HIFEI Technology ESC-10A User manual

Programmablelow voltage cutoff
Programmable cutoff types (softcutoff/hard cutoff)
Programmablebrake types (disable/softbrake/hard brake)
Time advance programmable (low/middle/high/auto)
Programmable currentlimiting (verysensitive/standard/insensitive/disable)
Programmable startuptypes (verysoftstart/softstart/faststart)
ThermalProtection(100 centigrade)
Applyto mostofinrunner and outrunner brushless motors.
Nocomplexprogramming, auto adaptworkmode.
ALED (flashes) indicates the current limiting or temperature protectionis activated.
Runs motor in forward or reverse byswapping anytwo motor wire connections.
Safe “power on”arming programensures motor willnot accidentallyturnon.
Auto shutdownwhensignalislostor radio interference becomes severe formore than3 seconds
After radioconnectionhas beenreestablished, moving thethrottleto thelowestpositioncan
restart themotor.
The ESC is disabled whenthe voltage is over 14Vat power-on.
Use the programmable features
TheHifei®ESCsofferstheeightuserprogrammablefeatures,includinglowcutoffvoltage,
currentlimiting,brake type,timingadvance,cutofftype,softstart, governor mode andPWM
switching rate.
1 Low Cut-off Voltage
NOTE: LowCut-off Voltage canprotectthemainbatteryfromdischarged toolow,andprovide
the normaloperating voltage to receiver and servos.
2 Current Limiting
NOTE: Defaultsettingisrecommended. Ifyouchange thesetting, damage tothecontroller as a
resultofover current willbe not covered bythemanufacturer’s warranty.
Option1:Auto LipoAuto LipoCells Detecting
Option2:5.0V(default)6-8 cell NiCad or NiMH packs, or 2 cellLithiumpacks
Option3:6.0V 8 cellNiCad or NiMH packs, or 2 cell Lithiumpacks
Option4:7.2V 9 cellNiCad or NiMH packs
Option5:8.4V 10 cellNiCad or NiMH packs, or 3 cell Lithiumpacks
Option6:9.0V 12 cellNiCad/ NiMH packs, or 3 cellLithiumpacks
Option7:12.0V 4 cellLithiumpacks
Option1: VerySensitivityLow over-currentthreshold, willrapidlyshut-down.
Option
2:Standard(default) Moderate over-currentthreshold, willshutdownafter a
slightdelay. Recommended for inrunner motors.
Option3:Insensitivity Highover-currentthreshold, willshutdownafter aslight
delay. Recommended for outrunner motors. Only
experienced modelers should use this programming
feature
Option4: disabled Currentlimitingdetectiondisabled. Onlyexperienced
modelers should use this programming feature.
Warning
Whenconnecting the ESC, ensure thatthe polarityofbatteryis correct. Incorrectpolaritymay
cause permanentdamage to the ESC and suchdamage isnot covered bythe WARRANTY.
Whenyou use the ESC, turnonthe transmitter BEFORE powering onthe receiver.
Whenyou are finished, power off the receiver BEFORE turning off the transmitter.
Thelimiting currentis settothe standard mode in factory. Itis suitablefor use in most
configurations. Only experienced technicians canadjustthis programming.
InGovernor Mode, the brake is always disabled and the softcutoff is always active.
Changing the PWMmaycause themotor toheat ahead oftime.
Donot playonor near water. Never allow water, moisture or anyforeignobjectonto the PC
board ofthe ESC.
Damage to the controller as a resultofexcessivelyhighcurrentisnot covered bythe
manufacturer’s WARRANTY.
Allowing water, lubricants, moisture or other foreignobjects inside the ESC willVOID the
WARRANTY. Exposure to CAglue or itsfumes cancause damage andmalfunction; this will
alsoVOID the WARRANTY.
Never disconnectthe batterypack while themotor is running, as this could cause damage tothe
speed controller and/or motor.
Never allow the separate heatsinks totoucheach other or anyexposed conductive surface. This
maycause shortcircuit, damage the ESC, and VOID the WARRANTY.
Connectors withlow conductivitymaycause erraticmotor rotations or other unexpected
movements
Ifyou are not using the BEC functionofthe ESC and are using a separate receiver battery
instead youmustdisconnectthe red wire fromthe controllers JR connector.
Thecontroller willautomaticallypower offthemotorif the batteryvoltage drops belowthe
programmed cut-off voltage (factorypreset at5.0V).Tryusingasmaller proponthemotor,or
usingbatteries witha higher rating. Itis especiallyimportantfor the user ofLi-poly cells.

3 Brake Type
4 Timing Advance
5 Cutoff Type
NOTE: Softcutoff is always automaticallyactivein Governor Mode.
6 Soft Start
7 Governormode
.
NOTE: The Governor mode acts as anRPM control. Throttle stick positiondetermines the RPM that the
motor runs and the controller willattempttohold thatRPM regardless ofload changes. InGovernor Mode,
the brake is always disabled and softcutoff is automaticallyactive.
8 PWM
Note: westrongly recommend only the experienced modeller could change this setting.
Option1:Brake disabled
(default) Brake disabled ismainlyused for helicopters.
Option2:Softbrake Softbrake provides 50% offullbraking power. Generalaircraft
use, withfixed or folding prop
Option3:Hard brake Hard brake is70% braking power. Direct driveapplicationswhere
more braking power isrequired. Hard brake shouldonly beused
below 12V.
Option1: Low advance
timing 0°~ 15 °Recommended for more lower pole countmotors. Gives more
power and slightly less efficient.
Option2: middle
advance timing 5 °~ 20
°
Recommended for mostmotors .Gives a goodbalance ofpower
and efficiency.
Option3: Highadvance
timing 15°~ 30 °Recommended for mostofhigher pole countmotors
Option4:Auto(default) Recommended for mostofall brushless motors.
Option1 :Hard cutoff
(default)
Whenbatteryvoltage reaches cut-off voltage the motor will
shutdownimmediately,.Motor canbe restarted byclosing the
throttle to thelowestpositionand thenmove the throttle as
Option2: Softcutoff Whenbatteryvoltage reaches cut-offvoltage, slowlyreduces
motor power tozero , you willnotice a decrease in power anditis
time toland, the throttlemaintains itsfull linear.
Option1: VerysoftstartRecommended for helicopters
Option2:Softstart(default)Recommended for mostofthe fixed or fold propairplanes,
helicopters.
Option3: FaststartRecommended for fastest startup.
