CHAPTER
2IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICES
Note the following safety notices when installing and operating an
Experion Orion Console.
CAUTION: PINCH WARNING
Pinch points and other safety hazards have been designed out of
the product as much as feasible; however, they cannot be entirely
eliminated.
Special precaution should be taken when accessing the
equipment tray. The lift column function should not be used or
the work surface lowered while an operator is accessing the
equipment tray or any other part of the console under the work
surface.
To avoid pinch points and personal injury, operators should never
have their hand, arms, feet or any other part of their body resting
on the top of the equipment tray when the work surface is being
lowered. The top of the equipment tray should never be used as
an additional work surface and nothing should be placed on top
of it or over the ventilation holes.
CAUTION: ELECTRICAL AND FIRE SAFETY
To avoid injury or damage from electrical hazards:
lDo not perform electrical work on the console without proper
training and qualifications.
lDo not perform electrical work, without first disconnecting the
electrical power source. Do not disconnect power from the
console when the console is in active use, otherwise this could
result in a loss of view.
lUse this console only on the power voltage that the console
was delivered specifically for: 110 V AC (for North American
regions) and 220-240 V AC (for regions outside of North
America).
Many of the power inputs and outputs of this console are
equipped with universal plugs and sockets. However, this
console contains parts where the voltage is specific to the
7

region to which it is being delivered, or for the voltage
specified by the customer at the time of purchase.
lDo not operate the controls when standing in water.
lDo not operate the console if petroleum, gas, paint, or other
flammable materials are stored or used nearby.
lBe careful when grouping units on electrical circuits as to not
overload the wiring and cabling.
lEnsure that the power supply is regulated. An unstable power
supply can affect the operation of the magnetic lift columns
(use of a UPS system is recommended.)
CAUTION: PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE WITH CONSOLE USE
To avoid personal injury or damage, it is IMPORTANT to
understand the following safety information below and contained
in other sections of this guide.
The following general precautions apply to the console and must
be observed by the operator:
lDo not place objects or position body parts between the work
surface and the top of the equipment tray. DAMAGE OR
INJURY COULD RESULT WHEN THE WORK SURFACE IS
LOWERED.
lDo not disable safety features, such as height adjustment, limit
switches, and so on. BYPASSING SUCH FEATURES OR
GUARDS COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
lThe top panels or rear door of the equipment tray may be
opened with the console in any position. The interior of the
cabinet is illuminated when the door is opened or the covers
lifted off, but this is to provide illumination for visual
inspection. To prevent any risk of electrical shock, you should
disconnect power to the console when working inside the
cabinet and use a flashlight or an external light source for
illumination.
lThe top panel of the lower raceway may also be removed with
the console in any position. To prevent any risk of electrical
shock, you should disconnect power to the console when
working inside the lower raceway.
8
Chapter 2 - Important safety notices

9
lIf height adjustment of the lift column mechanism is necessary
(while working on any part of the consoles below the work
surface), turn on power momentarily and keep hands and feet
clear of all moving parts and electrical connections.
lThe height and monitor adjustment features are designed for
safe operation. To avoid injury, the operator should ensure
everyone remains clear of the moving work surface.
lThe console is designed to support expected loads. To prevent
an overload, which could cause damage to the unit or result in
injury:
lDo not sit or stand on the work surface or the attached slat
rail at any time.
lDo not place or drop heavy objects onto the work surface.
lDo not move or lift the console by the work surface, as this
will cause damage to the lift columns.
CAUTION: GENERAL PRECAUTIONS FOR CONSOLES WITH
MONITOR ARMS
Heavy loads on the monitor arms may damage the monitor arms
and could break the monitor arm and/or fall off, causing
personal injury and damage to the equipment and consoles.
The weight limits of each monitor arm should be observed and
monitor arms should not be loaded with a heavier weight.
The weight limits of each monitor arm is 18.1 kg (40 lbs). For
monitors weighing more than 18 kg, the monitor weight can be
distributed by using more than one monitor arm.
CAUTION: WIRE AND CABLE SAFETY
The Experion Orion Console has been designed to accommodate
Experion hardware and software as well as other associated and
auxiliary equipment and it is safe to operate the console with this
equipment in the suggested layouts and configurations.
The internal cable management systems of cable trays, raceways,
and cable paths should be followed and no other paths or routes
should be used. Cables should not be run externally around the
console. This can cause a number of health and safety risks for
operators and potential damage to the equipment.
Chapter 2 - Important safety notices

Each console has internal wiring and power distribution, but the
external power supply should always be connected to the
terminal block located in the lower raceway by a competent,
qualified electrician with the correct certification and permission.
Special care should be taken when wiring in any other equipment
and the following additional precautions should be observed:
lThe console is fitted with two thermostatically controlled fans
in the equipment tray for ventilation. Do not cover or obscure
the ventilation holes.
lWhen working inside the equipment tray, ensure the power is
disconnected and the fans are not operating to avoid the risk
of tools, wires, body parts, or any other materials coming into
contact with the rotating fan blades.
lFor wiring equipment, use individual cables fitted with the
correct plugs, each plug connected to an individual socket on
the power strip. Connecting multiple pieces of equipment to a
single cable or plugged into a single socket using multi
adaptors is dangerous and can result in power overloads, short
circuits, and electrical shocks.
lFor data cables and connectors, only manufacturers
recommended cables should be used in single cables to avoid
poor connections, ground loops and signal degradation. This
could detrimentally affect the operation of the data
connections.
lThe console is designed to have sufficient cable raceways and
capacity to accommodate separate data and electrical
pathways is required.
ATTENTION: GENERAL PRECAUTIONS FOR CONSOLES WITH
LIFT COLUMN MECHANISMS
The Experion Orion Console lift columns have been specifically
designed to lift the specified equipment on the work surface
and slat rail. Please note that the system is not designed to lift
substantial additional loads such as a person sitting or standing
on the work surface or slat rail or an additional piece of
equipment of considerable weight being placed on the work
surface or slat rail. These types of loadings could cause the lift
column mechanisms to be damaged or to become out of sync.

Identifying Orion Console components
Identify Experion Orion Console components within the shipping
crate.
Identification and location of Orion Console
components
The two position Experion Orion Console is shipped in a single crate,
and the three position console is shipped in two crates.
TIP: As the three position console is effectively the a pair of two
position consoles joined together and sharing a middle foot,
the crating and packing is identical for both consoles. The two
position console is designed to be installed on site using this
guide, but it is not recommended that the three position
console be installed by the customer without assistance from a
trained and certified installer. Therefore the instructions in this
guide are limited to those for the two position console.

Auxiliary units always consist of two pieces: a work surface and the
base units which require assembly for installation. Those items should
be unpacked following the same instructions provided above for the
main base unit and work surface.
Placing the Experion Orion Console into
position
Considerations for placing the Experion Orion Console and any
auxiliary units into position. Once the console is in position, you will
need to level the console.
When deciding on where to place an Experion Orion Console, you
need to consider the space requirements at the rear of the console
and the location of entry points for electrical and data connections in
and out of the console.
18
Chapter 3 - Installing an Experion Orion Console

19
Once you have determined the location and placed the Experion
Orion Console into the final position, you will need to level the
Experion Orion Console. Contained in the Experion Orion Console
toolkit is a spirit level and a spanner for adjusting the leveling bolts
located on the bottom of the console feet.
Space considerations
The entry door for the equipment tray is located at the rear of the
Experion Orion Console. Once the console has been installed, you will
need access to this entry door to install and maintain equipment
contained in the equipment tray. Therefore, you need to allow for
adequate space between any wall or barrier that is located behind the
console and the rear of the console.

To attach the work surface to the console base
1. Raise the lift columns to their full height.
a. Press the S button on the work surface lift control for one
second.
b. Release the button and then press and hold the up button until
the lift columns are at their full height.
2. With the assistance of 2 other people, lift the work surface and
align the mounting holes on the bottom of the work surface with
the mounting holes on the top of the lift columns.
3. When the mounting points under the work surface align with the
mounting holes on the top of the lift columns, insert and loosely
tighten the bolts. While you are attaching the work surface, make
sure someone else is holding the work surface steady.
4. Repeat for the other lift column, but you may find that you need to
gently move the console feet so that the mounting points in the
work surface align with the mounting holes on the top of the lift
column. Insert and loosely tighten the bolts for this lift column. If
you need to move the console feet, do not apply pressure or force
against the equipment tray as this could damage it.
5. When you have all bolts attached, you can tighten them on both lift
columns.
6. Remove the slat rail post cover. If cables are already present in the
flexible cable track, pull these cables through and thread them
through the slat rail post.
7. Position one end of the flexible cable track into the bracket hole,
and then squeeze the opposite side so that you can slide it into the
