If the bulbs fail, do not attempt to replace or fix them,
contact HSS Hire for advice.

BASIC TECHNIQUES
RAISING THE TOP MAST
Ensure that security pin on the lower
mast (locking middle mast) is in the
engaged position.
Check, that the steel cable on the
winch is hand tight and not loose.
Rotate winch handle clockwise to
tighten or counter clockwise to
loosen.
Loosen locking Knob.
Pull security pin to release and hold
out in retained position.
Crank winch clockwise to raise upper
mast to the desired height.
Release security pin into one of the
positioning holes on top mast.
Tighten the locking knob for
additional security.
RAISING THE MIDDLE MAST
Ensure that security pin on the middle mast (locking top
mast) is in the engaged position, then check, that the steel
cable on the winch is hand tight and not loose.
Loosen locking knob.
Pull security pin to release and hold out in retained position.
Crank winch clockwise to raise the second mast to the
desired height.
Release security pin into one of the positioning holes on
the middle mast.
Tighten the locking knob for additional security.
Ensure, that the steel cable is hand tight and not loose.
LOWERING OF THE HEADS (reversing the lifting procedure)
Before releasing anything, ensure that the winch cable is
tight. Release the locking pins and knobs in a reverse
sequence as in the lifting procedure. Rotating the winch
handle counter-clockwise lowers the load. The winch is
auto-braking. Stopping the handle rotation stops the
lowering. Watch the Heads carefully to avoid touching or
getting hooked on any obstacles.
If the head will not lower check that the mast locks are not
engaged. Ensure the winch line is holding the load then
disengage the locks fully. You can now continue to lower
the mast.
TRANSPORT POSITION
The steel cable must be correctly and completely rolled
up to avoid any crushing of the fibres. The stand can be
transported in a vertical or horizontal position.

GETTING STARTED
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
To reduce the risk of electric shock, use a suitable

from HSS Hire, or power the equipment from a mains
circuit with a built-in RCD.
If the lamps fail, return unit. Never try to repair yourself.
HSS Quad Pod Flood Light is fitted with a 110v plug that can
be plugged into a suitable generator or 110v power supply.
These light heads are dual voltage and can be supplied with
a 240V supply, contact HSS Hire for advice. Before each
use, inspect the state of the cables for unusual wear,
breaks, knots and folds.
Never use the HSS Quad Pod Flood Light until you have
fully read and understood this User Guide and the
equipment has been properly set up using the
information it contains.
Before using the equipment inspect its condition.
Inspect the state of the cable for unusual wear, breaks,
knots and folds. Inspect the upper and lower junctions of
the steel-cable regularly. The lower end of the cable at the
winch can be seen by unrolling the cable from the winch.
The upper end of the cable is visible if the topmast is
extended. All screws have to be tight and not damaged.
Check all visible screws and axles for their tightness.

STABILITY
Carefully follow all instructions to
maximise stability of this Quad Pod
when in use.
Use on firm level ground ONLY.
PREPARATION
Start preparing equipment by
placing it in the vertical position.
Ensure that the ground is strong
enough to support the stand. The
stability of the stand is of prime
importance for a secure
operation.
Pull the ring to unlock the leg-brace slider and lower the leg
from vertical into horizontal position.
Choose the closest of the 3 holes in the leg and release the
ring to lock the leg-brace slider to the leg. Ensure that the
pin locks safely into the leg hole.
Repeat above steps with the other 3 legs.
Use the leg-brace screw jacks to ensure the footplate
touches the ground.
Continue turning the screw jacks of each leg in sequence
until the load pad below the Mast slightly lifts off the
ground. And the mast is in a Vertical position.
When the Stand is securely positioned and vertical, check
again that the 4 pins on the leg-brace sliders are properly
locked into the holes in the leg. There should be no red
mark visible. Attach 4 security cables to the top-mast
collar if you are using the stand in excessively windy
situations or in an unstable environment.
