FILLING WATER TANK
1. Be sure the humidifier is switched off.
2. Select a location for your humidifier, on a flat level
surface about 4 inch away from the wall. DO NOT place
the humidifier on a finished floor or near furniture,
which can be damaged by too much moisture or water.
Place on a moisture resistant surface.
3. Expose the humidifier tank by opening the top cover.
4. Bring the humidifier tank to the sink and fill the tank
with cool, fresh tap water. Do NOT fill past the
maximum fill level. DO NOT fill with warm water as
this may cause leaking. The tank will hold
approximately 1/2 gallon of water.
5. Place tank back into the humidifier base. and close
the top cover. The tank will immediately begin to
empty into the base.
6. Plug the humidifier into a 120V electrical outlet.
USING THE AROMTHERAPY TRAY
Your Holmes®Ultrasonic Humidifier includes an
Aromatherapy Tray that is compatible with essential oils
or VICKS®VapoPads®* Refill Scent Pads for maximum
comfort.
1. Locate the Aromatherapy Tray on back side of the
Humidifier Base (See Figure 1).
2. Pull the tray handle to expose the full aromatherapy
pad.
3. Place 3-4 drops of essential oil directly onto the pad
or place the VICKS®VapoPads®* Refill Scent Pads into
the tray.
4. Push the Aromatherapy Tray back into the closed
position.

VapoPads®Refill Scent Pads Recommended
Usage:
• Not recommended for infants under 10 pounds.
• For children between 10-22 pounds, do not use more
than 2 pads in a 24 hour period.
WARNING: Do not rub face or eyes after touching scent
pad. Do not put fingers in mouth after touching scent
pad. Oils in the pad could act as an irritant to eyes.
WARNING: Keep scented aromatherapy pads out of
reach of children.
NOTE: Refer to VICKS®VapoPads®package for usage
directions and warnings.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. To turn the unit on, press the Power Button ( ), the
humidifier will run at High setting, and the Indicator
Light will illuminate in BLUE. Press the button again
and the humidifier will switch to Low setting and the
Indicator Light will illuminate in PURPLE. Another press
of the button will turn the humidifier to Standby mode
and the Indicator Light will turn off.
2. When the humidifier runs out of water, the transducer
and fan will automatically shut off.
3. Once the tank is empty, the RED Indicator Light will
flash 10 times indicating that the humidifier is in low
water level condition. Unplug the unit.
4. Before refilling the tank, empty any residual water from
the base and tank. Follow daily maintenance instructions.
5. Follow the FILLING WATER TANK instructions to fill
tank, and then operate the humidifier normally.
NOTE: DO NOT move the humidifier with water in the
tank or the humidifier base. The moving action of the
water may activate the water tank’s release nozzle and
overfill the transducer cavity. This may cause the
humidifier to function intermittently, or stop emitting
mist. Should this occur, simply remove the excess water
from the humidifier base.
IMPORTANT: If you do not plan to use your humidifier
for two or more days, make sure any residual water is
drained from the water tank and base to prevent any
algae or bacteria growth in stagnant water. Make sure
the tank is dry.
NOTE: To avoid white dust use only distilled water
especially if A) you suffer from respiratory problems or
B) you live in an area where the water has a high
mineral content.

19. Never operate unit without water in the tank. Do not
pour water in any openings other than the water tank.
20. WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD - Humidifier contains
small parts. Keep aromatherapy tray and scented

NOTICES
1. Do not allow the Moisture Outlet to directly face the
wall. Moisture could cause damage, particularly to
wallpaper.
2. Keep unit away from surfaces that can be damaged
by water and/or heat (such as wood floors). Place
mat underneath the unit during use. Do not place
humidifier under overhanging surfaces.
3. Do not place the humidifier on a rug or carpet. The
heat sink underneath the humidifier might cause the
carpet to be discolored and may cause overheating of
the unit.
4. Excessive humidity in a room can cause water
condensation on windows and some furniture. If this
happens, turn the humidifier OFF.
POWER CORD INSTRUCTIONS:
A short power-supply cord or detachable power-supply
cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming
entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Longer
detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are
available and may be used if care is exercised in their
use. If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension
cord is used on short-cord models:
a. The marked electrical rating of the detachable power-
supply cord or extension cord should be at least as
great as the electrical rating of the appliance;
b. When the product is of the grounded type, the
extension cord shall be a grounding type 3-wire cord;
and
c. The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not
drape over the counter top or table top where it can be
pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
Do not pull, twist or otherwise abuse the power cord.
Do not wrap the power cord around the main body of the
appliance during or after use.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions
should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire,
electric shock, and injury to persons, including the

1. Read all instructions before using the appliance.
2. To protect against electric shock, do not place or
immerse cord, plugs, or appliance in water or other
liquid. Do not plug in the cord with wet hands. Do not
overfill the water tank.
3. Plug the appliance directly into a 120VAC electrical
outlet.
4. This appliance is not intended for use by children or by
persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental
capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge.
Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is
used near children. Children should be supervised to
ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Keep
the appliance and its cord out of reach of children.
5. Never place humidifier in an area where it is accessible
to children. Never use humidifier in a closed room,
particularly where a child may be sleeping, resting, or
playing (a closed room may result in excessive
humidity).
6. Keep the cord out of heavy traffic areas. To reduce risk
of fire, never put the cord under rugs or near heat
registers.
7. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or
plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been
damaged in any manner. Do not attempt to replace or
splice a damaged cord. Return appliance to the
manufacturer (see warranty) for examination, repair
or adjustment.
8. Do not place on or near wet surfaces, or near heat
sources such as stoves, radiators, and heaters.
9. Place your humidifier on an inside wall near an
electrical outlet. The humidifier should be at least 4
inches (10 cm) away from the wall for best results.
10. WARNING: Do not attempt to refill humidifier without
first unplugging the unit from its electrical outlet.
Failure to heed this warning may cause personal
injury.
11. Unplug from outlet when not in use, before putting on
or taking off parts and before cleaning. To disconnect,
turn any control to OFF, then unplug power cord from
outlet. Be sure to unplug the unit by pulling on the
plug and not the cord.
12. Do not block air inlet or outlet. Never drop or insert
any object into any openings. Do not place hands, face
or body directly over or near the outlet while unit is in
operation.
13. Do not use outdoors or for commercial purposes.
14. Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
Misuse can cause injuries.
15. Always place humidifier on a dry, stable, level surface.
16. WARNING: Failure to clean device per the cleaning
instructions in the Cleaning Section may result in
overheating or fire. This humidifier requires daily and
weekly maintenance to operate appropriately. Refer to
daily and weekly cleaning procedures. Use only
cleaners and additives recommended by the
manufacturer. Never use gasoline, glass cleaner,
furniture polish, paint thinner, or other household
solvents to clean any part of the humidifier.
17. Never tilt, move, or attempt to empty unit while it is
operating. Shut off and unplug before removing the
water tank and moving the unit. Use both hands when
carrying a full tank of water. Do not move unit after it
has been used until unit cools completely.
18. Do not use humidifier in an area where humidity level
is in excess of 50%. Use a hygrometer, available at

POLARIZED PLUG
This appliance has a polarized plug, (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety
feature to reduce the risk of electrical shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized
outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still
does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature
or modify the plug in any way. If the plug fits loosely into the AC outlet or if the AC
outlet feels warm do not use that outlet.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
INSTRUCTIONS
Humidifiers provide comfort by adding moisture to dry,
heated indoor air. To benefit most from the humidifier
and avoid product misuse, follow all instructions carefully.
Please note that this is an electrical appliance and
requires attention when in use.
In addition, if you do not follow the recommended care
and maintenance guidelines, micro-organisms may be
able to grow in the water within the humidifier's tank.
You must routinely follow the cleaning procedures that
follow in order to ensure proper, efficient operation of
your humidifier. Proper maintenance and cleaning is
essential to the continued performance of your unit and
the avoidance of algae or bacteria build-up.
This appliance has no user serviceable parts. Any
servicing beyond that described in the Cleaning Section
should be performed by an Authorized Service
Representative only. See warranty available online.
DAILY MAINTENANCE
1. Be sure the unit is OFF and is disconnected from the
electrical outlet
2. Remove the tank from the humidifier and place in
sink or tub.
3. Drain any remaining water and rinse thoroughly to
remove any sediment or dirt. Wipe clean and dry
with a clean cloth or paper towel.
4. Refill with cool tap water. Do not overfill.
WEEKLY MAINTENANCE
To Remove Scale:
1. Repeat steps 1-3 above.
2. Clean all surfaces with a soft brush. Gently scrub the
area around the transducer with a soft brush.
Remove the scale by wiping the entire base with a
cloth dampened with undiluted white vinegar.
3. Rinse clean with warm water to remove cleaning
solution before disinfecting the tank.
To Disinfect Tank
1. Fill humidifier tank 1/2 full with water and 1/2
tablespoon of chlorine bleach.
2. Let the solution stand for 20 minutes, swishing every
few minutes. Wet all surfaces.
3. Carefully empty the tank after 20 minutes, and rinse
with warm water until you can not detect any bleach
smell. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
4. Refill the water tank as directed in Operating
Instructions, and turn the unit on.
