CONNECTIONS
1. POWER
Rocker switch to isolate the mains power from the CDJ-1. It is recommended to turn off the power to
the CDJ-1 when the unit will not be in use for long periods of time.
2. AC IN
Please use the mains cable supplied, which will allow connection to the relevant mains wall plug
in your country. Please check the voltage label below this inlet to ensure that the voltage is
correct for your region. Please consult your local dealer if you are unsure that this is correct.
3. FX SEND (L/R), 4. FX RETURN (L/R) SOCKETS
It is possible to use special effect units with the CDJ-1. The FX send socket allows the output signal
path to be broken to insert a special effects unit prior to the amplier. It is necessary to return the
signal to the FX return to complete the audio path. See page 6.
The FX send RCA phono sockets tted to the CDJ-1 will automatically disconnect the audio signal
path when a plug is inserted, therefore it is necessary to return the signal through the FX return
sockets before sound can be heard.
5. AMP OUTPUT SOCKETS
The CDJ-1 allows connection to a bigger amplier for higher power applications. The internal
amplier will be disconnected when cables are inserted into these sockets. The output sensitivity of
this output is 775mV @ 0dB. See page 6.
6. MIC INPUT SOCKET
It is possible to use most microphones with the CDJ-1. It is recommended to use a mic with an
impedance of 600 ohms. See page 6.
7. HEADPHONE SOCKET
It is possible to use most headphones with the CDJ-1. It is recommended to use headphones with an
impedance of 32 ohms. See page 6.
8. BATTERY COMPARTMENT
It is possible to use the CDJ-1 using batteries, you will require x 6 D type heavy duty alkaline
batteries. Please observe the correct orientation which is indicated on the base of the chassis.
Batteries are liable to leakage, so please remove from the CDJ-1 if it will not be used for long periods
of time. Also remove when discharged. The CDJ-1 requires a large amount of current to operate
at high volume levels. Please note, the battery life will be seriously impaired when operating all
functions on the CDJ-1.

FX SEND (L/R) & FX RETURN (L/R) SOCKETS
The DJ’ing experience can be enhanced by using a special effects (FX) processor which will allow
sound shaping tools to be added to the music content.
To send the output signal to an effects unit, use left and right phono leads, and connect to the FX
send sockets on the side panel of the CDJ-1. By plugging this lead into the CDJ-1, this will interrupt
the signal path to allow the effect to be inserted. It is necessary to bring the processed signal back
into the CDJ-1, this can be done by using another set of phono leads to connect to the output of the
effects unit to the FX return sockets on the CDJ-1. It may be necessary to alter, or set the working
levels on the effects processor to allow similar output levels to be maintained. This will be detailed in
the instruction manual which accompanies the effect processor.
AMP OUTPUT SOCKETS
The speakers tted inside the CDJ-1 are limited in their size and power handling, and will give a limit
to the sound levels achievable from the CDJ-1. In order to allow higher volumes to be produced, the
CDJ-1 is tted with external amp sockets to allow a bigger amp and speakers to be used. Connect
left and right phono leads to the amp output sockets on the side panel of the CDJ-1, and connect the
other end to a corresponding line input on an external amplier. (you may use an AUX socket or tape
socket if tted). The output signal level of these sockets is 775mV
@ 0db, this should allow connection to most audio ampliers. The internal loudspeakers tted to the
CDJ-1 will be disconnected when an external amplier is connected.
HEADPHONE SOCKET
It is possible to use headphones with the
CDJ-1 which will allow PFL (Pre fade listen)
monitoring of music channels before mixing.
Using headphones tted with a 6.25mm (1/4
inch) stereo jack plug, insert this into the
headphone socket on the side panel of the
CDJ-1. Use the headphone volume control
and the headphone selector switch (see page
8, numbers 25 & 26) to alter these settings.
6
MIC INPUT SOCKET
It is possible to connect a microphone
to the CDJ-1 to enhance your DJ
performance. Plug a mic, preferably
with an impedance of 600ohms, and
tted with a 6.25mm (1/4 inch) jack,
into the mic input socket (page 5,
number 6). The sound level of the mic
can be altered by using the mic level
control (page 8, number 24). Set the
mic level to a reasonable level, trying
to avoid feedback and distortion.

1/11. CD LID OPEN BUTTON
The CDJ-1 is tted with a spring catch which is
pushed down to release the CD door. To close
the CD door, gently push the door downwards
until the door locates in this catch again.

8/16. PITCH ACTIVATION
Hold this button down, and by repeatedly
pressing the PITCH BEND UP or PITCH BEND
DN buttons it is possible to alter the playing
speed of the CD. This speed will remain until
changed, or until the CD is stopped. The pitch
setting will be displayed on the LCD display
when the pitch button is held down.
9/14. PITCH BEND _
This allows the instant decrease of the CD
speed to -10% while it is held down. Upon
release the pitch will revert to its previous
setting.
10/15. PITCH BEND +
This allows the instant increase of the CD speed
to +10% while it is held down. Upon release the
pitch will revert to its previous setting.
MIXING TIPS.
Use the PITCH feature to alter the speed of the
CD to match the music which is playing. This can
be done by listening through the headphones
and comparing what is playing to the music that
you are monitoring. When the speeds are the
same, use the PITCH BEND + and _ to speed
up, or slow down momentarily the CD to allow
the two beats to become aligned. This takes
practice and is not easy..’practice makes perfect’
