other hazards please read all warnings and instructions included with and on the fixture box and all fixture labels.
 Before installing, servicing, or performing routine maintenance upon this equipment, follow these general precautions.
 Installation and service of luminaires should be performed by a qualified licensed electrician.
 Maintenance of the luminaires should be performed by person(s) familiar with the luminaires’ construction and operation
and any hazards involved. Regular fixture maintenance programs are recommended.
 It will occasionally be necessary to clean the outside of the refractor/lens. Frequency of cleaning will depend on ambient
dirt level and minimum light output which is acceptable to user. Refractor/lens should be washed in a solution of warm
water and any mild, non-abrasive household detergent, rinsed with clean water and wiped dry. Should optical assembly
become dirty on the inside, wipe refractor/lens and clean in above manner, replacing damaged gaskets as necessary.
 DO NOT INSTALL DAMAGED PRODUCT! This luminaire has been properly packed so that no parts should have been
damaged during transit. Inspect to confirm. Any part damaged or broken during or after assembly should be replaced.

 Never connect components under load.
 Do not mount or support these fixtures in a manner that can cut the outer jacket or damage wire
insulation.
 Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Never connect an LED product directly to a
dimmer packs, occupancy sensors, timing devices, or other related control devices. LED fixtures must be
powered directly off a switched circuit.
 Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Do not restrict fixture ventilation. Allow for
some volume of airspace around fixture. Avoid covering LED fixtures with insulation, foam, or other
material that will prevent convection or conduction cooling.
 Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Do not exceed fixtures maximum ambient
temperature.
 Only use fixture in its intended location.
 Electrostatic Discharge (ESD): ESD can damage LED fixtures. Personal grounding equipment must be
worn during all installation or servicing of the unit.
 Do not touch individual electrical components as this can cause ESD, shorten lamp life, or alter
performance.
 Some components inside the fixture may not be serviceable. In the unlikely event your unit may require
service, stop using the unit immediately and contact an ABL representative for assistance.
 Always read the fixtures complete installation instructions prior to installation for any additional fixture
specific warnings.

rincé à l’eau claire et essuyé. En cas d’accumulation de saletés à l’intérieur de l’ensemble optique, essuyer le réfracteur/la
lentille et le nettoyer comme indiqué ci-dessus, en remplaçant les joints endommagés selon le besoin.

1 Introduction

2 Installation
2.1 Tools and Materials Required.

2.2 Existing Luminaire Removal
2.2.1 Disconnect power to luminaire location.
2.2.2 Remove existing luminaire, keeping mounting
cover in place. Mounting cover must be suitable to
support PXLW luminaire. See table 1 for full mounting
cover compatibility chart.
2.2.3 Ensure existing wiring is undamaged and meets
applicable code requirements.
2.2.4 Inspect existing mounting cover for corrosion,
structural damage, or sealing joint interruption. Clean
sealing joint to ensure a smooth interface surface.
2.2.5 If using PXLW Adaptor full luminaire, go to step 3
2.2.6 If using PXLWAR Adaptor Accessory, remove
PXLW mounting cover and replace with PXLW adaptor.
Ensure adaptor wiring is connected properly to PXLW
wiring (see below for wiring diagrams). See figure 2 for
illustration of full luminaire and kit components. Torque
closure screw as shown in figure 1A.

The PXLW is provided with asymmetric distributions
when ordered with the Forward Throw (FWD) or Long &
Narrow (ND) distribution. Ensure correct type is being
used for your application. Top of electrical cover is
provided with arrows to indicate orientation of
asymmetric distribution.

3 Luminaire Installation (Figure 3)
3.1 Mounting
3.1.1 If mounting the PXLW luminaire to a mounting
cover that has a wall or stanchion mount, remove the
shield bracket as shown in Fig 4. If the mounting cover
does not include a wall or stanchion mount, keep the
shield bracket in place.
3.1.2 Hang the PXLW luminaire hinge pin on the existing
top cover hook.
3.1.3 Make appropriate supply and ground connections
to the luminaire wires in accordance with local codes
inside PXLW luminaire wiring chamber. Bypass any
existing fuses, fuseholders, or photocells. Use purple
and grey wires on PXLW luminaire to make dimming
connections, if provided. See section 4 for backup
battery option. Cap any leads from PXLW luminaire or
existing wiring that are not in use.
3.1.5 If mounting the PXLW luminaire to a Petrolux
mounting cover (see Table 1 for appropriate PXLW
nomenclature), removing existing mounting cover
gasket.
3.1.6 Close PXLW fixture to existing mounting cover
using closure screw. Ensure wires are not pinched in
sealing surface. Tighten closure screw to torque
specified in Figure 1-A.
3.1.7 Energize luminaire and check for correct operation.
4 Backup Battery Option
4.1 Bring 4 conductor power – 3 conductors switched, 1
conductor un-switched -- into PXLW luminaire wiring
chamber.
4.2 Connect switched power line to white, black, and
green conductors as per electrical code
4.3 Connect un-switched power line to black lead
labeled “UNSWITCHED LINE”

6 Maintenance
6.1 Gasket Joint Surfaces
6.1.1 Check the condition of gaskets and gasket joint
surfaces. Gaskets that show signs of damage or wear
and gasket joint surfaces that have debris may affect
seal integrity.

6.2 Cleaning
6.2.1 Disconnect power to the unit prior to opening and
performing any maintenance.
6.2.2 Wipe off exterior dirt and debris using a soft clean
cloth. A mild detergent and water may be used if
necessary.

DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS ON OPTICAL
SURFACES. THEIR USE MAY RESULT IN THE LOSS
OF OPTICAL EFFICIENCY

6.3 Optic Replacement (Figure 6)
6.3.1 Disconnect power to the luminaire.
6.3.2 Remove luminaire and set on a work surface for
optic replacement.
6.3.3 Remove the four fasteners holding the ring and
glass optical assembly using a T-20 center pin Torx
driver.
6.3.4 Replace with new optical assembly into heatsink
using the drip edge as a guide. Inspect optical gasket
surface and remove debris that may affect seal integrity.
6.3.5 Partially thread each ring fastener into the heat
sink.
6.3.6 Then drive each ring fastener, one by one, further
down in a sequential pattern until the ring is seated
against the heat sink.
6.3.7 Tighten each ring fastener to between 25 and 35
inch pounds.

6.4.1 Disconnect power to the luminaire location before
maintenance. Loosen closure screw and open electrical
housing. See Figure 1-A.
6.4.2 Tag leads before disconnecting.
6.4.3 Replace components using Holophane approved
replacement parts.
6.4.4 Examine the condition of electrical cover gasket
and gasket joint surfaces.
6.4.5 Re-connect electrical components
6.4.6 Close luminaire and tighten closure screw to
torque specified in Figure 1-A.
