaporated, a vacuum is created by the vacuum pump. Therefore, the applicable
safety regulations for the creation and measurement of a vacuum must be observed. The operating
instructions of the utilised vacuum pump must also be observed in this regard
▪Any interventions on the device may only be carried out by sufficiently qualified personnel. Only use original
parts and accessories. Using components made by other manufacturers may impair the functionality or
safety of the device, as well as the electromagnetic compatibility
▪No solvent containers or other objects may be placed on the DancerPlus
▪When cleaning the device, never use abrasive materials and cleaning agents, as these may damage the
surfaces
▪Never use blades or knives for cleaning
▪Only use a soft cloth moistened with lukewarm water for cleaning the housing
▪The sight glass can be cleaned with any regular window cleaning agent

1.8 Operating personnel requirements
The DancerPlus, as well as other devices connected to it within the system (such as the vacuum pump or cold
trap), may only be operated and serviced by personnel of the legal minimum age who have been instructed on
how to do so. Personnel who are being trained, taught, instructed, are undergoing general training or are part of
an internship programme may only carry out work on the device while under constant supervision from an
experienced person. Repair and maintenance work may only be carried out by electricians authorised by the
manufacturer. The specifications in the separate service manual must be observed.
1.9 Responsibility of the owner
The owner of the DancerPlus
•is responsible for the perfect functioning order of the DancerPlus and its system devices such as the
vacuum pump and, if required, the cold trap (description in the pertinent operating instructions), as well
as ensuring that the DancerPlus is used for its intended purpose (as described in chapter 1.2)
•is responsible for ensuring that personnel who operate the DancerPlus alone or in the system or those
who are meant to service it have the required qualifications, have been properly trained on how to
operate the device alone or in the system and have familiarised themselves with these operating
instructions
•must be aware of its applicable regulations, guidelines and health and safety specifications and instruct
personnel accordingly
•is responsible for ensuring that unauthorised persons are prevented from accessing the DancerPlus and
its system
•is responsible for ensuring that the maintenance plan is adhered to and all maintenance work is carried
out correctly and professionally
•is responsible for ensuring that operating personnel wear the correct personal protective equipment,
e.g. protective gloves, goggles etc. as well as guaranteeing order and cleanliness at the DancerPlus,
alone and in the system as well as within its surroundings, through corresponding instruction and
supervision
•is responsible for ensuring that the DancerPlus and other system devices are not subjected to any
unauthorised modifications, e.g. improper adjustment of the calibration/offset values. Any parts which
have not been authorised or approved by the manufacturer may not be attached or installed.
Unauthorised modifications result in the CE conformity being voided, and the DancerPlus as well
as its system devices must not continue to be operated in such a situation
The manufacturer or authorised supplier shall not be liable for any damage, hazards or injuries,
nor any subsequent costs incurred due to operational failures or treatment directly related to any
unauthorised modifications or non-observance of the guidelines in this manual.

1.10 Resistance of the vacuum chamber
When the following chemicals are evaporated, there is a risk of erosive surface corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion
or stress corrosion cracking according to our chrome steel supplier Nirosta®. This may lead to vacuum leakage.

When evaporating the aforementioned solvents using the DancerPlus, we recommend thoroughly
cleaning the vacuum chamber and rinsing it daily.
This includes the tube connection system for the vacuum pump and, if required, for the cold trap,
as well as the cold trap chamber.

2.0 Unpacking
Do not lift at the front panel or the cover!
Note the weight of the DancerPlus, see chapter 1.4 Technical data
With the adequate number of helpers, lift the DancerPlus upwards out of the cardboard
package at both sides via the folding handles, Fig. 8 no. 2 and put it in the designated place.
2.1 Transportation
The DancerPlus may only be transported when upright and with its cover closed, and it must be
switched off for a minimum of 2 hours before transportation. The shaking plate and the sample
rack are transported separately from and outside the DancerPlus, unless the rack transportation
lock is used. If the device has to be transported away from its location, e.g. to be relocated or for
repairs at the manufacturer’s or supplier’s premises, we recommend using the original
packaging, or order packaging if required
The DancerPlus must be properly disinfected, decontaminated and cleaned by the user
beforehand. Following this, we recommend attaching a decontamination declaration to the
DancerPlus.
When the DancerPlus is dispatched to the national representative or the manufacturer, a
corresponding declaration must also be included. We reserve the right not to accept a
contaminated DancerPlus. Any costs incurred for cleaning and disinfection measures shall be
invoiced to the customer. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

2.2.8 Sample racks
There are several racks available for working with the DancerPlus. All racks contain bores enabling each one to
be screwed to the shaking plate. You may also choose the FAST option to connect the rack to the shaking plate
without having to use screws.
The racks are manufactured from anodized aluminium. Flawless functioning of the device can only be guaranteed
if original racks are used.
Self-built racks or setups that are not approved by the manufacturer or its national representative
will result in the voiding of the guarantee on the shaking plate and drive.

The R0121 rack for the DWP (3 pieces) or microtiter plates are not suitable for the FAST option
for the shaking plate.
When the rack is removed, the temperature sensor must first be removed from the hole and laid
aside in order to prevent the PTFE sleeve of the temperature sensor or its cable from being bent
or scraped.
If the temperature sensor is bent, the sensor itself may become broken and the device will no
longer function as a result.
If the PTFE sleeve is scraped, this may cause a leakage which will prevent the vacuum pump
from being able to reach the final value. In both cases, the guarantee on a new temperature
sensor, its installation and potential transport costs will become void.

2.3 Installation
2.3.1 Location
The DancerPlus must be structurally stable for operation.
In order to ensure a sufficient fresh air supply, the ventilation slots (Fig. 6 no. 1 or Fig. 8 no. 3)
must not be blocked or obstructed with materials, paper, a folder etc., and a minimum distance
of 20 cm from an impediment must be maintained. The fan should always work in parallel with
the IR lamp (Fig. 7 no. 2) when the lid is closed.
The DancerPlus and the vacuum pump shake when in operation, which means that these devices
must not be on the same working surface as, for example, a microbalance, microscope, HPLC,
sensitive analysis devices, sample and cell culture storage areas, etc.
2.3.2 Operation with inert gas, vacuum pump, cold trap
For operation with inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, the inert gas line is connected at the release inlet (Fig. 6 no. 3) in order
to ventilate or fill up the vacuum chamber (Fig. 7) during the vacuum relief process with inert gas. This is
recommended during the evaporation of solvents, e.g. ether, benzene etc. with a low flashpoint or ignition point.
Install a pressure reduction valve with a manometer featuring a display range of 0 bar to 6 bar
and set the pressure to 2 bar (29psi).
As nitrogen is heavier than air, open the cover carefully and slowly so that the samples in the
vacuum chamber remain shielded in the inert gas build-up.
The security guidelines relating to inert gas in general, and in particular following a power
interruption or defect, must also be observed.
Diaphragm and rotary vane pumps are all suitable for operation with the DancerPlus. We recommend that you
use a Vacuubrand® PC3003 Vario diaphragm pump for the careful constriction or evaporation of solvents. This
will allow pumping to be carried out at time-controlled gradients, as well as with automatic boiling pressure
detection and tracking. A rotary vane pump is better suited for the evaporation of solvents such as DMSO, or for
the drying of powders or silica gel.
A diaphragm pump and rotary vane pump with a switchover valve may be used for the
evaporation of various solvents and for different working processes.
We recommend pre-connecting a cold trap, e.g. the PoleStar, to aid the vacuum pump in the evaporation of
solvents. This not only saves time during the evaporation process, but also provides relief to the vacuum pump,
ambient air, the persons present in the area and the environment due to the hazardous substances being
effectively contained.
The vacuum pump should be installed opposite the PoleStar cold trap at a slight increase in height, and is
connected to the tube connection. The operating instructions of the PoleStar cold trap and the vacuum pump
must be observed.
2.3.3 When using a Vacuubrand® diaphragm pump and PoleStar cold trap:
Fit the external vacuum sensor (Fig. 9) with the corresponding fittings so that the sensor protrudes
from above with an angle of 45° ±15°; this will prevent condensation and liquid build-ups on the
sensor. This will result in an incorrect pressure measurement.

2.3.4 When using a Vacuubrand® diaphragm pump without the PoleStar cold trap:
Fit the external vacuum sensor (Fig. 9) with the corresponding fittings so that the sensor protrudes
from above with an angle of 45° ±15°; this will prevent condensation and liquid build-ups on the
sensor. This will result in an incorrect pressure measurement.
2.3.5 When using a Vacuubrand® rotary vane pump and PoleStar cold trap:
Fit the metal tube of the DancerPlus vacuum connection to prevent liquid build-ups or siphons in
the metal tube. The outlet of the rotary vane pump contains oil particles; this is not permitted in
a cleanroom environment, i.e. the rotary vane pump must be installed outside the cleanroom. For
installation in a normal laboratory facility, we recommend extracting the rotary vane pump exhaust
air.
2.3.6 When using a Vacuubrand® rotary vane pump without the PoleStar cold trap:
The outlet of the rotary vane pump contains oil particles; this is not permitted in a cleanroom
environment, i.e. the rotary vane pump must be installed outside the cleanroom.
For installation in a normal laboratory facility, we recommend extracting the rotary vane pump
exhaust air. When solvents are evaporated with the DancerPlus, the mixture of gas, oil and air
constitutes an explosion hazard and the direct extraction of exhaust air is therefore mandatory.
Attention: The extraction may not be carried out via a normal exhaust system, as these are usually
not explosion proof; this means a special exhaust system is required.
2.3.7 Installation of the rack and shaking plate
Without the FAST option, the rack is screwed to the shaking plate; this ensures that the hole for the temperature
sensor is in the rear right area. Carefully insert the rack with the shaking plate into the vacuum chamber so that
all feet of the shaking plate fully fit into the corresponding recesses in the vacuum chamber (for the magnetic
drive). Insert the temperature sensor into the corresponding hole, see Fig. 3 and Fig. 4.
With the FAST option, the shaking plate is carefully inserted into the vacuum chamber with the already fitted rack
pins (see Fig. 2) so as to ensure that all feet of the shaking plate fully fit into the corresponding recesses in the
vacuum chamber (for the magnetic drive).
The rack is now carefully lowered over and parallel to the rack pins, ensuring that the temperature
sensor hole is in the rear right area and that the rack does not tilt against the rack pins.
During the initial commissioning, the DancerPlus must not be left unattended before it has
reached a steady state.
Please be aware that the devices described here are not explosion proof (they do not fulfil
guideline VBG 24 of the German Employer’s Liability Insurance Association). Explosive mixtures
of gas and air must not be present within the immediate vicinity of the device.
Significant dust formation or aggressive vapours in the environment of the DancerPlus may lead
to debris within the device’s interior, consequently causing short-circuiting or damage to the
electronics. Sufficient measures must therefore be taken to prevent significant dust formation and
aggressive vapours in the immediate vicinity of the device.
